  1. altibizz ans Simmm are some of the warmest and generally "emotional" ae songs this side of LP5 +notwo +Paralel Suns +Outh9x If Quaristice didn't have these tracks I probably wouldn't have given the rest a chance.
  2. Cool! Interesting to note... as far as I can tell, the clips are of the first 30 seconds of each track. If I'm right that means that (as we all assumed) there aren't any weird awkward crossfades. It also reminds me that I really really like Os Veix3. It reminds me of Uviol.
  3. Ok.... I'm not one to listen to leaks and stuff but I've been having a lot of fun getting caught up in the hype this time so I thought "why not". Besides, since Draft7.30 came out, I've only been disappointed with everything Autechre have done, and I think I would have been doubly disappointed if I bought anything of theirs now without listening first. I listened to Quaristice in bits before finally buying it quite recently and actually found myself enjoying some of it. So anyway, here's my initial thoughts: *It's not that great. It's not bad either but I have a slew of better, similar sounding albums that I got for free from people on this forum or net labels. That said, a lot of that free music I would happily pay money for because I think it's nice to listen sometimes. But I haven't really been into generic IDM for a couple of years now. And that's exactly what this is. *More melodic... hmmm... that's an interesting way to describe it. I'm not sure this is what I'd call melodies as much as a bunch of unrelated synth sounds bubbling one after the other in rapid succession. This is about as melodic as throwing a bunch of bouncy balls on a keyboard, just taping down some of the notes so it all stays in key. *I think the album actually works best when there are beats. The melodies aren't anywhere near strong enough to hold their own cos they're just semi random twinkly sounds. However, with a nice rhythm going along with them, they suddenly transform into warm, drone-like atmospheres. Someone mentioned Gridlock, only heard a few of their tracks and I agree with the comparrison, I think that's a good thing. *It's hard to comment on production and sound design on something so low quality but I can at least comment on some of the really obvious sound choices. Everything between Anvil Vapre and Confield had amazing sound design. The sounds were all earthy... in a mechanical way... if that makes sense... what I mean is that it sounded like the product of some kind of machine, or some kind of robot or in the case of Confield, something completely alien. Even Gantz Graf has a nice girttiness to it that sort of gives it this quality. Then Draft came out and that and everythign afterwards just sounded like a bunch of synths and drum machines to me. This might appeal to some but to me they've lost something. Oversteps seems to take this aesthetic the the extreme, almost in a way that I find a little more easier to swallow... very raw, unpolished synth sounds. They're boring but at the same time really nostalgic. Sometimes I'm in the mood for that. *Every track on this album SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME. I think I could grow to appreciate the subtle differences (often I have to give pop/rock albums a lot of time to sink in for this reason) but again... variation is something Autechre do so well. Quaristice might have pushed this a bit too far but at least it kept me from getting bored. This album took me 3 sittings to get through, every 20 minutes I got soooo bored! So yeah... this is only from one listen... I think I want to hear the final thing before I give it any further listens. Overall, it's got a nostalgic feel to it. It actually reminds me more of Incunabula to be honest, cos that album I find terribly boring and samey, I rarely listen to it. But when I do, it feels kinda heart warming... reminds me of when I first started listening to IDM. And so does Oversteps.
  4. !!! These are real right? I think I might have to pre order an Autechre album for the first time in my life!
  5. That's fair enough I guess. I'm sure the Mary Anne Hobbes preview tracks came out about this early on. Maybe they're trying the opposite strategy. Where with Quaristice they chucked it up on Bleep before the physical releases came out, and there were those radio tracks and stuff.. this time they're gonna give us NOTHING until the release date.... ...and then they'll postpone it by a coupla days just to piss us off :P
  6. But this isn't true. There was one short preview that nobody thought was real (including me) who said it harkened back to Tri Repetae, and another more detailed one more recently (which apparently was a preview of a longer article or an interview or something) which revealed that the album is very ambient (if I remember right it compared it to Amber) and that there's a possibility that it will be completely beatless. wait, someone said it sounds like tri repetae? its all beatless? it sounds like amber? first of all, how does that mean someone has it? ill go post on my blog that this album sounds like a watermelon. i must have it if i know it sounds like that. also, if they think tri rep sounds like amber and neither one of them have beats, well then how the fuck could they be a music critic? well Autechre themselves said something along the lines of, after doing all this beat heavy stuff for the Quaristice tour, when they got back into the studio they just wanted to make songs that had no beats in it. That doesn't mean NONE of them have beats but it certainly sounds like it. The info is in BOTH of the Oversteps threads, I can't be bothered looking for it again. My point is, you said that "not a single word was being said about it" so I gave you two examples and instantly you dismiss them. You've just arguing for the sake of arguing. Why is everyone whining about it being announced 3 months before it comes out? this is perfectly normal, it happens with every album, how can you not be used to it by now?!?
  7. But this isn't true. 8. True. However... I foresee a future in which most, if not all of these tracks will have a proper title... maybe... I'm not sure... but probably. I think.
