the Persistence of Vision thread is archived so i'll just put this here:

i was watching some movies today and came across this source for "Camera Eyes" at 13:30

This original track has been my "white whale" for quite some time after someone identified it on Reddit a while back. Finally located a decent rip of it. It's ripped from cassette so not perfect but better than nothing.

It has no business slapping as hard as it does, please mention if you're interested

here are some Lush Library Pads for us. this selection is mostly Without Beats.

i fucking love this one. the brushed percussion creates this beautiful sense of motion, like wind blowing through tall grass. the bass is utterly wild and groovy. the synths splash around like starlight. and the pads just Melt you into Milkiness:

gorgeous, pensive tune. like a labyrinth of sweet memories hidden within a millisecond of thought:

Looove this one. I hunted this down a few years back through one of my favorite hip hop tracks of all time

    *bows* and you, fellow shinobi.

I seent all the endings thanks to doing a pretty complete run through and 'reloading' saves. I've been doing the gauntlets, Inner Genichiro I whupped on first try but Inner Isshin beat my ass many times before I got the hang of him. even now his liberal use of weapon arts and overall aggression makes the fights unpredictable, I have maybe a 50% chance of beating him in a given fight.

other than that I'm doing NG+ to mop up some items/achievements. I think this has been my favourite From game so far. DS3 just edges it out in the atmosphere department but in every other regard Sekiro is the best From experience I've had yet. haven't played Elden Ring, will probably give it a go in a few months cos there are other things queued.

Excellent work, shinobi! Sounds like you mastered the game better than I did. I'm pretty confident I could still beat most of the bosses quickly, but I have no confidence in my skills on Owl Father or either of the Isshin fights. Half skill/half luck, I never got to the point where it was muscle memory.

Regardless, a true accomplisment, it's a tough game.

I'm biased as it was my first From game, but Elden Ring was my favorite of the bunch. It's such a cool world and I've sunk over 500 hours into it across two playthroughs. Anxiously awaiting the DLC!

Interested to hear what you think when you give it a try.

It's not actually the difficulty that bothers me so much as the complexity of it all. Which stats to focus on? How do these map to weapons you can use? What is a good weapon? Where to get things you need? Which monsters can you skip? Where to go next?

I am but a simple man. I'd like to be told what to do.

Also, when you manage to fight your way through Stormveil castle and all the stuff in Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula only to be killed with two hits by the f-in *guards* of the magic academy thing: that is just too much. At level 40 I expect to be thrashed by bosses, not their f-ing minions.

Honestly I think Sekiro is gonna be a way rougher time for you if you are struggling with Elden Ring. You don't have to worry about weapons or stats but it still does not hold your hand at all and is quite complex. It's also a LOT tougher in my opinion. Elden Ring you can always level up or change builds and come back, Sekiro is git gud or go home.

By all means give it a shot but I'm not sure you will find what you're looking for. Elden Ring is in my opinion the most accessible From Soft game, you just have to get over the initial learning curve. Or not! Play what makes you happy

button-mashing + Sekiro = bad times. being able to time deflects is essential, and the effectiveness of dodging is drastically reduced compared to DS/ER. basically you have to face fights head-on at all times and the more confident/aggressive you are the better you will do. learning deflects is a little more generous than it might seem, meaning it's learnable with practice, but if you're more inclined towards typical From gameplay where you can get around obstacles through leveling up stats, you might have a hard time adapting to Sekiro initially. the only stats to level up in it are health and damage, and upgrades for those are generally locked behind bosses and mini-bosses.

however, there's no reason for you to get stuck in Elden Ring. From games are deliberately vague in terms of how to progress through the story (Sekiro is no exception btw). I would suggest if you're getting lost in Elden Ring to watch this guide alongside. I personally have used FightinCowboy's guides quite a bit for DS1/2/3 and now Sekiro. he's easily the best Souls-etc youtuber in that his guides are comprehensive and he's a grownup and not an annoying twat. only gaming youtuber I've ever subscribed to. I find that following his videos as I'm playing the game adds a certain enjoyment, like having a friend in your living room playing the game with you.

Also a FightinCowboy fan! A chill dude who makes super comprehensive and entertaining walkthroughs and strategy guides, super rare these days. I tried to play through the From catalog as blind as possible on my first go through, but I used his guides quite a bit for bosses and NG+ cleanup.

just beat Owl Father and I can see what people mean. toughest fight in the game so far.

one strat I've found that helps consistently with most bosses - maybe the human ones anyway, not including for example the Guardian Ape who just spazzes out constantly - is to just be up in their face constantly and clashing swords at close range. it means having to learn attack-attack-deflect-deflect timings in a tight window, but once you get it, it makes fights more manageable because then you can dictate the pace to some extent and prevent them from using special attacks, which always make things more dangerous and unpredictable. of course there are moves built into each boss to break the close contact each time but I've found if I can close the distance quickly, it keeps the pressure up and whittles their posture down more easily.

