  1. I had downloaded many songs of AE in the 90's from limewire. I first heard them on a radio station in NY called WFMU. A dj named Clay had a great show where he would play a variety of IDM, Breakcore, Dub , Reggae, Techno and Minimal house and a bunch of other related genres. The show was called the Pounding System. So I had downloaded AE songs from hearing them on that show but I was never really aware of songs by title nor had I heard a full album yet. One night I got lost in NJ trying to get back to NY. I was with mt friend Karl who is a fanatical electronic music fan and had knowledge beyond mine in that music. We stopped at a best buy and ended up in the CD section Untilted had just come out. Karl suggested I buy it for the ride. I did and we listened to it the whole way home. Since then I have been hooked. I like all there albums but Untilted will always have a special place in my heart.
  2. No matter how much proof you show some people they just can't get away from that lesser of two evils mentality. I think for some it just seems too bleak so they cling to the idea of a good guy and Bill is those peoples patron saint so I am not surprised. One thing I am thankful for in this WATMM take on a MSM story is that no where else would I have discovered the house of cosby!
  3. Well a few things you raise good points here and I agree with you but I am not too much of a house dude but mainly because of when I grew up and where I grew up in brooklyn house music was synonymous with guido douchebags However I like Frankie Knuckles and all the minimal stuff but that was much later..The thing I thought was funny was in the 90s according to EQ mag groove armada was downtempo. I just don't think it ever really was a subculture or genre just a different way to say the same thing like you said. I agree with you on the co opting of the music by the indie rockers but there is nothing wrong with song writers with vocals. I think everyone wanted to be Bjork after the southbank show It was kinda dope watching her walk the beach with a sampler however bs it actually was being that I track down that sampler forever and when I got it although its mad cool the Yamaha SU10 it does not do what she said it does.... Sub genere's are funny but looking back now on a term like downtempo it just amazes me to watch people chase the rainbow
  4. Your vaporwave tracks are better than that Italian bands but theirs are more of the VHS 80's/90's instructional video samples Yours are of a higher quality though maybe you should make a collection of them so I can contemplate downloading that too ;) the discogs downtempo description makes me sad because in my fantasy world I reap untold fortunes from strictly appealing to a strict downtempo audience that militantly only listens to and defines themselves by downtempo much like the way skinheads do with Oi! that description and seeing Sade listed as an artist kills that dream :( However there was the Sade cameo in Absolute Beginners so maybe the mods will listen all 5 of the remaining 68 year old's damn this IDM
  5. I was debating weather I should download this yesterday funny turns out its vaporwave https://bl00dwave.bandcamp.com/album/--5
  6. "why is your screen red?" "because aphex twin" what is flux? software that reduces the blue light of your PC screen in sync with your local sunrise/sunset. Reduces eye strain and helps reduce computer screen influenced sleep loss as well (your body reacts to the blue spectrum of light from the sun or something that keeps you awake). the best solution is to just not use any screens before you sleep but flux is still very effective, been using it for five years (edit: don't think it's been out that long but certainly since 2011 or so) or so and it's been great, might be a placebo but the science is there at least. I definitely notice a difference when I use my TV or phone at night which don't reduce blue light at night. that sounds good maybe it will help me sleep better because I am always using a laptop before bed
  7. "why is your screen red?" "because aphex twin" what is flux?
  8. Has anyone listened to now all 180 tunes in one sitting .....or however many days it would take to listen to them all ? I wonder what happens to you if you do ? Does your hair turn red and suddenly you start making many alias's for yourself?
  9. I have both a QY70 and a QY700 and I will tell you the 700 is totally easier to work with. The back lit screen the big buttons its basically everything you ever wanted the QY70 to be. That being said the song structure system is similar.
  10. Reading through this thread I can't help but wonder does Tom use a fleshlight or his hand? Analog or Digital

  12. The concrete walls are reflection hell. I know taking on the task of sound treatment is a pain and especially in a place you rent that is temporary but think of it this way if you build panels they can be easily transported to every new space you move to. Even if you do not want to build panels like psn said the first reflection point panels and maybe a blanket on the back wall will make a big difference also you can make an overhead cloud with packing blankets. I know what a pain it is to move a studio and set up a new one. I think I am finally getting my new work spaces configured and at a point where I can do some work in them.

  18. i'd like to hear something more contextual. that's personally the kind of noise i enjoy- but more importantly, noise isn't about what i (or anyone else) likes. it's about what you like. i think the moment we describe noise, we begin to define it, which goes against what noise should be (at least how i think about it). perhaps some people are completely fine with saying "that's noise". i'm more comfortable about questioning it. as an example: one of my favorite noise performances was by the gerogerigegege where they promised a concert by the beach, and when everyone showed up, they threw copies of their (at the time) new record into a pit and lit them all on fire then left. when asked why, they said "no answer. this is the gerogerigegege" Fair enough definitions are irrelevant my experience with noise comes from the people I grew up around in ny who were involved in making it. I liked some stuff disliked others Was at Merzbow shows in the 90s and Borbetomagus and Boredom shows the experience was better live but I do remember hearing some Hand full of dust things that I liked a lot
  19. My nephew says this is noise I personally don't think it is but I thought I would throw the link here and see what youse thought http://forum.watmm.com/topic/86715-just-a-little-experiment-with-3-kaoss-pads/
