  1. Which last one and where did you find it lacking? I don't know how either ringer or everything ecstatic could be considered a misstep Nothing wrong with Ringer, I was referring to Everything Ecstatic. I'm a Four Tet fan, I would put Pause on a par with some of the best work of BoC or afx or ae. In fact when the first EPs were released in '98 it sounded as otherworldly as MHTRTC did. But I think I remember Kieron saying at the time, that EE was recorded very quickly, and that's what it sounded like. Not spontaneous, just a bit more time needed and some serious editing. I'm sure I also remember him saying that he'd borrowed a drum machine from Hot Chip for the album, maybe it was a joke riffing on the The Elliott School thing. Or maybe EE can be seen in the context of him finding his feet with new working methods/different sound. I don't think Four Tet get's enough kudos. The first few albums were produced in a way that's very identifiably a contemporary 'computer music' method, and he started doing it back in the 90's as a teenager. The vast majority of bedroom producers at the time were still essentially using a conventional studio type set up, with maybe a pc either sequencing or at a push mutlitracking. He understood that the pc was now a big sampler there to manipulate digital audio. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Jul03/articles/fourtet.asp
  2. Yes this is excellent, a return to form after the last one. The vinyl is also a decent pressing, plus mp3s. The XX album has just been repressed also. I mention this only as it is obligatory to refer to the XX, Hot Chip or Burial when talking about Four Tet, even though they sound nothing like each other.
  3. what a fucking cunt thing to say. you are really getting fleeced, man. wow. rephlex exists just to fucking put their hand in YOUR pocket. maybe Warner Brothers or Sony will come along and right all those wrongs. : I think the complaint is that potentially people have already bought some of these tracks twice (analord plus chosen lords) and are now being asked to purchase them again to get access to the unreleased stuff. Nearly £40 is a bit much for a handful of unreleased tracks in a digital download format.

  5. That looks like a bottle of Laphroaig.
  6. I had an old Cowon iAudio M3, which I liked a lot. But the build quality was questionable. Went through 3 docking stations/connectors and 3 remotes in just over 2 years.

  8. Well, I tried. I tried to bring unity to watmm. I tried hyperbole, vitriol, sarcasm and spit. I tried humour. Logic and reason. Appeals to honesty and decency. But Joyrex, Man of Steel, stands firm. The fight goes on. But like all rotten systems, it will collapse from the inside. And it grows more rotten by the day.
  9. As the cat's out of the bag, I'll explain. Clicking on an LTM members 'stats' page shows the their postcount in the 'secret forum'. These postcounts obviosuly increase over time. I was also warned that posting any list of members would be a breach of the privacy rule. If this list didn't exist, how could I be breaking any rule? I also have other proof, but I won't be sharing that. Since we're past the 'does it exist?' stage, and the members have now had their 'anonymity' removed, it may be an idea for the mods/Joyrex to post a considered response. Anyway, I'll stop gaying up my own thread and disappear again.
  10. Well, that's the nouveau riche/LTM for you. Luton Timber Merchants? good idea It's ok, I forgive you LUDD. And Plum. Whether history will is an entirely different matter. I think aziaziazi may have the best post/content ratio on watmm.
  11. I've pm'd aziaziazi, but he only has one post on the forum... Well, that's the nouveau riche/LTM for you.
  12. Some of the furniture in my home is older than your country. Ikea isn't an option. By cost-effective I don't mean cheap, simply that bespoke furniture can be incredibly expensive. The difference in cost between commisioning something and building it yourself is probably roughly the same cost as the tools. And if I have enough time to post on watmm, I have enough time to build stuff out of wood. When I was 8 years old I went on holiday to corfu. We had the most secluded and beautiful sandy beach, the surrounding area was completely undeveloped at that time. I spent every day, from 7 in the morning until 6 at night, building a sandcastle. By the end of the holiday it must've been 50'*50' in area, and was closer to Venice than the product of a castellated bucket. On the last day some American kids came along and trashed the lot. I didn't care, it was the happiest holiday of my life. You will either get this story or you won't.
  13. This is the final proof, if any were needed, that Yegg is indeed female. Women have children, the ultimate act of creation. Men on the other hand must compensate through diy. Or starting wars. Or making secret subforums. With that attitude you may as well say, why make IDMs, just go to the shop and buy some aphex. And then there'd be no EKT forum, and we'd all be very much poorer for it, wouldn't we?
  14. I think if I treat it as a labour of love and take my time. But on the other hand I don't want to waste my time building a desk tidy first and then 'progressing', I reckon your uncle has the right idea. Did you just launch yourself into it, or did you do some kind of joinery/carpentry course first? It's about 8 foot tall. Maybe if we ask nicely/nonce up the right person we'll be allowed our own secret carpentry subforum where we could host photos of our handiwork and amateurish mistakes. We could call it the warped/reflexed subforum.
  15. That wasn't very constructive. lol? More Ettore Sottsass. Somebody ps some Analords on it.
  16. I have a feeling this may turn out to be the least successful watmm thread of all time. I need a bookshelf, and ideally also some way to store about 200 pieces of vinyl. So having looked and found no elegant or cost effective solutions, I've come to the conclusion I should build my own. I can put up some shelves, but beyong this my experience is limited. But I've also been thinking that I don't want to build some awful boxy stacking units and that I should get totally out of my depth and attempt something electonic music like a recreation of an Ettore Sottsass. Any carpenters on here? Anybody tried building their own furniture? Anybody know of any useful web resources? Also, women love this shit, and I think we should set up a watmm furniture building club. And I don't want to make this thread into an issue of fucking wallpaper magazine, but feel free to post pictures of furniture you like. The more electronic music the better.
  17. http://www.speakingincode.com/ I'm waiting for this to actually get a release.
  18. I don't think anyone is saying forget about the Orb, nor that the Orb aren't a footnote in the history of 'house' music. They were pioneers of an ambient genre that contained elements and motifs borrowed from house music. They were pretty much the band the term 'chillout' was originally coined for. But the original poster seemed to be asking for recommendations within the idea of house music as 'club' music.
  19. It's really a subjective thing. You may not think it is but others might so it's not really up to you to call the shots. Person A: Hi, can you recommend me some grunge? Person B: Coldplay. A: Is that really grunge? B: It's a subjective thing innit. A: You're a prick. IDM house? Matthew Herbert probably comes closest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMHO_Lbxvl0 Edit: Not really house, just my favourite track off secondhand sounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdnkaI0eAMA
  20. They're nice enough, it was more 'cheap shoes from Topman betraying your West Virginia roots'. I nearly bought these at the weekend, then I realised I'm far too old for them.