I got the bad/shura ending out of the way first so I've also beaten Emma and Isshin. but I'm guessing that Isshin isn't as hard as the later Sword Saint Isshin fight? idk

Nice work! Owl Father is no easy feat. I beat the game in 2 weeks so I kinda sped through it but really struggled on him and it seems insurmountable at first. Isshin Sword Saint is def the tougher of the two but I struggled a lot with both, so if you can take down one you can beat the other.

And yes staying in bosses' faces is for sure the key, cautious aggression is rewarded in this game. I struggled so much with both Isshin's that I ended up baiting out attacks that had safer counter windows. Still mad tough though. Amazing game but I'm not sure I'll ever revisit it.

Genichiro is the best skill check I've ever seen in a videogame. When I defeated him most other bosses or minibosses got a lot easier. I actually stopped playing it for months before I beat him and years later the mechanics are still burnt into my nerve endings. Now Isshin however. Fuck that.

I agree, I was trying to brute force my way through the game before Genichiro but he really teaches you the mechanics to make it through the rest of the game.

Isshin and Owl Father drove me to the brink of madness though.

couple of hours into Sekiro. it's kicking my ass but when you get it right, it's so satisfying. the clang of steel haunts my dreams.

Godspeed my friend. It's a really cool game but lord is it challenging. Definitely gained some gray hairs on bosses like Owl Father and Isshin.

When it clicks you feel like a total badass though. When you hit Genichiro, he's basically a test for if you're ready for the rest of the game. He teaches you how to actually play the game correctly.

    Keep us posted!

i see lots of good decisions being made / reported on this page and it fills me with glee.

50 cents on from-difficulty-discussion: elden ring is among their easiest titles with spirit ashes and the hardest without. and yes, it's very uneven in the latter case.

Very true, since it was my first one I unashamedly used mimic tear, I'm sure it would be way harder without spirit ashes.

Elden Ring is the first FromSoft game I've beaten. Being able to level up helps a ton. In Bloodborne I couldn't even beat the first bridge boss. In Sekiro, I couldn't beat the boss on the horse fairly early on. And the dynamic of doing the whole level over again after getting killed in two hits by a boss was so annoying. I did love the stealth in Sekiro, but doing the same stealth on attempt #15 got old quickly. I still found the storytelling of Elden Ring quite poor and the boss battles uneven in difficulty. But overall it was fun. I doubt I'll dip into the DLC (already sold the game to get that sweet Gamestop credit for when Zelda comes out). Debating on whether to give the Demon's Souls remake a try as I'm not sure how many of the quality of life improvements from Elden Ring it has.

Sekiro is definitely the hardest. Sword Saint Isshin at the end of the game took me over 6 hours of continuous attempts before I narrowly squeaked by. Awesome game but I have no desire to ever revisit it.

Elden Ring and the Demon's Souls Remake are the easiest. Demon's Souls is a much simpler game mechanically overall but they did a great job with the remake, it looks and plays great. It's by no means easy but most of the bosses are pushovers. The real challenge are the levels, as there are no bonfires/sites of grace. So if you die on a boss you have to start from all the way at the beginning of the level again. Luckily there are shortcuts but levels like 5-2 are just a pain in the ass no matter how you slice it.

I'm so pumped for this. I took a 15 year break from video games but picked up a PS5 during the pandemic to avoid losing my mind living alone in a new city.

Had never played a Soulsborne game before but picked up Elden Ring after recommendations from friends and ended up absolutely loving it. I loved it so much that over the past year I went back and platinumed/100% all of them. DS1-3, Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, the whole shebang. It was incredibly frustrating at times but also a sense of wonder and pride I've rarely experienced in gaming. The freedom of how to build your character, where to go, and not having your hand held was so refreshing. And some of the best bosses in history. Now I too take deep dives into the lore like Vaati's videos.

I'm hooked and can't wait to dive back into the world of Elden Ring, it's already one of my favorites ever and the DLCs tend to be top tier.

^^ Nice, never heard or even knew about this one until you just mentioned it there:

The gated vocals that start at around 1:20 really remind me of something but I can't quite place what.

Cant believe I know exactly what I think you're talking about but...

One of my favorites trance tunes from my high school days.

This might be the original source?
