  1. escape at dannemora ep1 - good cinematography (so good that the line between cinema and tv is even more irrelevant) and acting, but this genre is plain banal at this point, the writing is poor and characterizations (really shows with del torro's character) are shallow.
  2. the last kingdom is still great with its 3rd season. from the viking battle brutality and meatheadery to the interplay of court intrigue, politics and religion, all very well done and well written, the dialogues especially have a certain rhythm to them so that they never bore. production and score are very solid, the world looks and feels true, even if pretty small scale. the acting is kinda over the place though, from the great alfred the king to that new girl that plays the seer who's just godawful. so basically if you were into got in its early seasons before it went to shit and don't need its pomp, this should be on your radar. not to say it's a got wannabe though, it really does have its own thing when it comes to the general mood of the whole series, it's a bit campy, pulpy, witty, simple and down to earth at the same time, good stuff.
  3. bodyguard - the biggest british embarrassment since brexit.
  4. ok, i really like it now by the mid of season 2, just hope it doesn't become a slog with those later long seasons. it's easy, witty (and actually even more than that), often poignant, inventive, homely and just fun. i like how you can just turn it on and off whenever, it's not like those new shows that you have to binge for 8 hours straight and then hate yourself later for doing that. the 90's shouty overacting can be annoying at times, but otherwise it's just what i need. i really like the choice of photo at the end of each episode when the credits roll, unassuming and very casual slice of some thing that was going on, like some random found photo on the internet, but it transmits that specific mood of the show very well:
  5. flol. i know there's a fucking upvoted comment on youtube saying the same, but: "it's a falcon, richard". fuck, lol.
  6. patriot s02 went completely off the rails ridiculous, and i think it's better that way. it feels much freer to fuck around with its characters in all kinds of absurd ways and doesn't feel needlessly emotionally heavy handed as before. it's still kinda moody, the charachters are ultimately people, but everything else is just completely absurd, farcical and very often hilarious (the investigation tactics of luxemburg male detective team are just flol).
  7. what's the deal with governors, how do deeply blue vermont, n.h and mass get republican governors, and by pretty big margin too? do they not matter in the grand scheme of things?
  8. a great day for bi-gender indie-rock-musulman helicopter pilot proto-latinx A.I.'s on weed
  9. yeah, he's trying a bit too hard with the directorial quirks even with the situation doesn't really warrant it, but generally it's a fun watch.
  10. homecoming is nice. like a less retarded and less all over the place mr. robot.
  11. first man - watched it in the cinema, i always help ryan gosling financially, last time with blade runner 2049 and now with this one. the film's ok, technically impressive (the camera work and the cinematography), understated and reserved (besides the action sequences which are pretty intense, and the sound which was way over the top but kinda cool), backed up by a pretty stupid score, and overall kinda boring and forgettable. only went to see it because i hoped damien cheezle will somehow subvert this artistically hopeless biopic genre, but besides de-dramatziing and de-glamorizing a significant event it's pretty much on-rails biopic with very familiar and dull moves and turns.
  12. i have a hard time consuming media made more than a decade ago, but this looks lovely. will check.
  13. the kindergarten teacher (u.s. remake) - very nice. comparing it to the original - the core is intact, the script is engaging intellectually (that is if you're interested in topics such as artistry and its adoration, talent, its cultivation, pretense and so on) and its trademark feel that is kinda creepy, kinda cringey, unsettling and tense all at the same time is there. but the original's annoying euro-art-fag mannerisms are subdued, it's generally softer and more approachable, there's actually a soundtrack and some nice cinematography, and gyllenhaal is a stronger actress that can carry such a complex role much better. although some interesting elements are cut off. it's simpler, but more focused and emotionally more potent due to those changes.
