There was a thread like this a while back which had some good recommendations, although it might have been lost in the last WATMM overhaul. So in that case:
Pale Saints
Kitchens of Distinction
Lush
A.R. Kane
Not sure if they were ever called 'shoegaze' at the time but I suppose they could fit in with a lot of that stuff.
Also, why does noone ever mention the first Slowdive album?
So Tonight That I Might See-- Mazzy Star
This album came out when i was like five. My dad would play it to put me to sleep. Blue Light and Mary of Silence are my oldest musical memories, actually. This album never fails in calming me down.
Thanks, you just made me feel ancient.

From Jon Brooks' Cafe Kaput:
Exciting news. This has been a long time in the pipeline, but I am very pleased to announce today that Cafe Kaput is branching out and starting a record label. It will be run exclusively from the blog and you can keep up-to-date with all the activities by checking in here.
It will be a digital download label, with world-wide distribution through all the usual iTunes, Amazon and BandCamp music stores. There will be no CD's, but BandCamp will be providing formats such as FLAC and WAV if you like you prefer them to mp3.
The art direction is being conducted by Ian Hodgson, who I believe to be one of the most talented graphic artists in the UK. You may already know of Ian through his music and artwork as Moon Wiring Club and his label, Gecophonic.
Cafe Kaput will not affect any of my work with Ghost Box, as The Advisory Circle or otherwise. This venture fulfils a different purpose; ostensibly to focus on some of my other projects which may not quite 'fit' on another label.
I hope you'll all support Cafe Kaput and enjoy the music. Contact details for the label are in my profile.
The first release will be on September 6th. Check in regularly for details.
Very interesting, looking forward to seeing what this brings.
EDIT: Also, the podcasts are available here.

Cheers George The latest av suits you, in much the same way as LUDD became as one in my mind with Richard Whiteley.

As a more aged WATMMer, I can vouch that Adidas are definitely rocking some of the good shit like they did back in the day. See what you think of some of these.
Incidentally, size? is now the best store in the world, ever.
Lol, I like your parody there.
I don't understand what's happening between us.
Ohhhhh, George will ensure that eventually, you will.

I was a chubby kid, too fat to get off with girls and too anonymous and not fat enough to be bullied. Towards the end of school I had some of the coolest trainers though (Nike Omega, Adidas Munchen, I mourn their passing to this day). Plus Lyle and Scott and Pringle lambswools and a few choice Ben Shermans and Farahs (thanks to my bro's and sisters, my Mam and Dad were always skint). Actually, in my last few years I was pretty fucking cool thinking about it. Also the only kid in my year and the whole school ever to wear a Joy Division t-shirt during PE.

Last of four pint-sized cans of Stella. Wrong, I know.

I've got 1 to 5 of the podcasts. I'll be happy to upload them whenever I get the chance, just can't say when it'll be (I usually takes ages) as I've got loads on at the minute. Bear with me and I'll do my best not to take too long.
You sir, are my hero!
No problem, my friend. I have uploaded them here, but it seems that the file's showing as temporarily unavailable. Hopefully just a matter of the server sorting itself out, but if it carries on I'll try and up them again (it's a 200+ mb zip, btw).
Incidentally, I'd normally PM the link, but as these were free downloads in the first place I wouldn't have thought Joyrex would have a problem with me linking in this post.
EDIT: Link seems like it'll work now.
Thanks so much! I shall grab these when I get home today.
You're more than welcome, enjoy (which I know you will).

New Moon Wiring mix as pointed out by Jim on the blog:
Elementary Ice Cream Sunstroke Mix
I love that he usually includes tracklists for his mixes.
Same here, I've found some great stuff through his mixes.

the new collab 7"s here.
A quick bump as I only just remembered these are supposed to be out tomorrow. Anyone any idea if the downloads are included?
Also, some sexy new t-shirts from the newly opened Belbury Village Shop. Wish I had a few groats to pick one of them up.
-
TV On The Radio, 'Young Liars'.
-
I usually find the visual fuck-up the worst part, pixellated vision and, yeah, that mockup to an extent. Once that subsides, the head pain is an absolute bastard but bearable in that at least I'm eventually able to read again.
-
Lone, 'Proper Vivid'.
-
This sort of shit actually freaks me out quite a bit. I'm not doing a ouija board in a million fucking years.
-
The Ghost Box site has now been redesigned, much better now. Also samples of the new collab 7"s here.
-
Ital Tek, 'Giga'. It's ace.
-
Pre-ordered the two new Ae 12"s if that counts.
-
Ry Cooders theme for Southern Comfort and one of my favorite stoner tunes of all time.
And The Wickerman ost!
Not seen Southern Comfort in years, but I do remember the soundtrack being great. And how could anyone omit The Wicker Man (like I did)?

Cafe Kaput is back, and there will be a 6th podcast.

Ghost Box news:

Mind How You Go Revised Edition is out now on CD
I'll probably buy it, despite having the original 3"CD and the Vinyl revised edition. Damn you, Ghost Box.
Same here. Cant have any gaps in the physical back catalogue (apart from bloody Farmer's Angle).

I love some of the original music for Apocalypse Now, especially this:

Agreed, noone's putting a gun to your head. I've paid what might seem over the odds for loads of records in the past, but it's how important they are to you (I mean generally, not just you osc) and owning them that's important. And I also agree that the price for this album seems perfectly reasonable, I've found that if there's one music vendor that won't rip you off it's Skam.
'Syn Emergence' is a case in point there.
