I was really happy to see you give a shoutout to SoundEdit 16 a couple times and hear a couple tracks you've used it in -- what do you use now for similar editing purposes?

I'd ask for a recommendation for editing software, but I'm not necessarily interested in the "best" -- just something with a similar feel that doesn't require going back to OS9. SE16 was my favorite software years ago and I'm thinking of resurrecting an old OS9-era powerbook so that I can use it again.. I've never been happy with Audacity or other newer editors considered to be similar. Any recommendations?

usually i use digital performer but if its something really simple like trimming starts and ends i'll use wave editor

interesting, so you guys are still pretty die-hard about DP (digital performer)? I tried it a few times and never quite got into it but I know a few producers (one: bloodysnowman) who swears by it.

What specifically about digital Performer especially in the context of AE's music sets it apart from other serious daws like Logic, Cubase or Protools ?

they all have hard grids, i mean that u have to get around consciously. but DP was the first for us to have no safety net as such. or a net thats superfine res, that u can't see it, u get to go really close, and it frees u up to get what u want musically, as opposed to being forced into the more common contemporary structures. its more classical in a way. but if u need stuff to lock up, its possible. just not in yr face all the time with the confines of the fashionable lazy way. oh and they were first to go sample accurate with midi. and automation.

ah yeah re Dael. i mean it could be said as dial, or dale or whatever, so i'm glad we came upon autechre, and like that start and end of = ae, it works well in my local ancient surroundings in many ways that are cool. so yeah. thanks for the details there norway cru

you're more than welcome Rob! yea, I think the ae abbreviation is quite catchy and fitting =)

okay so just a few more before bed,

I'm really curious about (sorry if this have been asked/answered earlier somewhere) :

    - parhelic triangle, those eerie chimes, is that a sample from something, like some kind of bell instrument or something else?

    - in krib, is that screws or marbles droppin on the table or something else?

just to give it another try, as it seems everyone is doing it: any chance of getting a name for my new kindle?

(sorry, not into making music so I don't have any music related gear to be named, but I'm an avid reader so would be nice to have my reading device named by u guys!)

oh and I just need to: ............................ rob sean pls, come back to Norway on your next tour! .............. there, I did it!

I think that was that, I mean I could go on ask you all kinds of stuff, like what's ur favourite tooth paste and stuff like that. but I think I'll just leave it with this. discussing Lost, SW, Huxley, Batman etc with Sean, and Yello and stuff with Rob I guess is more that I could ever ask for! cheers guys once again. I'll keep following your work as long as you keep on going, so just keep on going making sounds/tracks/albums for us!

need to prepare for bed. This have been out of this world super awesome, Thanks a million times guys! :)

yeah thanks to u. yeah norway, been lots of europe - just once up there so its highly likely we'll try to get there to make up for it.

I really like your remix of Medium - Celsius for 7 Hills Clash Rebuilt (Forgemasters track is great too)

Anything you can tell us about that mix, or the artist?

dunno if i have any real details. they lived in sheffield same time as us, drew wasn't it sean? had to keep it pretty dubby and brittle cos they new bass up in sheffield and they're good at the sport, esp. the small labels like 10 denk, always pretty characteristic of the sheffield scene as i knew it.

  5. lol while we're on ae video spam, here's my rendition of a video using fol4:

fun in the woods with the vaseline.... we basically had the footage first, but then thought fol4 sounds matched it quite nicely.... editing is super chancey, tried to sync it up partially, but mostly it's kinda intuitive/chunky/luls.....

gotta say it scared the shit out of some folks at the screening....

    vaseline, ah focus i expect

    yeah dope

    Hi guys,

I haven’t been listening to Autechre for decades, or even very long, really. I do look forward to experiencing more of your music in the future and learning more of your back catalogue, but I do feel in the short time that I’ve gotten to know Autechre, I’ve received so much from listening to both your music and your webcasts. That said, all I’ve wanted to do since getting to know your music is to give something back- and that thing would be sandwiches.

I’ve discussed this with many of my friends, and there have been many theories put into place. If I were to make you guys sandwiches, what kind would you like? Are there dietary restrictions and/or allergies for me to consider? I’d be willing to make each of you an entirely different sandwich, but I’ve often thought that avocado would be something both of you might be into.

I’ve wanted to ask about this for some time. Thank you for giving me this outlet, and more importantly, thanks for the music.

yeah i like avocado, esp with a bit of soy sauce, sesame seeds, and some foil cooked salmon

so, something like that? i'll let you figure out if it needs anything else. you seem experienced at sandwiches

So, I'm afraid I must press on for an answer from Rob. We've spent so many evenings discussing this in detail, even considering doing a SWOT analysis on ingredients, and having heated arguments in regards to whether sandwiches themselves are even appropriate. Some of us are getting together tomorrow night for a birthday, and we're going to have a lot of time to discuss and debate your answers. It would also be helpful to know what kind of bread you like. Thanks in advance.

ah yeah i totally like avocado, i like lime juice, olive oil, vinegar, or balsamic, focaccia, ciabatta. or proper irish soda bread, toasted if u can.

  7.

Sean and Rob, thank you for being with us all these days. It was great and unexpected!

    And the last question:

Guys, do you consider yourself happy?

Sean, please give the name of my collection of CDs and vinyls Autechre :music:

Wish you all the best!

Sean, you do not like my avatar? Or am I asking too stupid questions?

hahah we don't mind yr avatar. what is it?

    define happy

kind of a fail but i'm going to try some less busy tracks for the next one. Does this type of thing make you cringe sean or rob? (this why i was asking for the oversteps tempos, so feel free to scrap that idea, hah)

hhah - like i was saying the other day as we used to give each other bits of tracks, and always the keys would work.

this isn't far off. i knew after all this u were up to getting bpms so u cld hammer some of these together. goes a bit awry tho when the tunes take a plunge - they split apart at once

but yeah good start defo, more surprised

  9. Here's a video I knocked up a while back using visuals from Prometheus 'Weyland Files' (not from the film, but pseudo-documentary DVD extra footage), soundtracked by Corc. Finally managed to get it uploaded somewhere tonight.

    Autechre - Corc

Tell us if you think it's a good fit :emb:

looks like u chose nice slow rotating section 2'30 mark. seems to open up as the melody gets a bit more duration. cheers

  10. two days ago i spilt water all over my monomachine, octatrack and a4. once this thread is closed i'm gonna finally turn it back on and hope for the best. hopefully dried out by now.

FWIW - leave it as long as u possibly can, just incase its not quite dry, i rushed it once and failed. dry hot space would be good idea
