  1. Was gonna more or less post this. Not sure if this would help with achieving the mindset you describe but one thing I occasionally struggle with is that I generally feel it's easiest for me to get some creative work done during hours when I'm certain I won't be disturbed and I feel the time is entirely mine to do with as I wish without feeling guilty about procrastinating on something else. This has always meant losing a lot of sleep but then I started to realize I could also wake up early and use that time. Although admittedly I've only dabbled in this as I've been stuck in a go to bed around 3 and wake at 8 routine again for over a year. But hypothetical me goes to bed around 22, wakes up around 5 to meditate and pursuit creative endeavors and then leaves for work around 9. It's amazing, thoroughly hypothetically recommended. In theory. And also, yeah, make sure you have your stuff all set up and configured and then just sit down with it for a bit, I think often the pressure you can feel when you make yourself sit down with the intent to "make music" can be enough to start loathing it and it becomes a chore in and of itself. Keep the goal initially just to spend some time with your gear every day or every other day and perhaps you start falling into a new routine.
  2. That's a very apt description. And although I've no experience with the UC4 it must be said that Faderfox makes really, incredibly solid controllers. I've been using the FX3 for +5 years and bought a 2nd hand DX2 a couple of years ago. The DX2 was covered in a layer of muck when I got it, think it had seen some heavy shit go down during some parties or something. Had to take it apart entirely and clean it, it's been functioning without so much as a skipped value. Also I've contacted Mathias twice with some questions that could've been easily ignored but he replied pretty much instantly and above and beyond what one might expect giving support and info on long discontinued/oop devices.
  3. There's also this: https://electra.one/ Makes me wonder though with the increasing amount of devices that use some sort of web interface for firmware upgrades, uploading samples or general configuration, what happens, when of these companies goes bust or the internet disappears? No more config til you reverse engineer the entire thing?
  4. I've been editing my last post and this one over and over. I'm incapable of properly expressing what I'm trying to say and when I read back what I wrote I keep thinking I sound like some sort of troll or conspiracytheorist apologist so I'll just have to accept that this topic is too complex for me to participate in in any constructive way. Just can't help but trying to throw my lame views into the mix every now and then. Just one thing wrt to your last remark; I understand and I have made that argument as well in discussions with friends but I think it's not as strong as it used to be because of how huge some tech companies have become. In the Netherlands (where I live) for example the intertwining of government and privately owned tech companies is increasing rapidly and because of some proposed developments wrt further digitization and centralization of a lot of public and financial services this will increase quite a bit over the coming decades. Not trying to imply any malice or anything here but it does make me nervous for a variety of reasons, which admittedly can probably be mostly traced back to my general sense of dread and fears/insecurities about the future.
  5. I'm not saying censorship is being carried out, but it seems to me that requesting information or content is removed from any platform is calling for censorship. Don't get me wrong, it irks me when people start crying about being censored while they clearly aren't and that seems to happen constantly. But demanding, from a certain position of power/influence, that something is removed because you find it objectionable and trying to sort of wield that power by saying that there will be some sort of consequence if what you object to isn't taken down rubs me the wrong way. Would've felt slightly different about it if Neil Young would've left spotify and then announced why he did so. I'm also an idiot so I'm probably missing something obvious that would make this line of reasoning collapse instantly. Just to add; I am aware that people spreading misinformation can be dangerous but I think often the actual impact that these people have or could have is overstated and it invites people to see the world in even more of an Us v Them kind of way.
  6. Leftism was a huge part of the soundtrack to my life between when I was about 12-19. Saw 'em live a couple of years ago in a club, was alright but I could not believe they didn't use the "drugs in canada" vocal sample when they played space shanty. Kind of lost all interest in them because of that.
  7. almost irllol at all the twitterers tweeting their approval at spotify for supporting free speech and being #american and not realizing that their decision is most likely based on the 300 million dollar contract that's involved. Gotta say though that even though Ek's an asshole and Joe Rogan a fool I'm glad that money was able to be a force for good once... seems really short-sighted to support censorship, it sets a dangerous precedent and drives the poor souls who've let themselves be hypnotized further into the clutches of populists and solipsistic demagogues. imho
  8. Which IC would that be? Maybe I can help, it's somewhat unlikely but who knows.
  9. I enjoyed the episode of his podcast where he had Stephen Fry as a guest.
  10. They look like they're CGI's imho. It's past midnight and I'm eating some macarons for dinner because I just got home from work and all the shops were already closed and I can't really afford to get anything delivered and I can't be arsed making any effort beyond opening the fridge and a box. Was gonna post this in the FWS thread but since it's a bit of FWP and FWS decided to take this beauty of a post to the YPT&O. Hope everybody's well.
