What normally triggers your anxiety? What patterns of behaviour start when you become anxious? (sorry if I've missed a post earlier in the thread that explained this, I don't have time to read it all right now) Check out as much of Maria Bamford's comedy, interviews etc. as you can btw, she might help you (she won't hurt you anyway) :)

What is the deal with the songs on the radio and on the speakers in various clothing stores today? Here is how they go: There is a brief thematic introduction in the beginning, usually some, by now, horribly cliched trance build up that I have heard since, as you say, the early 90's, followed by the course which typically consists of extremely TONIC-focused singing/talking/rapping, (tonic as in pretty much every vocal note is on the 1 of the scale, for those who don't know), and the lyrics are typically variations of, "back that up, do it do it, look so good, lets get through it, dance all night, bring it closer, that's alright, lets get closer." Then comes a bridge, and this is literally how every song in that category goes, "let's move our bodies tonight, this night will last forever, come on and hold me tight, this night's not ending, never..." The course is typically some meaningless phrase that potentially millions of people view as close-to-the-heart axioms of their generation, maybe, "Light up the night like a firefly, turn up the music til we touch the sky," which is accompanied by those syncopated trance stabs. Have you heard of The Manual by the KLF - they wrote a book basically explaining how they intentionally got number one singles - they say it wouldn't work now, but the techniques are all still in place. You should watch the documentary it's really interesting. I love some of the stuff they do now too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The17

Actually yeah I think you guys are right about the colours, I did put quite a bit of thought into them Go for it Spiral =) will send an enlarged version of the original bitmap if you like? (to make sure there's no JPEG artifacts) the only thing would be finding an online printer that does that bleach in style printing - a big plastic rectangle would make it a bad t-shirt btw have read this whole thread and there's some excellent stuff - gonna take forever but want to read all of the original thread

Everything is somehow outside his control, he doesn't even see that he is unable to assert himself or cope with what faces him, but he unconsciously senses it, and it traumatizes him

I think it's basically about someone being terrified by what he is trying to ignore - that this image of life - wife, kids, family, contentment - has some element of stupid compulsion to it - and he is unable to fulfil his role as a husband, as a father, as an adult

It's like a nightmare - it's a projection of anxiety, about love and sex and birth and marriage. It's in a sort of dream world. It's less about making a point and more about connecting with that unconscious realm. The monster baby is just the projection of the central characters fear that he wont love the baby and wont be able to care for it. There's more to the film than that though. The song - in heaven, everything is fine - note the specifically benign word - when I have songs in my dreams, they always have these kind of lyrics. There's something so strange about that to me - in heaven, everything is fine. This kind of vapid contentment, this empty wisdom, attracting him to this woman who you can tell is a projection of his desire by the overly conspicuous cheeks (mock sweetnees), seeking oblivion (his head blows off). It's the compulsion to stupid satisfaction - a safe, peaceful life.

What's wrong with liking something when you're intoxicated and not liking it when you're not? As long as you're really enjoying it, it's fine - and if you're not, don't listen to it? IDM doesn't quite hang together as a category for me - I don't see a universal connecting philosophy in it - except maybe having fun? It's not quite like metal where you're trying to make something with a certain kind of effect or something like house which has certain parameters - what's called IDM is really a mixture of many different kinds of music, it's only that it's electronic and maybe a bit clever or different to other electronic music somehow that ties it all together. It's a pretty loose grouping. To think that you'd been wasting your time with the music suggests that you must have expected something more from it - what exactly? Unless this is just a troll thread?
