Am I alone in thinking that the KLF are massively overrated and a bit shit? The novelty factor wears off at a lightning pace

Perhaps more charitably you could say they're the Peter Molyneux of musicians: Riding the hype of 80s and 90s classics and nowadays promising so much, but delivering hot air...

  2. love love love to see this mentioned by Rob. Always thought it strange that it doesn't get ridiculed more often

I think we’ve also come from this kind of approach where we’re not Danny Rampling waving vinyl around, or suffering from that sort of visibly loud ‘hot encoder/hot fader’ syndrome. We’re just really so past, beyond that, we were always too self aware to actually let ourselves get away with that.

  3. Seem to remember a few years back PRS for music (a royalty services for recording artists) having their database open to the public (now closed off without an account:  https://searchworks.prsformusic.com/ ) where it definitively showed The Tuss being Richard, but there were no other surprises on there. Pretty sure any releases hitting the Top 40 back then would've had him credited on there somewhere....

EDIT: actually looks like it might've been BMI not PRS -  https://forum.watmm.com/topic/70627-steinvord-speculation/page/30/#comment-1970788

  4. Wondered what was different in the above from the original as this was exactly how I remembered it sounding..... then I remembered the version I've heard the most is exactly that mix as it's the opening track to this Orb remix compilation:

  5. Anyone know of any long form tracks that are more 'happy' drone rather than soundtracks to dark and scary worlds ? Love that kinda thing at time but also like the occasional relaxing break to push in contented feelings into my ears and brain, like a nice quiet walk down the road on a warm autumn afternoon and the sun throws a golden heat and light at everything.

Have an example here (the first 43minutes), not actually sure who the artist is (unless maybe there's an artist called 'Ambient Music') as I don't think it's anything Hildur Guðnadóttir did for the soundtrack:

It's obviously a thin tightrope between 'happy' drone and New-Age (which is a little too cring inducing for me), so I'm looking for something that still has that sort of introspective/melancholy vibe like the above piece.

  6. Nah must've been before that - I'm assuming my 'sorry' was in reference to its (then) overuse. It might've come about originally from that guy who posted progress in EKT of construction of  wooden acoustic panels, and then ripped into everyone for not appreciating the nulls (and would post continually posts tracks at something like 81% speed for some reason). I could be wrong but I thought it might've been the same person that referred to the Analord .flac releases when they were briefly available on Rephlex as 'digital vinyls/vinals'

Was is maybe this thread ?

what's with this new trend of calling digital vinyls to digital files (wav, flac)? or am I missing something?

Can't remember what release it was on (Analord maybe ?) but I believe it was a WATMM 'taking the piss' term (see also 'nulls') referring to a music file as 'digital vinyls' (I believe it might actually be spelled: 'digital vinals')
