  1. Man, FS were pants. They couldn't program a drum machine worth beans, and all they did is discard the futuristic side of Human League or Kraftwerk and play up the fashion aspect which incidentally was what originally destroyed synthpop. That said, there was a more positive side to them than the usual indie fare: for example covering Wire's The 15th was a good move, so maybe it's OK that FS existed. I definitely listened to them a lot when they were new. God, the drums on Emerge are completely whack. I don't know, when I think of that particular time in music I can only think of the opposition between Dopplereffekt and Miss Kittin. Dopplereffekt is no-nonsense and has a lot of conceptual integrity, while Miss Kittin is all about style and virtually all formal aspects of her tracks are arbitrary (you could change the instruments, the arrangements, everything, because the point is just to have something that's provocative, danceable and sexy, which is fun but I don't need music for that.)

  4. My cat survived liver failure after having stopped eating for a couple of days (her skin had turned all yellow!) but we had to take a lot of care of her, force-feed her, etc. I hope your buddy is ok!
  5. Tomorrow's Harvest is slightly cheesy but it grew on me. The concept was disappointing and the campaign bordered on the grotesque but the album is still solid. I have to say, though, that the weakness of the concept negatively affects any interpretation of their previous albums. I thought they were serious about memory, about how what appears as background noise is a part of the reproduction of the world as it is, and about how the presence in an artistic work of the possibilities of another time makes said work have a powerful impact, but in the end I wonder whether their techniques aren't contrived and cosmetic. They've also turned techno anonymity into teasing celebrity tactics, which is disgusting. Anyway, Palace Posy and Jacquard Causeway are great tracks. No way they're worse than a piece of insurance commercial fodder like Dayvan Cowboy.

  10. Some really good stuff on this page! @ spiral: the Shenmue OST is brilliant, but make sure to listen to the FREE tracks and the in-game music, the official OST was just cutscene sap!
  11. I read somewhere Uli has extreme OCD. Can you imagine the pain inside his brain as he thinks "I have to say 'this particular day', I have to thoroughly describe this pizza, I have to say 'I have to put the pizza on the back, not on the front as usual', I have to measure the pizza is really 30 inch, I have to label this experience as 'level 30'"...

  14. Turned out I was being a numpty and you don't need any motion controls at all for this game - not even a sensor bar, since the Wiimotes pair via Bluetooth... Nice game, but I don't think it (or Smash Bros.) will save Nintendo at this point. The thing is what will save Nintendo? WiiU has got Pikmin, Mario, Mario Kart and now Smash Bros. I think a couple more big name games should be enough to make buying one worthwhile. Anyway, I hope Nintendo doesn't go down, because the 3DS is almost the only place where I recognise the gaming I grew up with. I don't picture myself ever getting an XBOX, which is funny because the original XBOX picked up on the Dreamcast's legacy at first, but sadly gaming ended up following a different path... tbh this generation is pants, nintendo, sony and microsoft alike
  15. I was disappointed with the conceptual side of it, but the album itself grew on me. Jacquard Causeway and Palace Posy are awesome. Actually I have barely listened to it since it came out, I'm going to play it now.
  16. There's a Michel Gondry short that's basically this, a girl who's very unhappy until she becomes a chair and is picked up by some musician who sits on her. Lol.
  17. If you're curious, I reckon this is where they took the cover pictures from. [/useless information] Didn't know about any of this, there's some really good stuff on that bandcamp!
  18. Yep, him and a few 'friends' is all he's said about who else may be involved My theory is Dopplereffekt themselves had a hand. Basically it's what it sounds like: early Dopplereffekt songs with Dave Monolith synths. Plus someone posted that the guy who took the cover pictures has a connection with Gerald Donald, but maybe they were joking. I really hope it wasn't a one-off and more Photodementia is eventually released... I've been a bit obsessed with Fig04c lately. ps. i'm digging that beatwife track too!
