the guilty - this kind of thing is becoming a genre i guess, very similar to tom hardy's locke but with higher stakes. some of the tropey scandinavian gritty crime thriller stuff seeps in and its psychological moves seem a bit mechanical, but nevertheless it's very well acted, tight and engrossing.

yes, i like his films too. interesting director. he really knows to convey the feel of the situation from the pov of the lead characters, and in general, very well. i think that's his specialty basically, there are a lot of mumbly, loosely scripted indie films dealing with the same late 20's-30's people and their problems, but he knows how to gets into the real guts of the experiences, to pinpoint small cues and details (probably in the editing) that help make it feel very real.

RMAA generates the needed signals into a wav file that you play on whatever device you want to test. then it shows you many things, like THD, IMD, SNR, frequency response and so on. the thing is that if you see good numbers in the final results it means that both your dac+headphone amp and adc are good. alesis io looks like it has good thd and snr specs for its inputs, so it's probably fine for such purposes. another thing to consider is that you might need to run such tests with some kind of headphones as a load in parallel, that'l give you a clear idea of how the device performs irl with headphones.

you take into account the whole device and just measure its audio performance. compare the input to the converted and amplified output and see if any kind of audible garbage crawls in. you can basically do it at home with programs such as RMAA if you have a decent recording device.
dunno about class d amps in portables. they're usually used when you need a lot of power and efficiency, in active subwoofers for example. but with headphones, and especially with earbuds/iems, you need just a few milliwatts to get them loud.

eugene may i ask u how come u know so much about audio fidelity? I remember the other thread where u discussed with what's his face about night and day so i wondered... I'm not taking the piss I'm on you're side i despise audiophiles....both are "transparent", meaning they sound better than human hearing. so no auidble difference between them.
Btw what do u mean they sound better than human hearing? Don't u mean they're good enough so that human hearing can't tell the difference? Cause u know human hearing doesn't 'sound', human hearing 'listens'... Hehe
yeah, that's what i meant. all devices produce distortion and noise and whatever during the process of coversion or amplification, but if they do it at a low enough level you shouldn't care as it will be inaudible.

went to a dental hygienist yesterday for the first time in like 15 years, a fucking nightmare that lasted about 20 minutes. horrible gum pain, blood and saliva splashing everywhere and spilling onto the neck all while ktpa1 and 2 from smojphace ep are being blasted into your eyeballs with that drill. the hygienist was a brutal russian lady with no concept of human rights whatsoever, i was in tears from the pain but she was completely unphazed, didn't even stop and ask if im doing ok. a true professional.

I’m not hearing enough praise for Burning in this thread.
thought it's another one of those over the top korean crime thrillers with stupid twists that you like. turns out it's a pretty good polanski-feeling mystery that is fueled by contemporary social issues and youth's modern despair rather than mystery for its own sake/entertainment. solid stuff.

i enjoyed the favourite quite a bit. the tug of war at the core of the film isn't too original or interesting, and isn't too deep due to its semi-farcial nature (though it does get deeper towards the end when things slow down and colman's performance helps it a lot), but everything around it kinda makes up for it. the no fucks given treatment of the whole 18th century court biz, the pacing and the editing, the camera, the acting, the production, the lols and so on. all very very tightly and neatly put together while still retaining some of that dogtooth spirit with its ultra cynical wit that sets it very far apart from other attempts to deal with similar setting and subject.

