Bangin' I think the arrangement is pretty complex for the genre, I like how he builds up tracks in a way that the other IDMers don't. Although I fucking love Steinbolt.
I get that they're not for everyone (from the sound to the potential complexity of the synth for a beginner) but I get so much joy and fun out of playing with it. It's just a weird little machine that is able to make a full track without using another synth, which is vital for me. I've had enough of massive setups with shit loads of synths and wires. Hate seeing it. Kind of depends what you want to do though.
BLR 21f- Has a great fluid flow to it that makes it very 'relistenable' - I think this track and the ep in general is about his dad.
in a room7 - Fantastic initial energy. Love the weird panned pads, the supporting melody and the buildup of tension. Kind of goes into a bit of a 'Tussy' breakdown which I've missed. Then reminds me of OPN after 2 mins. Seems to use some Collapse sounds/rhythms in the last couple of minutes.
These fit nicely with the Collapse EP.
Yeah, the Octatrack is very good for that sort of stuff. Love the ability to sequence effects at different meters on it as well. The channel I sent over is good for specific ideas but also for allowing you to think about what the Octatrack is really capable of. Good luck dude ?
What sort of music are you planning to make with the Octatrack? It used to be my sequencing 'hub' for all my hardware, the external sequencer is underrated and its timing is excellent.
I found this guys channel interesting for more technical/generative stuff > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDdxA2aDv8w&list=PLwc8ITzX9he5bJn9joo3BzgwfO7B-ccXn - Although that was before you could do it easily in Ableton so it might be old hat now.
Thanks for the information on midi sequencing... The sequencer on the original DFAM does have a great groove to it and I experimented with it's timing possibilities via CV/modular and it worked to some degree but lost it's uniqueness. Maybe I'll end up sampling this.
The overlays are actually very nice but I resent having to buy one! Funny how someone can make a living making Behringer synths/drum machines look better.
I keep listening to it on repeat so I guess it must be "quite good"
Only thing that surprises me is the lack of transition to the B part. Not like him to 'lazily' go into it.

Cheers dudes, thanks for listening and the kind words. Was expertimenting with non 4/4 rhythms, 'humanising' the grooves and sound design which isn't my normal thing but enjoyed working on it.
