Sunken Foal kicks a lot of ass. Thx to Ae for that discovery.

This is fascinating to me. I was on board, but like everyone, grow tired. Is it an act of egotism or silliness to release so much music in such a way?

Creep Show, John Grant - Yawning Abyss

I was about to make a thread for this because this is rocking my world at the moment. Has a little more oomph than Wrangler for me (who I also like). Just so strangely funky. Bizarre stuff. -
The Smile - A Light For Attracting Attention

Interesting, I believe this is the first thing Nigel Goodrich has not produced? As good as he is, I think its about time they shake things up in that department... Same goes for Radiohead imo. -
Excellent. the previous album was such a nice surprise.

This kicks a lot of ass. Need timestamps for every track asap so far.

this is going to be big

I feel lucky to have seen them multiple times through the reformation. I don't see how they can top that run from 2010-2016.

Ogre is getting the shit kicked out of him on this tour. Supposedly lost 4 teeth in a stunt gone wrong a few nights ago... but still managed to finish the set! Before that, he had to cancel a show or the first time in 40 years due to a virus. On a previous tour he was jumped and had his jaw broken. Wile E. Coyote stuff.

After releasing an IDM album earlier in the year to rapturous applause (a handful of plays on bandcamp), I decided to get a bit loose-y goose-y and have fun with more overt melodies and vocoders. ? Started as a joke, gradually mutated into a forgotten eastern european synth pop hit Electro-ish interpretation of Purple Haze by Jimi The Haptic Drifter - sci fi synth stuff Radio Junkie Super Soul - a bit of a krautrock thing I suppose

Here is a decently recorded show for those of us in Europe who may never get a chance to see them ; _ ; I saw them twice around 2011-2013 or so. They have a new sound guy on this tour so the live sound seems much better.

Actually, this rocks. GAIA 15 is ? I am dying to know this guys set up, and how much of this is automated. It's kind of a dream, taking the struggle out of the music making process, I imagine. If it was hard or super time intensive, he wouldn't be able to generate so much quality material.

Beautiful stuff. R.I.P. -
Oh man, it could fill a book. I tried to give it a shot, but it was turning into an essay... A wikipedia read is probably the best general run-through. It reminds me of Autechre in a way, because no matter how much I learn about the bands inner workings and methods, it still retains this unknowable and mysterious quality. Basically they first broke up in the mid 90s after a string of incredible albums, due to long-brewing tensions between members, an overdose and tragic death of a member Dwayne, and the record label meddling with what was a delicate collaboration. I believe around 7 years later they were offered a stupid amount of money to play the Doomsday festival in Germany, which then led to 4 more albums with a very different sound. Much more melodic and idm-influenced, while still being very experimental. They are in their 60s now and still don't get along, so this will be their final tour. Cevin has not ruled out future music though, but it would be torturous to wait for it.

The lyrics to Spasmolytic always give me goosebumps. So dark. Made the mistake of putting it on a mix cd for a friend in uni. I have learned that this is a love or hate band, haha. Never an in between. I have been a Patreon subscriber of Cevin Key's for a few years now. Every weekend he hosts an interview with other artists and friends. He has been annoyingly hush hush about skinny puppy for a while, but I think that may be due to a tour NDA which has been delayed since covid. Anyways, I recommend it!

Full band rehearsals started a few days ago, with some pics on social media! Believe it or not, Cevin has not seen Ogre since 2017 when they last toured... Imagine working on-and-off for 40 years with someone you don't really like... Bizarre, but I love them. Hope they do a European leg but who knows.

Good news: It's solid and nothing is super cringey. Vocals are strong and the arrangements seem more stripped down than I can ever recall? While the tempos can get a little slow, it does not have that sluggishness of some of the more recent albums. "Dont Say You Love Me" has stood out so far, as well as "Before We Drown"

Did not love the 1st single but the 2nd was hitting the spot. Cautiously optimistic ?

Good thread! I've always wondered why its so hard to mesh the two. The guitar often seems to kills the dynamics for some reason. It also has strong cultural connotations whereas I go to electronic music to do away with that. Portishead, Radiohead and Primal Scream could be strong contenders for being able to do is successfully, with electronic influences but more rooted in rock. --- (one of my favourite tunes ever)
