A “full” bag of crisps in the US, wtf

    IMG_6950.jpeg

Supposedly there are two reasons they're packaged this way:
    1. The other half of the bag gets filled with nitrogen gas, which prevents the contents from crumbling during shipping/transit.
    2. Said nitrogen gas displaces air, which makes them stale with prolonged exposure.

  2. I'm too embarrassed to say how many hours I've put into the System Shock remake. I'm pleased with it overall, but it does have a tendency to get monotonous, particularly later in the game. And yeah, it does have a pretty dumb ending, especially that song that plays right before the credits roll.

I guess the main replay value I've found with it is changing up the Hacker's weapons loadout. The Laser Rapier, Magnum 2100, & Skorpion SMG are my keepers every time. Shotty is good for mid-game and AR is decent for late game, but kind of mediocre overall. Hell, you could probably smite most baddies with just the not-Lightsaber and loads of Berserk patches, depending on your preferred strategy.

  3. It's already been a month since I've seen Pt 2. I don't think I have much to add that hasn't already been said. But it definitely felt like things were heating up at this point in the Dune saga.

I particularly liked the opening scene where the Harkonnen troops were patrolling the sands of Arrakis and they were getting picked off by Fremen snipers, followed by Chani taking out one of their thopters with Paul's assistance. And the fate of Vlad Harkonnen right after the arrival of the Emperor...I don't wanna spoil it outright, but I found it darkly amusing.

Still gotta read the 650+ page Dune book I got for my birthday last year. I probably wouldn't have gotten the interest I have in it now, were it not for Denis Villeneuve.

  4. ADACA on Zone Patrol rn. Campaign already completed. Pretty impressive overall for a one-person studio - definitely recommend to fans of Half-Life and S.T.A.L.K.E.R..

Bought Dead Space 2 recently on sale for dirt cheap but haven't played yet. Only played the remake of the first game, which is still good.

Although generally not into zombie games, Dying Light seems appealing lately. Might buy when it goes on sale.

System Shock remake gets a patch update next week, with main focus on revamped final stage, plus option to play as female Hacker.

Also still waiting for Fallout: London to drop on the 23rd.

  5. This is more or less a soft announcement. Not worth starting a thread over I think. Anyway, I've been contemplating this for at least the past week or so, but...pretty sure this is going to be my last post, at least for a while.

That is to say, I plan to start an indefinite internet hermitage/sabbatical tomorrow. No FB, no YT, no Reddit, no X...not even WATMM. Nothing that involves public online interaction of any kind. It's reached the point where today's internet mainstream is becoming mentally untenable for me. And I need to withdraw just to clear my mind.

So it's down to basics - email, online banking & shopping, and news. And probably the occasional food recipe hunting. But that's it. That'll be the extent of my internet usage for the foreseeable future.

May the Dank Memes continue...with or without me. But I shall return one day.

I remember asking richard devine before the game's initial release if there'd be any autechre in the soundtrack.. he said no, maybe in the next one  wouldve been nice.. flying car mod+autechre is such a good fit for night city. i want an ae radio station for starfield too, exploring planets to quaristice, hell yea

I haven't gotten far enough into Starfield yet to find out if you can visit binary star systems (like in No Man's Sky), but if so, Paralel Suns would be perfect..

Leviathan fucked me up, but I somehow got through it after 20 tries and now am cruising along Dead Space. I like how in this version ammo scarcity forces you to learn how to use every weapon, and there is a learning curve. What I haven't really tried to learn is any of their secondary firing modes though.

TBH I never bothered much with secondary attack modes, as I never really found them useful. Except for maybe the Ripper.

  8. After getting thru all the 2022 sets, London B is the standout one for me. Especially the final 10 minutes or so...slightly reminiscent of Weissensee but much more...mature. I hope their next LP/EP/whatever includes a track derived from this particular bit.

18 hours in and it just grows and grows. People are insanely harsh on it, probably due to expectations and Bethesda are partly to blame with the hype machine. Everybody seems obsessed with what it's not.

Sure enough there's flaws, most NPC's are plastic scenery and similar stuff you don't really want in a modern title, space dungeon crawling and endless variations of "go to X, talk to Y and do Z" without deeper hard-RPG elements or continuous space travel. Prominent characters look pretty good (for a Bethesda game) but it's sorta hit/miss depending on lighting conditions. But the variety of environments, crafting & skill progression, lots of weird little tangents to get sucked into ("let me hold off whatever I was doing and go check this out") more than make up for all that. Urban areas aren't massive sprawling cities but they're well detailed, and the sound design helps sell everything from a seedy kebab joint below ground to a space station orbiting Mars. Trying stuff out in the ship builder and then walking around your massively overweight ride before flooring it into a different star system is incredible.

The Nasa-punk aesthetic is geeky & fresh, no grim-dark BS, even the weapons look fun & inventive, the score is absolutely terrific peak Goldsmith. Most of all I love the sense of exploring what's around the corner, and there's so much of that in every direction, even if there's a bit of old school fast travel & cutscenes. A two second faux-loading screen makes people go apeshit? People are spoiled as hell nowadays... I also haven't encountered any bugs beyond some NPC's facing the wrong direction in a conversation.

The poor PC optimization (and Xbox too I guess since it's capped at 30 FPS) is a big drawback, so we're probably looking at a lot of patching and modding before people take more kindly to it.

The persistent ship decoration mini-game is one of my favorite pastimes.

Yeah overall I'm hooked. Granted it feels like it takes shortcuts when it comes to space travel, but that's coming from years of me playing No Man's Sky. But it's overwhelming how much there is to explore.

As for all the hate it's getting, seems like it's mostly coming from the usual suspects - salty gamers who've likely never held a full-time job or had to pay their own bills, and/or 4chan schizos. Most them likely have never touched the game.

interesting to me these starfield ingame trailers look kind of boring and generic but I am open to be surprised. I am always a bit cautious if the sandbox is too large.

From what I hear it's about what fans of previous BGS titles (i.e. TES & Fallout) would expect - pretty much the same combat style, as well as exploration & loot mechanics. But supposedly fast-travelling between planets involves cutscenes, unlike the seamless entry & exit of planetary atmospheres from No Man's Sky. Supposedly inventory management can be a pain, too. But if we enjoyed FO4, then we should also enjoy Starfield.

That's about all I know though. I guess I could have upgraded to premium edition for early access or whatever, but I don't think it's worth the extra money when we could just wait literally a couple of more days til official launch. Besides, I'm nearing the end of my current Fallout: New Vegas run.

  11. FL Studio...my primary music tool for the past two decades.

So far I'm liking v21 and some of the newer plugins, like Sawer, Sakura, Toxic Biohazard, and Harmor. But I can't help but feel a sense of loss from the fact that WASP and WASP XT are no longer available.

Even after all this time, I don't think I'll ever fully master this DAW. But I will say that Piano Roll makes sequencing an absolute breeze.
