  1. My first job was on a factory that produces optical shit (like systems for fighter jets, rescue helicopters), it was a so called "defense plant" during Soviet times. I was just a clerk for contacting Ministries of Defence. So everyone of us was asked to suggest some type of innovation every month in a written form. I wrote abstract poetry of technical gibberish.

My father, who worked most of his life there, was requested to take courses in Scientology, because the guy who privatized the factory after the Soviet Union collapse went to America (Boston area, I think) and got seriously hooked on all the practices shown to him there. During my time, the guy installed cameras everywhere and had an observation room for himself (the head of security told me that, because he knew my father well). I was nevertheless sloppy in front of the camera and consistently late on the checkpoint, but never got serious talks about that in my 1,5 years there.

My other boss in a much smaller private enteprise was seriously into astrology or some shit, had a dedicated advisor who did mystikal checks on staff and sometimes interfered with logos and branding names. It was dropped when the amount of money lessened considerably.

there should be a term for this old dinosaurs of the industry like WV or Tom whose ears are probably just shot to complete shit in their advancing age and as a result their new music has totally wack mixing choices. Beethoven effect? Although I would say that Beethoven got better as he went deaf...

    The term is ageism

I think it's because Autechre simply doesn't qualify for the label "music" by most people's definition.

I used to dismiss that as a completely ignorant mentality, but I have kind of come around on that opinion. I love Ae as much as anyone, but their work resembles music in the way that Picasso's work resembles actual people. People who are used to, and expecting to see a classic semi-realistic painting of a person is going to be totally off-put by something like The Poet. As interesting a piece as it is, it resembles a person in the faintest sense of the term. About the only thing it has in common with a more classical portrait is that it is a bunch of paint on a canvas. There are vague hints of human-like features but you need to look to even see those.

Over the years I've realized that while my need for Autechre is rarely quenched by other music, my need for other music is rarely quenched by Autechre. They are separate mediums in a lot of ways. Autechre is where I go to for exploration, intrigue, novelty, and it benefits greatly from concentrated attentive listening.

On the flip side, if I just want to have something on in the background, or listen to something to cheer up or relax or whatnot, I'm much more likely to toss on something more conventional.

That's not a functioning analogy at all, "their work resembles music in the way that Picasso's work resembles actual people" sound absurd. Music is not a portrait of "actual" music in any way, it's a tautology.

The Picasso angle is overblown too (as is his name and art, it is the convention), classical painting did not have a goal of resembling photo, and there's no artistic achievement in going as far from it as possible. Picasso's pieces have much more in common with classical portrait than classical portrait have in common with realistic image of a person, Picasso is nothing more than a minor stylistic branch of the same principles.

This whole take of Autechre being madly unconventional is a strange one, they practically do fucked-up pop music, with direct borrowing of hip-hop, electro, techno et al.

No music qualifies for the label music in most people's view, because there's no such view (for example, one of the most popular genres trap is trash to most people). And there's no such debate in mainstream institutes -- Autechre had a SIGN album interview on the main page of New York Times and their tracks are played on BBC radioshows both for popular and academic music.

Why is Autechre not more popular? People are generally not interested in musical intricacies of any kind, let alone this particular kind. Look up the fooking charts, it would be an insult to be among that. If anything, Autechre is unusually popular and successful for their type of stuff.

lmao so Diplo is just a fucking rich idiot, right? i've heard his name but honestly not really registering in my mind who he even is

Yeah, he was just a generic beat maker, then became involved into producing schmop via M.I.A. and later was lauded as some sort of cutting edge leader by fashion maggots.

The Skrillex line is characteristic of their evaluation methods (big = inventor, Jimmy Hendrix bruh), unfortunately I've read similar praise from Mr. Oizo when he did a collab with Skrillex (a shitty track The End of the World), I guess it's part of bohemian worldview, once you get "in"

people act like im crazy for wanting to change the economic system to meet the needs of the biosphere and human population, then we got the actual bozos in power thinking they live in the year 2350 in star trek universe, as far as im concerned this dipshit needs to be sent to the nursing home

"space explorer" bitch rode his dick rocket into space with a cowboy hat, this nerd needs to be bullied into a depression

Nobody acts like you crazy, you intellectualise the most conformist current view (reddit consensus). The truth is billionaires ride that discourse to their interests (Amazon, Google et al sponsor AOC), it's socialism minus economics for the masses, and separate conditions for the minority elite. Most of the so called communists are/were part of the elite beginning from Marx & the French, and now they just attack the real working class (which is racist, fascist, non-conscious etc.) for petty issues that suit the elite's interests.

  7. That's nice poetic touches, a bit oversensitive to the usual demonic imagery, but I enjoyed it.

but ofc, you tell them that the obscure title schtick is a jedi mind trick to help you focus on the music by minimising foregone linkages based on traditionally decipherable song titles ^^

Also they had at least two different approaches: pre-Quaristice with constructed titles that can sometimes be interpreted like a puzzle (ends with Sublimit), and post-Untilted with seemingly internal working titles (begins with Altibzz).

  9. I support Ajax deeply, because I like their principles of play & growing players, as well as historical influence (Michels, Cruijff, van Gaal, van Basten, Bergkamp, Seedorf etc)

Qatar 2022 is a monument of FIFA corruption, everything's wrong about that tournament, and since they plan to do World Cups every two years, it could be the symbolical gravestone too

maybe you invited the demons in thru masturbation?

This is the truth bomb. I bet if drill had a caring woman up for a drill at least occasionally, the situation might be a hella of a lot different. And that's of no fault of his own (if he's ghey, the narrative is bit more complicated but not drastically at the roots).

You laugh at boomer Christians, yet it's satanic liberal order that created the schizoparanoid situation with only pharma solutions.

your posts are as much of an eyesore as caze's lol

I've been here regularly for 14 years at least, I know my shit and your reviews, don't know caze tho (bullied him out already no?), so maybe i'm not sufficiently self-reflective. Have nothing against your posts or anybody's for that matter, chill out my bass (alco-free, aint it a cool line bruh)

Not hating on 5 minute rule by Dialectic by the way, it's memorable, but it's really just super-basic fade ins and fade outs -- nothing to praise in itself, probably cut ups from live sessions. Not loops as in repeat the same, yet anti-structural more so than Maurizio or Chain Reaction minimal jams were. I bet he/they decided on it out of not bothering how to organize it

  12. Thanks for the upload, but regarding AOTY... Disagree, he's doing the same bunch of stiffly stitched together similar bursts for years now. All those neatly simplistic graphs and dispensable descriptions won't save it, as they've become part and parcel of trademark nerdotronic pack, typically deutschsprachig as is Florian.

Chimerization was the last intriguing one for me, that was wild

  13. It is a paradox, and I could agree with general suggestion of combining two practices, but me personally -- I am disgusted by Spotify and the like, I hate (what became of) Youtube, I would immediately stop using Youtube videos for sharing stuff here when Bandcamp alternative is available. The numbers game (views, listens, likes etc) in deciding what matters is especially retarded since they are faceless.

Bandcamp is growing larger in terms of back catalogue and it is as close to a perfect mainstream platform as it ever was in digital era, so I feel like the solution is investing all attention/consumption there against all competitors (when there's no better direct-from-artist option).

I do not stream though, I just occasionally listen to music and do not care about musician's fates.

These guys deserve more respect than any current "free world" political leader, aside maybe from North Korean guy since he got the position by inheritance and not a lot is known about his politics. But I suspect the funny series ends with them, the bloody dictators (one of which gave up his power like a pussy despite the popular support). The humour in this is very low-level.

    And AFX cover is beautiful.
