Yeah, first Elektron. Really want to take my time and understand all the options, I'm not in a big rush to start composing. Presets get a lot of shit, but I'm really appreciating having half decent ideas already there so I can concentrate on understanding the thing, without having to create it at the same time. Everything is being delivered tomorrow, then I'm going back to England for 2 weeks. Gonna be the longest two weeks! Just need to order a few extra bits like the patchbay etc. Give me a month and you'll see it in all its glory.

There's a store here in Germany that have dropped the price by €300 and now it's €1019, but I had to go to another store to get finance so had to pay the "normal" price.

Ha, maaaaybe :) . I'd practically made up my mind anyway, but that gave it a nice extra nudge. Then again, the recent non-love for the Big Sky almost made me doubt myself, but I managed to ignore it.

What the fuck. Yes i agee, peace. Have needs more ins, he should have bougth roland studio capture not octa capture. Damn! Why exactly? The Studio Capture is €320 more expensive, and 8 tracks is more than enough given a) I only have 3 things generating actual sound at any one time meaning a total of 6ins b) I will also buy a small rack splitter/mixer which can sum upto 6 inputs down into 1 output c) if I do really want to multitrack my Vermona I can simply use the studios at work and d) my work flow is designed to limit myself in areas, forcing me to hard record so I'm not consistently tweaking.

I just had a bit of a splooge and bought: Analog Four Minilogue Strymon Big Sky Waldorf 2-Pole Roland Octa-Capture I still need a couple of small things like a patchbay and whatnot but then I'm pretty close to my ideal setup to go with my Vermona and Red Panda Particle. Aside from the Minilogue it should be a setup that I can take live as well as use in a studio environment, without too much fuss. Just got to wait for everything to be delivered now. Thankfully I'm going on holiday next week for 10 days so when I come back everything should be waiting for me

I've got a Pulse 2, and I wouldn't ever recommend it for its polyphony. I personally like what it can do in polyphonic mode, but it's range of sounds in that mode is very weak. As a mono synth for techno, sure, maybe so. Analog polyphonic for techno? Elektron Analog Four? Mopho x4 and Deepmind would probably be good choices as well but I've only heard those via Youtube and such. As for the Prophet 08 module, everything I've heard from the Prophet series could be great for techno. Also the Rytm is great and yes everyone has one now but half the people who use them are idiots and the other half barely release music so I don't think the sound is ubiquitous, yet. The A4 was also a consideration but I'm not sure if I like how much menu-diving could be involved, albeit that's just from what YouTube videos I've seen, and to be fair I did like the results nonetheless. Any owners/users here? The actual functionality, especially with the sequencer is what makes me think it could be worth putting up with.

Interesting, never heard this before. Just from looking at a few youtube vids I can definitely hear what you mean, sounds like it has a lot of potential, especially when it comes to sound design-y type sounds. Great recommendation, cheers.

Figured this should be the right thread. I have between €1200-€1500 ($1300 - $1600 / £1000 - £1300). I could potentially buy a few smaller units (of which I'm pretty much already decided on) for the setup I've wanted for a while. Or I could take that I buy a belter of a synth, as I'm not likely to have this much money all in one go for a little while. I want/need analog polyphony. A keyboard would be useful but not necessary. I mainly make noisey techno in the vein of Shifted and Abdulla Rashim, so I want dark chords/pad (thus the polyphony) as well as dirty ass low end. What might be in that price range - either brand new or potentially second hand. I know there's the DSI Mopho X4 and the Prophet 08 Module. I know the Behringer DeepMind12 has been discussed in another thread too. I'd lusted after an Elektron Rytm for ages, but I've gone off them a bit since everyone uses them these days. Suggestions?

Might as well ask this here. I'd like to buy some FX units, and preferably pedals for a variety of reasons. I'm really interested in the Red Panda Particle, but I'm wondering what else might be out there from the world of 'real' instruments that might transfer well into the world of synths/drum machines, or even just fucking cool units that would be good. I just really like textures to add some depth to a track. Same with the hi hat channel, if you turn the decay up enough and trigger often enough you basically just get a constant noise tone which is a nice starting point for fuckery. Hopefully I can finish mixing a couple of ideas this weekend.

Yeah that's the Verona DRM MkIII. It's pretty fucking great. The kick channel especially. Cuts through so much and lots of low end. Well they are all great to be honest, very versatile. One thing I'm starting to do is layer up the drum 1/2 or multi channel, record one pass, pan etc, then run it back with the same rhythm, pan opposite direction and vary the sound, record that, then do that a few times, group all the takes and run an effect on the bus, put the Ableton LFO on the pan on each channel too and you get some nice results. But it's fucking brilliant.
