  1. Thanks for listening! Go through phases of enjoying this type of composition and that they're pretty unique/difficult to replicate. I made the art for the album as well so pleased to know that it fits. There's a previous album in a similar vein if you're interested > https://midievil-records.bandcamp.com/album/perf-me
  2. Interesting, always thought Autechre were equally big on fucking up samples? I think the comparison thing is if you make good 'weird' music that has a tone, sound quality, personality and keeps your interest (whether rhythmic, timbral or melodic) then you're bound to be compared to Autechre.
  3. Without getting too wanky about it I think normally it's a comparison of 'palette' rather than having decent/interesting rhythms or melodies. Detuned synths with 808/606 samples recorded to lo-fi tape etc etc "Sounds like early AFX mate." A lot of the AFX 'copies' can't develop a track beyond it's initial idea. A lot of the Autechre 'copies' think that making an irregular rhythm makes it good. At the end of the day, most of the "Sounds like X" comments are just people trying to be nice about something they like.
  4. Could be a compliment. Could be an observation. Could be disrespect.
  5. This ambient work is very good. Lovely timbre. ?
  6. Kind of falls under the 'niches' of abstract, experimental, sound art and sound design composition with some lush ambient bits in between (Womb is particularly nice). Av a listen geezers!
  7. Funny thing is a lot of people struggle enough with creating interesting 'normal' rhythms, let alone fucking around with polyrhythms.

  9. It sounds and looks like utter shit in comparison with the DFAM ? I also can't stand the twat who does their videos...
  10. Roland cube is decent. Love sending things into an amp, especially if it has effects. Just gives a sound something different (not always good!) Recorded this onto a cheap field recorder via an amp, was after a Raime vibe > https://midievil-records.bandcamp.com/track/the-gloom-i (track is Rytm only in case anyone's interested).
  11. On a mission to find a sad drum loop. Sure there must be a sad, drum only, hip hop instrumental ?

  14. Thanks for all your advice, really appreciate it. I'm now thinking that maybe the best idea is to clean out the Mac I have and get a new computer for work instead. I only plan to make music with it and maybe some streaming but nothing crazy. I'll have a think on it.
  15. Thanks for the advice. I'm used to Mac's now but will likely look at a normal laptop as think the price point might be cheaper for a less 'cool' product? Looking at some of the Dell, 16gm ram. Maybe one like this > https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/laptops/new-inspiron-15/spd/inspiron-15-5515-laptop/cn51206 or https://www.johnlewis.com/dell-inspiron-14-5406-convertible-laptop-intel-core-i7-processor-16gb-ram-512gb-ssd-14-inch-full-hd-titan-grey/p5265848
  16. Hello friends. Was wondering if any of you have recently bought a new laptop/computer for music making and if so what did you get? I just need something that is decent for Ableton, running multiple plugins etc etc. I'll then keep this computer (Mac 2013, 2 GHz Intel Core i7, 16gb) separate for work so that it doesn't die on me. Any help appreciated!
  17. Absolutely love tracks 1 and 6. Best braindance I've heard in a long time. Wish they'd go on for longer.
  18. Depends what you want to make. Sherman probably better for weird, resonant distortion and experimentation. Heat is good for more controlled, basic, expected results. Heat also works really nicely in a DAW if that makes any difference.
  19. Love the melodies/pads on this. Looking forward to hearing the full tracks.
