Anyone else having issues building the download zip? Tried a few times and not working yet for me.

Yeah bitroast was having troubles earlier. Keep trying, it'll eventually work!

  2. lol fucking hell

I mean, I'm genuinely sorry if he's autistic or something (I mean this sincerely) and interpreted my posts the wrong way.. but shit, some of the stuff he said really made it easy to joke about.

It's definitely an obvious nod to "Sean pls", which is cute and all, but a bit too corny and obvious for them don't you think?

It wouldn't be the first time they've referenced a WATMM meme..

So any news on the green one yet?

Nah, they changed their minds. Rob and Sean got sick of Wurstwasser complaining in the back seat, so Sean said, "That's it! I'm turnin' this car around!!". No holiday down south in the greens for us. Thanks a lot Wursty. Always ruining it for the rest of us.

  5. I don't get that you don't get M4 Lema. The comments? Sound like Blah, blah, blah, snore. Not necessarily bad, but if you don't like it who cares. But there's not much for me. Opinions are boring. An intro sleeping pill.

May be just me. I'm more that positive review type of guy. Or the review development in Alcofribas. The kind of stuff which I probably expect from WATMM.

  6. It's buggy and a lot of features are incomplete/missing. It is v0.1 though. Oliver said on Twitter that the plan is to have it be more capable than nanoloop2.

Also he's going through the backers in sequential order, rather than going by country. I was backer #96, and the package was sent on the 27th of September.

There are actually limits to what a DAW can do, though.  I don't think you can have a sequencer rhythm that's manipulated by an envelope follower coming from a different track, or if you can then it's probably extremely weird and difficult.  In something like Max it's simple and easy and you can go far beyond that without any restriction.  It's also very difficult to make tracks that use unconventional tonalities like non-octaviating scales in Ableton Live.

Using Ableton as an example is a bit strange, especially since Max for Live is a thing.

    (also : Metaz form8 is Piezo 2.0)

Yeah, it brings back memories of listening to Piezo on acid, super beautiful.

But imagine someone new coming out with something like M4 Lema as an opening track to their debut album?!? I would be EXTREMELY impressed.

Right? I'd be thinking, "man these guys really nail the Ae-sthetic"

if this had been someone else's album

If this had been someone else's album, I still would have lost my shit over Metaz form8, at the very least.

  9. Most Ae songs are 4/4 and repetitive though?!

A DAW is only as limited as you are. And I'd say Ae are pretty good at getting whatever the fuck they want out of pretty much anything these days; I don't think anything forces them to be more "traditional". Maphive6.1 is a good example of that—they used a very pattern-based sequencer (PMA5) to make one of their most proggy tracks.

I like how they can create an at best mediocre album. WATMM will use trillions of brain cycles and words to declare its greatness.

A confirmation bias thing. I find myself thinking "why could it be awesome?". "They are Ae. It must be awesome". Quite unfair, if they were unknown artists, many of us would have moved on.

Thanks for saying this, I've now realised I'm a total piece of shit for enjoying this album

  11. Do you like The Brothers? I've been a big Autechre fan ever since the release of their 2001 album, Confield. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too ambient, too up-front. It was on Confield where Sean Booth's presence became more apparent. I think SIGN was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe.

Listen to the brilliant Max/MSP patching of Booth and Brown. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of sampling craftsmanship, the sheer generativeness, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the reverb in Metaz form8. In this song, Sean Booth addresses the problems of abusive political authority.

M4 Lema is the most moving IDM song of the 2020s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their synthesised drum hits are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole.

Sean Booth's album with Mika Vainio and Kouhei Matsunaga, 3. Telepathics Meh In-Sect Connection, seems to be less commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like Mika And Kouhei And Sean. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Sean works best within the confines of Autechre, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.

This is Kouhei And Sean, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
