Hey watmm, Hope everyone's good So I launched my new music project under Soda Wish, (some of you may remember my vaporwave project Donovan Hikaru which was sort of born on this forum in the vaporwave sub) Anyway, kicking my new venture off (2nd trk) with an original rework of soulstress Teri Tobin's 2015 neosoul song Love Happens. Doesn't really fit into pure house / nu disco but doesnt really fit into dancepop / edm either, somewhere in between maybe? Much more to come, exploring many sounds with this alias. Thanks! LV
  2. Hey everyone, long time! Some of you may remember me from my Donovan Hikaru project I launched here back in the day.... I'm launching my new music project under "Soda Wish" exploring a range of sounds. This debut one just to get the feet wet, is a Collab between my buddy Dante LoPresti (who wrote it / on vox) and myself producing. By no means IDM or anywhere near it (the closest it comes is the little arpeggiated flute synth in the hook lmao)... However, we are soon releasing a version of this that is kinda cyberpunk / acidic / synthwavey. So will share that too much more to come, super stoked to share with everyone! Thanks! -LV

Also wanna say, in an excited way, it feels with this one, that's he's abandoned the "I can do this" / "hold my beer" type thing and left the modulars and synth flexing behind for a bit more in favor of music, melody, groove and atmosphere.. Also brings back the feel of some of the chill tracks from Come to Daddy EP. Id happily pay for this record.
  5. Wow wow wow. So far, this is my favorite Aphex release since Drukqs. Hands down. I hear remnants of SAW II with the floaty springy pads and stuff. I actually find this pretty uplifting, even though some have said it's sad/reflective. One thing for sure, there feels to be more expressive emotion here than in any of his recent work, and a focus on simple composition. With the chill easy going vibes, not overproduced, it also conjures the playful and genuine spirit of SAW 85-92 for me. It's not acid obsessed, nor shiny nor hyper immersive, it's just nice. The ambient version is just pure serenity. This is exactly what I needed and missed from him. Hoping the other tracks follow a similar vibe. I feel like every time he puts out something new, it gives meaning to the era we find ourselves in. Thankful for this.

After all these years, still dreaming of him putting out a 3 x LP collection of ... -Melodies From Mars official release (remastered from archive) -Melodies From Mars reconstruction (original compositions re produced with his modern sounds) -Melodies From Mars Pt. 2 (whatever he wants!) How much fun would that be. Imagine the artwork too, everything that exists plus new interpretations and new takes on a hidden treasure lost classic. ?
  7. Lmao... Yeah... And I heard he's actually shopping his work to this new division of Warner Music that's catered toward development deals to upcoming pop stars... So the current theory is that he removed Cheetah as its lofi vibe didn't sit well with the label's head boss's tastes. Update: also great news, supposedly several of the A&R reps were involved with some VIP event for Jason Derulo, sound supervising on Pixar Cars 2 and some publishing stuff with singer stars from Disney High School Musical series, and Richard thinks he may have a shot (as do I!) at getting a few songwriting credits with these A&R guys next projects. Fingers crossed. 2023 baby!!!

  9. Well said, love this. I'm pretty sick of my LinkedIn feed which is now just flooded with people parading, championing and cheering on AI no matter where it is going. I used to be more excited about it and soft AI is one thing, but learning more recently about where things are all headed makes me realize how fucked we are. And it's all capitalism's fault. No turning back now.
  10. I don't about about you all but I'm pretty annoyed that the US and Canadian government is still not telling us anything. Why do I have a feeling it will just fizzle away and then maybe 2 years later, a report will come out that will say "so remember those things in the sky in 2023? A report was released that they may not be of this earth, but we can't be suuuure".

  13. Stoked to check this out, but also curious why SAW 1 would be chosen out of all other Aphex, though I'm not complaining. I just never really think of SAW I as an aurally challenging or immersive sounding lp to begin with, as it's so minimal. Its charm and absolute beauty lies in it's melodic simplicity, icy soft textures, hypnotic pulses and analog warmth and to be honest I almost could enjoy those aspects on a shitty mono speaker as much as I can on a high end system. That said, I could see why such a beloved album could want to be expanded even further sonically, so I'm happy it's being done. Out of his work though, I'd love to hear Atmos releases of Drukqs, Syro, Collapse, Come to Daddy. Imagine that omg. Imagine sitting in room with a full on Atmos system hearing proper RDJ approved Atmos mixes of Drukqs or Syro. It would be a fucking a religious experience!

  15. Anyone check out The Tuss popup shop in Hollywood this week? Very stylish... Done by the architectural design team of Cheesecake Factory and people from Sharper Image. I was able to score some branded back scratchers and a grilling apron!
  16. What's the purest way to listen to SAW II? I have the 1972 repress and the CD, but heard that reissue was recorded from the CD, not adat/source. Is the original brown vinyl recorded from adat? I would think CD is the ideal format due to cleanest/ low noise but if I ideally had an audiophile turntable setup, the best pressing of it might have a nice warmth and depth over the CD... And dcom, yeah I agree. I've been waiting for a good deal on the OG pressing but haven't found one. Lucky I was even able to score the 1972 repress before that one shot up like crazy too!

  19. Yeah man agreed. Aside from existing Aphex, I've just been listening to orbital, 808 state, 90s Bowie, sisters of mercy and the lost boys soundtrack over and over, which is all great but gets a little old.

  24. Thanks prdct, and so well said on that medium/msg quote. It's an absurd state we've gotten to. I left out a few more contributors that might be just as big as the rest imo: -artists that want a big following or even just enough of one to be able to survive on their music have to follow certain sort of algorithm-enslaving protocols and to be social media influencers as an entire full time job. This leaves little time for actual music creation and process. Which also leads to and helps perpetuate this other contributor... -said artists / producers that want to break are swayed into the allure of ever-evolving templates and tutorials to "make that xyz sound" but at the same time endless plugins, presets... flavors and options to tweak unil perfectly satisfied. "Follow these best practice production templates to make bangers the right way" but hey also... watch these shootout reviews and demos to decide what you like best... play with these digital tools to sculpt out your perfected product to a tee, exactly to your vision. Where this leaves the artist is a state somewhere between misguided hyper ambition and OCD option paralysis. ... Many who choose the easy path of 123 chords here, click here, loop this vocal wav (or emulate with real voice) from the pack and repeat are usually the same people who are good at charisma, stage performance, persistence, building following, BSing it, telling a story, and therefore that's what gets out there, esp. if it benefits entire industries built out of encouriging the template approach. The music itself? Just auxiliary to the "content" they are producing for their fans. Sad reality.
