    TWIN PEAKS

I took it as maybe Coopelganger driving into town, and when Sarah Palmer was saying "men are coming" we're gonna see all the different characters converging on twin peaks. Although I dunno how Dougie's gonna end up there.

    TWIN PEAKS

Just went back and watched the scene with Andy and that guy but his name isn't mentioned. The only other time I remember a Billy coming up was right at the end of an episode where that guy ran into the diner and shouted "Has anyone seen Billy?". Also was that whole scene with Gordon, Albert and the french lady all just Gordon giving Albert information in code? It's reaaally similar to that bit at the beginning of FWWM with the dancing lady. The stuff Gordon says in both is pretty similar as well, both things about relations to his mother.

One of the most emotionally draining books i've ever read. Brilliant, but it is not a happy one.

Anyone else notice the weird flickering windows on the jet? Thought it was just due to reflections but looks like they were digitally scrubbed out. More here: https://www.reddit.com/r/twinpeaks/comments/6ig4l1/s3e7_disappearing_fbi_jet_windows_at_2127/

Just started Against the Day as well. It's completely brilliant so far.
  7. Someone on reddit pointed out that a load of Japanese back catalogue reissues are due out on the same day. Possibly to coincide with whatever the countdown is for? https://www.reddit.com/r/aphextwin/comments/6f2ii5/japanese_album_back_catalogue_reissues_dated_for/

Finally finished Mason & Dixon. It was brilliant and i already miss hangin out with them. Such fun characters. Now started Dune cause like i've gotta read it at some point init. It's alright so far, but the contrast between pynhcon's writing and this is kinda jarring. Sorta feels like it was written in an A-level english class. The man said this. The woman was surprised. "Oh no!" said the woman.

I've never really understood how people conclude an artist is taking themselves too seriously just from the music. Surely you can only infer that from interviews? From the couple of elseq interviews i've read, it sounds like ae are having a fuckin blast at the moment. Didn't they liken their current system to gta at one point, saying it's just like fucking around in a video game and seeing what comes out. Is an artist automatically taking themselves too seriously if they're not making happy tracks?

Well timed, I just started Mason & Dixon and intend to do Against The Day immediately after. Been rereading Pynchon in chronological order this year after reading V for the first time. Fuck yea, M&D squad in the house! How far are tha through? I'm in chapter 16, with The Octuple Gloucester.

Had a busy semester with little time to read but managed to get through a couple books that were suggested in this thread. First was In the Approaches by Nicola Barker, which to start with i wasn't too sure about, but ended up enjoying it. There's something about the writing style that kind of annoyed me for some reason, reckon it's just probably not my cup of tea, but the plot had me intrigued and very british humor was fun. Then read Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies by Nick Bostrom, which was fascinating and terrifying at the same time. So many factors to ai that i'd never even begun to consider. Great book, would recommend to anyone who wants to be left deeply paranoid about the future. Now the holiday's started i've finally got around to Mason & Dixon by Pynchon. Loving it so far and seems like the perfect time of year to be reading it. Plus, the first song of the book is sung by a talking dog, what more could you want.

    elseq 1-5

While when this first came out 1 and 4 were instant favourites, now some time's passed it's 2 and 3 i can't stop listening to. Enjoying 5 a lot more now as well but still not really feeling pendulu casual. As a whole i'm still just as in awe of this as i was the day it came out, if not more. Also the guy who wrote that book on SAW2 is doing an elseq listening diary: http://disquiet.com/2016/09/11/autechre-elseq-1-5-listening-diary/
  15. One other obvious thing I've really been noticing like a lot more recently is subtle frequency envelopes. Maybe they don't use them and I'm just hearing things but I never really noticed them too much until a while ago. Everything after Oversteps strategically makes use of starting out as one note and really quickly switching to another to kind of imply a background melody made up of these barely present notes, as well as background drones starting at one and slowly going up to another. This results in that effect where you can hum a fully fleshed out melody in your head along with the track, but half of the melody you're humming isn't even in the track so you think wtf? But it actually is there scattered over time so your brain pieces it together and fills in the gaps in future repetitions. Not sure i understand this bit. You got any specific examples?
  16. man the visual interface of this is so satisfying to watch
  17. You tried to implement any of this in your own music zeff? Would be very interested to hear
  18. This is true, but under iTunes it labeled as 'Blonde' so I have no idea what to call the album how about on the front cover of the album? https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/blonde/id1146195596 FLOL "My family (which I started and raised whilst waiting for the album) and I really enjoy it thus far." waiting for syro i went through my teens and nearly all my 20s THANKS RICH when is the frank ocean and aphex collab happening? Funny you say this, cause he's a fan. Saw this image, from the magazine thing that came with the album, on the death grips subreddit. Think it lists his favourite albums or something.

I'd really like to do a re-read of IJ too but i just keep telling myself to wait longer cause for some reason i've got it into my head that it'll be better the longer i wait. Maybe my brain's way of subconsciously begging me not to put it through that again? Really though i don't think i've ever been as wrapped up with characters as i was with IJ. Of course due to DFW's writing but also just the sheer amount of time you spent with them because of the book's length. I found it fully addictive, like it's got such a weird kind of pull to it (love that gravitational description above bechuga), and when i was finished i just couldn't get it out of my head for weeks. Kinda ironic considering one of the main driving forces of the plot being the Entertainment.

I finished Ulysses cause I'm a stereotypical angsty 20 year old male. Thoroughly enjoyed it overall but due to the way it's written, with the style changing each chapter, certain chapters have definitely remained in my mind more. Absolutely loved the Cyclops and Circe chapters especially, hilarious stuff. Kinda wish I knew more about English lit theory to understand more of the clever wordplays and puns he put in, but it was still easy to see how smart it is without any academic knowledge. Now started Pynchon's Bleeding Edge. It's weird, like if I didn't know it was Pynchon I definitely wouldn't have been able to guess. That's a good thing I suppose.

Funny that you mention that passage as it's probably the first that comes in to my mind when i think of Vineland. 'If patterns of ones and zeros were "like" patterns of human lives and deaths, if everything about an individual could be represented in a computer record by a long string of ones and zeros, then what kind of creature would be represented by a long string of lives and deaths?' Goddamn.