  9. ...what if I... I mean... what if he didn't give it a proper name yet because it was written specifically for the Oversteps fake...
  10. I always found most of Incunabula pretty boring compared to Amber. The only track from Amber that I never got into was Nil. The rest of it is awesome. Sure it's dated a bit but I think that adds to it's charm.
  11. Well... normally I don't look into the leaks that much cos I can't be bothered using Soulseek but all this hype has rekindled my interest in Autechre and so I can't resist this time! As far as the altered:carbon fake goes.... I don't get the hype. Not only does it not sound ANYTHING like Autechre IN THE SLIGHTEST, it's pretty generic and bland... if you like this stuff I really urge you to support the musicians in the EKT forum and also on web labels, because most of them are producing far more interesting and original music. The latest one is the only one I've downloaded the entire album of (I'm used to downloading from Rapidshare, all internet is slow in New Zealand). For the most part it's actually a little more believable that it's Autechre but I certainly wouldn't bet on it. However... I probably wouldn't have believed that most of Quaristice was Autechre if I heard it as a leak. Actually, the fact that I quite like this second leak gives me more reason to think it's NOT real Autechre :P
  12. This is gonna sound weird... but I always thought the cover to confield looked like bad quality photos of a fancy office building... like they were taken with a cheap webcam. The left image on the front cover, the left surface looks a bit like wood grain, so I immediately got a sense of polished wooden walls, with these shiney metal panels that decorate the walls. The image on the right therefore gave me the impression of stairs... but all fragmented. I kind of like the way I see it more than the reality, cos that video looks a little dated now. But I still think it's really cool that that's how they got the art work. I wish that musicians put together extensive documentaries on every aspect of the album's creation. I always wanted "special features" like DVD's have. Commentary for an album (I guess it'd have to work like Pop Up Video) would be great! And behind the scenes footage and stuff about the artwork and stuff... I know most musicians don't put in enough effort to warrant that kind of depth but imagine Autechre doing something like that, it'd be fantastic.
  13. Either that promo mix is fake or Ae have taken huge steps backwards in mastering, mixing, production and sound design. Then again I still think that about Draft7.30 but that at least had some original ideas in terms of song writing.
  14. One of my life long dreams is to buy one of those Master Grade Eva01's that are super awesome and really really expensive. But I can only see myself wasting that much money on something like that if I had A LOT of money to waste.
  15. Well you know how much I love it... Watched Kaiba yet? It's only 12 episodes, I love it pretty much just as much as Evangelion.
  16. I've always thought AE were the masters of this concept, Rae, Cichli, Pir, Dropp etc
  17. I always get this weird image in my head, it's hard to describe, but basically if I was making a music vid for it it'd be all sorta top down, the camera constantly panning upwards (sorta like an old shooter game). And the land scape is a weird mix of yellow brick and sewing machine-like devices, blades and needles moving about almost like insect legs. As the melody breaks through, the bricks and machines start to break away, like beams of light shoot through them, and the more melody comes in the more beams of light comes though, until the path is just crumbling and only a few fragments remain, and underneath is a pink cloudy sky. I remember the first time I heard that song... it's one of those perfect musical moments that I feel like I'll never experience anything like ever again.
  18. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to be a sheep and just join in with what everyone else said: 1) AMAZING 2) Reminds me of Gantz Graf 3) Make more It's hard not to compare to Gantz Graf, but I don't think you've ripped it off at all. I think the main similarity here is the fact that you managed to capture the sound of Autechre visually absolutely perfectly. Actually, the main thing that I think you improved on is by making it go on a sort of forward path. I've always pictured Autechre songs moving forward on some vaguely linear path. I'm really glad you've done that here, it just works so perfectly I think. Also, I'm blown away by the amount of effort you put into a fan creation! I sincerely hope this helps you in your professional life too.
  19. Well after hearing Simmm and Paralel Suns I'm a lot more interested in hearing the rest of the album... but still a bit skeptical... those two songs are really really cool
  20. I think it's safe to say I'm the only person who found those 3 tracks awfully boring. I don't like them at all. It's always interesting to hear how they've progressed tho.
  21. I don't think Autechre are too indie for watermarking, Animal Collective's last album had watermarked promo's... and I wouldn't be surprised if Autechre have a bigger following considering they've been around for so long.
  22. Watermarked promo albums have some data of thing encoded in them, I've no idea how it works but basically, they have some kind of unique ID attached to every copy, which means if someone rips it, then the label will be able to tell by finding that ID in the ripped files. Some people don't care if they get caught, and some clever people know ways around it so it's never really prevented any leaks from happening.
  23. I still think this album is a bit inconsistent... Oupt could have been SOOO cool if it didn't just do the same thing over and over again, it kinda wrecks the album a bit. Some other tracks sound a little under developed too. But there's enough flat out AWESOME stuff to make it one of my favourite Autechre albums. Maphive and Pir in particular never fail to amaze me.