i had 4 pretty unbelievable micro-dreams tonight to which i called bullshit relatively easily from within my semi-conscious dream state.
in the first dream i was on a vacation at some mountainous resort with my childhood friend. we got in a fight with a couple of dudes and murdered them. my friend fled the area but i was captured by the authorities and was awaiting investigation and trial that would ruin my life for good. then the whole scenario seemed really unbelievable to me as i don't really communicate with that friend anymore and i'm not really a violent person who would murder anyone. so i realized that it was just a bad dream, woke up, and fell asleep again shortly after.
in the second dream i was carefully inspecting the state of my teeth. from the front everything looked decent. but within that dream i could also inspect my teeth from the back as if i my vision was in my own mouth. from the back one of my premolars looked really bad, blackened and all rotten. but within a dream i remembered that i inspected my teeth just recently and saw nothing of the kind so i called bullshit on that dream, woke up, and fell asleep again.
in the third dream a different childhood friend was standing on a table and telling me about some new vegan diet that he's trying out which name starts with an aph-. his t-shirt was tucked into his pants just like his dad was forcing him to do in his early teens in order to look more respectable, and the kids at school would always laugh at him for that. thinking about that friend from within the dream i realized that he would never engage in some vegan diet, he was both very culturally russian and very logical, so that new new agey liberal diet thing is something he would never engage in. so i knew that dream was bullshit too, woke up, and fell asleep once again.
in the last dream i was on a vacation in italy, but the only thing that occupied my mind during the vacation was the question whether italian cafes are vegan friendly and whether i would look like an ignorant idiot asking if they have vegan stuff because i assumed that their culinary culture is very non-vegan. but then within a dream it hit me that irl i don't really have any money for travel to italy so i realized that this dream was bullshit as well and woke up for good.

no it wasn't.Russian Doll was very good. Might watch it again later in the week, which is a first for me for any Netflix original.
- the main character is amusing only for the first 15 minutes tops, after that her shtick is tiresome.
- all of the dialogues feel like people reading jokes and one liners from a teleprompter.
- the humor is very safe and limited, very cosily liberal, very netflixian. that is despite being an r rated show.
- despite being pretty short it feels overly repetitive, trudging in the same place.
- the main point the whole series leads to is help each other.

the decision to show the girl's brutalized, severed head was really quite out of this world deranged given the context that was created in that (brilliant) preceding sequence. it was absolutely horrifying, insane and kinda trollish/hilarious at the same time. i think i already said that but the the film just didn't come together thematically, it devolved into a reasonably well made compilation of horror scenes from the second half and on.

actually thought it's some new sci fi tv series judging by the title and the alien looking character on the poster, so i acquired it pretty quickly without going into details. turns out it's some bullshit about africa and how black people know better. when the girl above came into the picture with her absolutely abhorrent acting, dialogue and weird as fuck physical appearance it became a total unwatchable cringefest.

serious monitor manufacturers will actually provide measurements of their own (neumann for example). for non monitor "audiophile" speakers there are websites such as stereophile (though do ignore the subjective verbal diarrhea part that often contradicts their own measurements), audioholics, soundstagenetwork (the most reliable due to them having access to anechoic chamber).

widows was really bad, and very disappointing too considering his previous 12 years a slave. it's severely over-scripted and overloaded so that nothing resembles anything relatable and realistic. it seems like it was designed to address and to tick every hot button, contemporary issue in current discourse and to link all of them into some kind of a wholesome statement about the state of things, and all of that under the genre of a heist film that's supposed to provide entertainment as well. even on paper that just couldn't succeed. predictably it all ends up shallow, full of bad telegraphy dialogue and nonexistent characterization besides some tags (for example, a pretty white girl who was abused by a now dead husband and had a shitty mother, and she can shoot well.). the heist elements are basic and uninspired with all kinds of lame twists. really feels like the shit netflix manufactures all the time with the help of its ai that probably crawls the web to analyze what people are talking about to later put those issues in the scripts, and then it was shoved into the most banal heist stricture. completely devoid of any artistry.

yes, suspiria is uninspired, messy and totally unengaging mucking about for 2 hours just to reach a sole decent climatic sequence.

saw a cat fucking a dead cat yesterday. and he was really into it too because he didn't even react to my attempt to shoo him away. still bummed about this scene today. luckily neither were those that i feed.

dragged across concrete - lol. a remarkable display of not giving a fuck and just doing something you love, and with great confidence too. less tight than brawl in cell block 99, but also less superficial. there are some interesting layers this time and not just meatheadery (as enjoyable as it was).
