  1. I see microtuning.  This sounds fun already so I'm pretty sure I'll buy one.  I was really tempted by the Korg collab but I never got around to it.  It's ridiculous to think that he'd be doing this for the money.  I doubt he is earning too much from it.    I prefer to think he just wants us all to have fun toys.

  2. How cool that young RDJ had access to digital multitrack recording equipment in the mid 80s!!

Maybe you were being sarcastic but in the case that you weren't, RDJ has said that he doesn't multitrack when he records.  He sequences everything and just hits record on whatever he's using, DAT/laptop/hard disk recorder/etc, then hits play on the sequencer.  He records everything straight to a stereo two-track.

  3. here's a suggestion, you could take any vinyl, print out a scan of the cover from TECH004, place over the vinyl, put it on the turntable, turn the volume down, press play on the turntable, then press play on your computer which has the two soundcloud tracks lined up. problem solved!

I just tried this and you're right, it works!

  4. xmas evet10 or minipops as a 'live' track doesn't seem believable to me, but all the others do.

I know what you mean. just hearing him say that everything is recorded live blew my mind and everything about the way I imagined he works. but he did say that he uses a lot of program changes, so each new sound doesn't necessarily mean a new synth. also, in the Syrobonkus interview he talks about sequencing/programming an EQ matrix, saying it's tedious as fuck. as I gather more and more info, it seems like it's possible, but an insane proposition for someone that's not a genius/autistic.

I have since changed the way I produce my own music, basically doing live takes as well. it is more satisfying than piecing everything together in a DAW.

  5. Serious question:

.........all this SC stuff is amazing BUT how many think its pure ultra modern marketing effort by Aphex's hidden management posse?

Sure it has the veneer of a musician-with-integrity-touching-base-with-fans.... but could it all be just another music industry charade?

Does it even matter?.... if its all about the tunes anyway?

I really don't think Richard operates under anyone's control (Warp, managers, etc.). I've seen people suggest that he is pissing off Warp or might get sued by so-and-so, and I can't help but chuckle. I truly believe Warp are as happy as piss (just lik we are) when they get something from him to release, and would never in a million years consider suing him.

I'm sure Richard operates on his own terms and it seems like he has since way early on. Besides, how can HUNDREDS OF FREE UNRELEASED RDJ TUNES be anything but a gift?
