  1. I find it weird that neither Warp or Aphex have promoted this countdown at all. AFAIK, the only time it's been name-dropped is at the bottom of the NTS stream page.

Unless we get an update this Thursday (or early next week) I wouldn't count on any new material, if it is a Bleepstore. If new/unreleased Aphex Twin material was on the way, you'd assume they'd put way more effort into the marketing.

Same thoughts here, unless there will be another countdown to a new album starting from the bleepstore release. Or just a simple announcement to go with it...
  2. Am I the only one not excited by a MFM release?

Unless it is redone quite differently, I am not sure I am very psyched for that.

I was just wondering about this since it is indeed an older release and there wouldn't be need of going through all the hassle.

But it would actually be a nice way to finally be able to hear the album as intended with a proper sound quality.

  3. Is it possible that that unreleased Houston live track is one of those two SYRO tracks that did not make the album?

If that is the case it's a damn shame... Would switch it with 180db in a second.

  4. This release has grown on me quite quickly, some very nice stuff in here.

    This!

A1 gets me every time... also would like to hear more of the ending part because it stops abruptly and it seems like a whole new track.

But B3 is still my absolute favourite. I must say especially with this track the difference between vinyl and rip is big. You don't hear the synth very well that comes in around the 40 sec mark and that is just the best part. Makes me lose my noodles :)

Are we witnessing some very new kind of style with some of the tracks here? With some of them I just can't put my finger on em.

Right now it's a great time to be an AFX fan

I have a feeling we have been saying this for the last three years, and rightly so.

  5. He added this to his soundcloud, don't really understand much of it, but I bet some of you guys will:

forgot to say how the modular bit is working, have 10 outputs from the modular into the Midas 160 and 7 outputs from the midas160 into the modular. Midas is really good for this as, I use the group out sliders and the aux out sliders, which are really nice and fast to set on the fly, can play them as opposed to turning a knob which is a slower to do in live situ. Do a little bit of patching on the go but automate a few different routings with the WMDmatrix, I used to use the Alyseum matrix for that but ran out of room, need a bigger case..as always…still its great trying to work with a limited set of modules, wish there was a eurorack matrix module with built in attenuverters per routing like the totally awesome Buchla 210e.

  6.

so was there not a primavera record?

Unfortunately, no. He just premiered that crazy song there. No Forbidden Fruit white label either.

Will he maybe do one each year?

Or one per continent maybe ? First was America, this one in Europa and a last one at his forthcoming Japanese show ?

    That would be astounding:

july 6th/7th announcement of something new

    july 28th, new vinyl.

He is spoiling us (even if that wouldn't happen)

  7.

    Damn, he played Death Fuck

    and w32.mydoom.au@mm?

    metal

Lo! thats my recording from the LAST FF afx played at!...

    meanwhile in 2017....

My take on FF  vs FD

Visuals - well the Barn at FD was obviously indoor so the contained smoke/darkness showed off the lasers more, no surprise there. The displays and general graphics were the same though - i really got lost in the color schemes - excellent!

Crowd - as usual, more agro at the irish gig   - younger/drunker. Afx works best in ireland at his own shows in indoor venues. Its a pain to navigate through the messy festival crowd but once you're at the gig itself you're usually immersed in like-minded folks. I only go to irish festivals if they're tiny or afx is playing.

Set -  much more even than FD which was very disjointed and abstract for most of it. Im not complaining, just different vibes and each differently enjoyable and very welcome. I can't wait to hear the recordings now  and get lost in them again in a  different way. I recorded all of FF on my ipod but doubt its that usable - i will see later. Man AFX loves those squarepusher unreleased tracks!

Sound: slightly better at FF i thought with some odd moments at FD like Lisbon acid having the drums quiet - can't imagine it was on purpose but maybe

I was actually wondering if he will ever do his own shows again instead of festivals. At Field Day I heard this guy next to me saying to his friend that he thought Aphex Twin was a russian woman. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I politely told him he should be ashamed of himself :)

That being said it would be really great to be at a concert where every single person is there only for Aphex... In general I prefer going to concerst of individual artists vs festivals for this exact reason. The vibe is different. Also at FD I remember when Airflow came on I feel like I was the only one who reacted to it in my vicinity, like no one recognised it... That would not happen at a concert.

  8. B3 is just pure magic!!! What a magnificent track...

Lovinf this lp more and more after each listen.

The more I hear it the more I have the feeling the tracks are from different periods, or maybe the remakes of some periods like someone stated before.

Can't imagine what his next album is gonna be like...

That being said, i still don't consider this to be a proper release, but more unfinished tracks. Reminds me of the syrobonkers interview tracks because they are not as layered as say Syro.

I just wanna point out that these tracks are published, and are most likely as done and fleshed out as they will ever be, so they are "finished". Even though they are not A-list Aphex Twin Album tracks, there are lots of releases like this in his discography, with some of the best gems, and these may be tracks he really likes.

TLDR just try to appreciate them for what they are. I know your post was positive, this aint a critisim.

Yea I'm seeing this as b-sides. Great tracks, things he wanted to share, but seems more like ideas that are scratched off from making it onto any planned releases. Still great stuff none the less. Loving a1, a3, b1, b3 and b6

    This exactly.

Also am really liking the unsettling vibe that underlies most of the tracks. Feels like walking home at night alone after having smoked too much and looking back over your shoulder to be sure there is no one there.

  10. Finally had a change to give the record a spin. Holy shit, the B Side is filled to the brim with gems. I prefer it much more to the DFN release.

Same here, just got home and checking out now. B side is otherworldy. Love A side as well, especially a5.

That being said, i still don't consider this to be a proper release, but more unfinished tracks. Reminds me of the syrobonkers interview tracks because they are not as layered as say Syro.

Still so grateful to have gotten this. I can't help but feel blessed to live in this day and age, just to be able to witness this music.

    Thank you Richard!!!

Ps: that last track is hypnotising.
