Agree! Thank you Sean!

By the way! Can we get some info about the Surripere kind of track you played in Barcelona this year.

Will it come out? ?

Enjoy your food anyway ?

We didn’t record that set but we got the two since

3. sometimes knowing nothing is better than half a story, which is the main reason we hardly ever go into this stuff - the speculation is worse than a total lack of info.. so at the risk of kicking off a lot of further questions (which i will obviously refuse to answer) -

rob did the mpc bits of perlence and i did all the machinedrum/monomachine bits (you can figure out which are which). losid was me, and subrange 6-36 was me (literally just some of my parts slowed down).

pro radii was about 50/50, rob did the start and i did the end (the start is the best bit obviously).

on most tracks from that period as a general rule all the mpc bits were rob and the md/mm bits were me, with a few exceptions.

This will be my final post on this topic, no further questions pl0x, i'm off to eat, have fun

4. Sean Ae That must be beyond irritating to read something so embellished about you and your art.
Nice to hear from you, though.

Can you name my new headphones?

Ok just this once, your headphones are called Derek

Yeah it’s *mildly* annoying but at least it was mostly about other peoples music this time

I’m outta this thread now but cheers Ivan, hi Jaderpansen and everyone, stay safe etc

5. That Humo thing’s full of misquotes. Some of it’s prob just translation errors, or him not understanding the accent or getting words wrong but some is straight up not what we said at all and totally made up. Some of it’s the literal opposite of what we said. You should ask the journo to release the recording but he prob won’t do that.
It is funny though esp the bit about Radiohead, almost wish we’d actually said that.

I was really happy to see you give a shoutout to SoundEdit 16 a couple times and hear a couple tracks you've used it in -- what do you use now for similar editing purposes?

I'd ask for a recommendation for editing software, but I'm not necessarily interested in the "best" -- just something with a similar feel that doesn't require going back to OS9. SE16 was my favorite software years ago and I'm thinking of resurrecting an old OS9-era powerbook so that I can use it again.. I've never been happy with Audacity or other newer editors considered to be similar. Any recommendations?

usually i use digital performer but if its something really simple like trimming starts and ends i'll use wave editor

interesting, so you guys are still pretty die-hard about DP (digital performer)? I tried it a few times and never quite got into it but I know a few producers (one: bloodysnowman) who swears by it.

What specifically about digital Performer especially in the context of AE's music sets it apart from other serious daws like Logic, Cubase or Protools ?

i prefer the audio editing in DP

logic has caught up a bit but DP still has the edge for me

8. Really great to hear that you're fans of zoviet-france too -- I've been really into both Ae and z-f since about mid-1990s and was surprised when I heard later that you played a show together. (I saw the earlier answers about that)

Curious if you have any favorites of 'classic' z-f work (say, Shadow Thief of the Sun and before) or any recollections of how you first got into them ?

we did 3 shows together iirc

one of them was a joint bill where we overlapped our sets but the others were collab gigs

(i might have that wrong, maybe 2 of them were overlapping, my brain is gone)

i can def rem 3 gigs tho, one in newcastle, one in amsterdam, one in nottingham (i think)

got into them in 94 cos of chantal, she played me collusion and what is not true and look into me, and i backtracked

What do you do for sinus problems?

steam mostly

i'm feeling fucked tonight tho i might have to bow out soon

Man steam is GREAT for congestion. Nothing better than standing in a hot shower and just letting it do its trick. Have you tried using a "nedipot" yet? Its pretty wild and makes you feel like you are drowning but will clear the nose and sinus out real quick.

nedipot

yeah self-waterboarding lol

nah i don't trust it man

9. Hi Sean/Rob please visit mexico, here are many people that wants to enjoy your music live.

I think that your albums have different character, but for me Confield is special because is based on generative sequences, how did you avoid using random number generators?

UnderBOAC has one of my favorite complex beats, did you program a polyrhytm sequencer in max?

Are you still using the nord lead, yamaha fs1r, akai mpc 1000 on Exai/L-event?

What do you think about ipad/lemur as a controller?

Best regards

laloslalos

i dunno it's easy enough not to use random in max

not that i'm against it any more (at least in principle - as long as it's done carefully noise can be really useful), but on confield we weren't doing that

no that was all programmed in logic audio

i think there's a bit of mpc on a couple of tracks but none of the rest

never used lemur

iPads are great but tbh i prefer something tactile for using with max, for now anyway

10.

ah yeah re Dael. i mean it could be said as dial, or dale or whatever, so i'm glad we came upon autechre, and like that start and end of = ae, it works well in my local ancient surroundings in many ways that are cool. so yeah. thanks for the details there norway cru

you're more than welcome Rob! yea, I think the ae abbreviation is quite catchy and fitting =)

okay so just a few more before bed,

I'm really curious about (sorry if this have been asked/answered earlier somewhere) :

- parhelic triangle, those eerie chimes, is that a sample from something, like some kind of bell instrument or something else?

- in krib, is that screws or marbles droppin on the table or something else?

just to give it another try, as it seems everyone is doing it: any chance of getting a name for my new kindle?

(sorry, not into making music so I don't have any music related gear to be named, but I'm an avid reader so would be nice to have my reading device named by u guys!)

oh and I just need to: ............................ rob sean pls, come back to Norway on your next tour! .............. there, I did it!

I think that was that, I mean I could go on ask you all kinds of stuff, like what's ur favourite tooth paste and stuff like that. but I think I'll just leave it with this. discussing Lost, SW, Huxley, Batman etc with Sean, and Yello and stuff with Rob I guess is more that I could ever ask for! cheers guys once again. I'll keep following your work as long as you keep on going, so just keep on going making sounds/tracks/albums for us!

need to prepare for bed. This have been out of this world super awesome, Thanks a million times guys! :)

-it's an instrument

-no, it's not marbles or screws

your kindle is now called jimmy wales

12. lol while we're on ae video spam, here's my rendition of a video using fol4:

fun in the woods with the vaseline.... we basically had the footage first, but then thought fol4 sounds matched it quite nicely.... editing is super chancey, tried to sync it up partially, but mostly it's kinda intuitive/chunky/luls.....

gotta say it scared the shit out of some folks at the screening....

looks good, will queue for later

soz these vids are all holding me up

looks very fitting from what i can see so far tho

13.

Sean and Rob, thank you for being with us all these days. It was great and unexpected!

And the last question:

Guys, do you consider yourself happy?

Wish you all the best!

Sean, you do not like my avatar? Or am I asking too stupid questions?

ah hi

sorry i have a cold and i keep missing things today

no excuse tho

yeah i mean, i dunno, what's happy? does it even mean anything?

your collection is now called autechre
