it's good. hard to follow the previous album, which is perfect.

Interesting, it would be easy to laugh at this, but i appreciate the nuanced emotional analysis and attention given. Imagine a new tik tok trend where teens all around the world start spacing out to autechre.

I feel like this album was designed to listen to while driving around a convertible at night time through a neon metropolis ... the wind in your hair.....

Only one listen so far. It's nice. Not as immediate as 'kisses' would make you think. More spaced out than the previous album.

oh I was just joking around on my end, everybody be cool.

You call this "weird"? "Weird' is kissing your father on the lips. This is quirky at best.

Is Aphex Twin's Recent Music Less Ambitious Than His Earlier Work?
gnarlybog replied to o00o's topic in Aphex Twin
I have a feeling that he has always just done what he wants, living in a very insular world. Perhaps it was the context of the culture and media landscape at the time that imposed the visionary label on him. You are never in control of the time you live in or what people say about you. I do understand the impulse to make such a thread though. Personally I do find the newer releases less 'surprising', but it is to be expected given that he is an established artist releasing music since the early 90s with a very distinct style (even if it does have a few branches such as ambient, acid, etc...). -
It's cool that this type of artist is fairly mainstream. However, I have not really jived with anything since the R + 7 and replica days, personally?

I just listened to "She Began To Cry Tears Of Blood Which Became Little Brick Houses When They Hit The Ground" after initially dismissing it and it really worked for me. Yeah it's same-y, but it's good. The right balance between challenging and enjoyable. I suspect he was going through some heavy stuff during this...

i actually like the tension between cryptic subdued artwork vs the hyper detailed maximalism of the sound. it would feel very predictable for them to lean into some bio-mechanical deviantart 3d render porn. It could date itself pretty quickly, too. Somehow Draft and Confield still look shit hot, with that said...

Besides the featured artists, who are your faves in the genre?

I see some social media posts of him hanging out in public places, so maybe he is just enjoying life after years of monk-like seclusion? I recall reading that he doesn't like releasing stuff, perhaps the pressure and marketing is a drag. Traditional synthesiser music was tip top. Side note: Years ago when I was walking in downtown Toronto blasting Venetian Snares on headphones, he walked past me. How often does that happen??

After a serious analytical listen I have to retract my previous statement a bit. At times the overt autechre worship feels like a bit of a buzzkill, even though i love ae. The last track feels like the standout where some unique personality shines through. I hope that's not too harsh. it's all extremely well crafted. I admit it did make me daydream a bit as to what kind of curveballs autechre are going to throw in the future, now that a few acts are starting to infringe on their later-era style.... They always feel ahead of the curve.

Interesting sound. The autechre influence is strong yet it feels different enough. Looking forward to spending some time with this with good headphones.

Are you totally happy with the Blackbox Life Recorder 21 f EP Release so far?

1st track is a major grower, not a shower. track 3 is really nice as well. Nice and punchy drums. -

The Burial track is disappointing imo. Sounds like someone playing around with his sample pack. ?- 60 replies

This is shaping up to be a special thing. The first single is very New Order-ish, no?

Rumours say he's trying to freehand draw a trapezoid this time. It's tricky... Jk, he's a legend. The typography on his releases are underrated too. Very nice attention to detail.