  11. I just checked but it persists across all themes except WATMM Classic. And it only happens on threads where Guest is appended prepended to the thread creator's username.
  12. I'm a WATMM After Dark kinda dude.
  13. What's up with those clusters of text every couple of threads or so? Delayed Collapse EP promo? Autechre Alcest collab imminence?
  14. I’ve become really bad at replying to WhatsApp messages and I feel terrible about it which then makes it probably even more unlikely I’ll muster up the whatever the fuck I’m lacking to be able to respond to a short written message in a appropriately timely fashion, so that I can feel a little bit worse about it the next day. I feel like I’ve been depleted of energy, which is total bullshit, and everything/everyone is slipping through my fingers, which is true to a certain extent, and there’s nothing I can do about it, which is bullshit because it’s not that difficult to maintain a small number of low-key social contacts. But I just can’t anymore. What the fuck.
  15. I'll be laughing when everyone's dumped their VST2 plugins for VST3. You can hear the difference on any good pair of professional monitors. VST2 has warmth, depth and presence. VST3 is cold and lifeless.

Great start to the new year. Thanks!
  17. Heh. I remember seeing him live some 20 years ago, and as a stupid teenager I handed him a note with "Pullover?" written on it. He laughed and tossed it away. Still think it's a bit of a tune tbh, but I think Jochem kind of, understandably, distanced himself from the tune. Cool to see it's part of the collection nevertheless.
  18. Someone posted something about people that have neurotic tendencies/are prone to worrying will always find something to worry about. As a born and bred neurotic I can confirm the legitimacy of that statement. So much time wasted and even ruined by worrying about anything and everything. Stupid fucking brain.
  19. Lots of interesting stuff in this thread, I'm unable to eloquently translate my ideas so as to make them a valuable contribution but here's a youtube video that's not actually really related to the original topic but since Rubin brought up polyrhythms... Essentially saying rhythm = frequencies = pitch, but there's nuances and it doesn't totally hold up as the guy himself explains towards the end. Still a great watch, I had to struggle through the initial ted talk vibe a bit though.
  20. Took a nice long shower, tidied up the kitchen a bit and went shopping. Return from store and I'm putting some stuff in the fridge. Last to go in are some cans of beer, the cardboard that they are in manifests a structural weakness and some cans fall on the floor. Of course one of them explodes and starts spraying fucking beer everywhere. My face is sticky, my floor is still sticky after several rounds of wiping and the soles of my shoes are sticky. This is the 6th or 7th goddamn can of beer that has exploded on me this year. I stopped buying Guinness for several months because I had 3 cans that started spraying after being slightly scratched or something while in my backpack and I noticed that the walls of the cans had become thinner, it seems they are back to normal now but now Heineken has decided to skimp on the packaging. Fucking fuckers.
  21. Is someone also watching you? What I'm asking is, would anyone notice if you were wolfing out? Another fun game might be to see how much any student would be willing to pay for a bathroom break. If you get into trouble just tell them you're from the sociology department.
  22. Haha. Very funny. If you'd know that the chair slightly pokes your back, there's a psu making a weird whining noise and there's a funny smell sometimes you'd realize what an absolutely ridiculous proposition you're making. Also I'm not wearing the right shoes right now, so...
  23. Redid everything at least twice since I last posted, I think. One of the things I’m most happy with is that I finally slapped together a stand that allows the 19” rack to stand on its rear. Cut a hole in the top for slightly easier access and cable routing, and can also access everything when I slide under the table on my back. Not sure yet if the large-ish Yamaha mixer will stay, and would love to move all drum things (including out of shot tr8) to where the mixers and patchbay are but can’t figure out an ergonomic way to do it and I’m kinda sick of reorganising now. Hoping to mod the bx8 with individual outs somewhere in the coming months. Over the last year I’ve only sold stuff, the mixer I already had, and for some reason have been totally gas free for ages (having no money helps, I guess) and I’ve been pretty content with the setup. There’s only a few things I’d like to add now and then I think I’ll be done for basically forever.
