  1. I visited Thailand early 2020, right before the pandemic hit. Food there was amazing, super affordable too. I've tried Thai cooking before visiting there, and it's easy with the curry pastes, but I picked up a few tips from trying it authentic. Most importantly, putting in the veggies last and uncooked. When I ate green curry in Thailand the vegetables were always crispy and fresh, so I've been trying that recently and it's allot better then soggy and overcooked! So I've been trying some fusion dishes, because I like to experiment in the kitchen. I bought a whole bunch of Mae Ploy curry pastes to cook with. Been mixing Aroy-D coconut cream with crushed tomatoes and the result is similar to volkda sauce. I put that in with rotini or penne add some kind of protein and veggies like kale, onions and roasted garlic. *chef kiss* (OT, sorry, was originally going to post in "what're you eating" and saw this thread) Also fried herring.. I buy the salted kind and let it soak overnight, then bread it with a mix of flour and corn starch, making it extra crispy. I usually do the flour, then dip in egg batter, then flour again and into the oil bath. Could beer batter this too, often I don't feel like wasting an IPA. Kewpie mayo is the best for fried fish, it's all yolk. I was going to take some pictures, but I ate it too quick.
  2. I've been playing BoTW, SSB4, & Mario Kart 8 on my PC. Cemu is fantastic once it's configured correctly. It took a while to gather what the best settings were, but it's very, very smooth now. You can even get online on the official Nintendo servers. Still some infrequent Smash emulation issues but I'm sure they'll get fixed soon. It's great way to experience these games and render at higher resolutions. BoTW really needs to be played at 60FPS. It's too bad Nintendo are all about novelty and gimmicks these days with its hardware. Maybe next generation will get a remaster that will release it proper. Getting good on Master mode.. difficult, but the DLC gear (Phantom armor, Majora's mask) make it bearable. Other then that some occasional CoD, usually hardcore Search & Destroy.
  3. How would a global financial system not benefit third world countries if they had access to it? Being born under unfortunate circumstances doesn't make someone inherently incompetent, it just limits their opportunities. That's the whole point, making the world smaller and connecting people together. Like StarLink, giving more people the benefits of the internet and the potential to help themselves learn and network with others, this works financially also. 0.000005 BTC or 500 Sats, not too difficult. Also, I would assume stablecoins might resolve this and the fact that the market is gradually stabilizing itself long term. jest, sarcasm.. Sure some of the people developing cryptocurrencies right now are brilliant and it's fun to pick their nerd brains, but it's not really about that.. it's not a popularity contest if this tech has any utility for the future.
  4. Proof of Stake solves the crypto mining energy crisis. Ethereum is working towards this and Cardano already has it implemented. NFTs aside, virtual currency might have some significant real use cases for the future, developing countries could really benefit from a solid financial system that cryptocurrency has the potential to introduce.
  5. not a bad way for an artist to auction off their work and make some money, so why not? Ergo has this competition going, was thinking about entering and having a go at Processing: https://ergoplatform.org/en/blog/2021-02-12-2000-erg-in-prizes-to-be-won-in-the-ergo-digital-art-competition/
  6. can't embed this one for some reason, it's an interview about AGI: https://youtu.be/OpSmCKe27WE

  8. Saw this today and thought about dreaming again, people able to communicate from their REM sleep state: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/article/lucid-dreaming-communication/ Reminded that I had a really great dream recently. I was being led by a guide into a cove where there were a bunch of surfers riding waves. I caught one and was able to catch incredible air and then made some kind of suborbital free fall back down to the ocean. I did this twice and the second time I landed close to shore, then set up camp on the beach. That was basically it.. flying dreams are amazing. I'll need to try a lucid dreaming app, I don't think I've ever been conscious of the fact during one of mine, or if I did, I woke up almost immediately.
  9. Came here to lament some.. I post occasionally but have lurked watmm for over a decade. Salvatorin was always a distinctive, consistent contributor here and I know he will be missed. I lost a cousin a year ago from overdose and even though I didn't know him very well, it still had an impact on me. And Sophie also.. I felt that she had so much more to offer from her unique perspective and was both angry and saddened about the news of her passing. That autechre remix was a great take on her style of pop. Rest peacefully and safe travels. ?
  10. Discovered Kim Ki-duk died last month from Covid complications. The two films I've seen of his, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring and 3-Iron I liked allot.. rest in peace.
  11. Digging these acid dance tracks, more immediately accessible then his previous work He popped into a TidalCycles chat room not long ago asking questions. Wonder how he'll be incorporating that into his music
  12. Wish I had more to share, I just happened to dig that one up from a bucket of random CDs. Haven't spoken to the guy in a while, probably should have gotten permission to upload.. oh well. It's good stuff, deserves a listen.
  13. Could of, but there were some great shots that I doubt they could have gotten lucky visiting just a few times. He might have had a team though. After finishing Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach Trilogy, I wonder if Alex Garland will ever finish the film series. Allot more to the story than just Annihilation. Probably not though, as he deviated so much from the book: The book expounds much more on what's happening with them and the anomaly of Area X. I can't see how he can deny being influenced by STALKER though, maybe not a tribute, but one of the ending chapters has close similarity to the nut/bolt throwing scene:
  14. Kind of surprised by all the negative reviews. Could of been faked but giving him the benefit of the doubt, I think somebody like that has to be a bit crazy to do what he did, or atleast a dedicated scientist wanting to document the life of an octopus? I interpreted it as him throwing his life into this passion and growing attached to this animal which I don't blame him. But in the end how could he intervene with wild life on natures surf like that? He even questions his actions as if he might have distracted the octopus when it got attacked. It seems to have lived a full life anyway, their lifespans are about two years. I'm not sure what people are expecting, it's not a pet, still a wild animal out there
  15. I read Other Minds: The Octopus, The Sea, and The Deep Origins of Consciousness as recommended here on watmm. Just finished scuba diving in Mexico (the cenotes in Tulum are beautiful if anybody gets the chance), and my dive instructor and another person mentioned to me this recent documentary called My Octopus Teacher. It's incredible, this guy documents a relationship he builds with an octopus in South Africa over the course of its life. These creatures are fascinating and his ability to film the entire thing using just a snorkel and his camera is insane. Highly recommended and a good companion film to that book.
  16. Was rummaging through some old computer games and other miscellaneous disks and found this which was given to me over a decade ago. Still holds up. Decided to upload it:
  17. That's a cool effect. I'd like to maybe capture a video of some complex geometry that morphs around with interesting shaders like that. l check all these things out, thanks ?
  18. Have you tried writing scripts with Python for Blender to create generative art? That's something I've been wanting to explore, but have been too lazy or busy with other stuff. I have about zero knowledge of both right now, but maybe something to study.
  19. So some people were able to decompile the source code for Super Mario 64 and now you can build yourself an OpenGL port: https://github.com/sm64pc/sm64pc Having this running natively on Linux is awesome. Would be interesting to see what mods come out if Nintendo would stop filing lawsuits over everything.
  20. Kindof ticked that I sold my Vive not long ago, then Half Life VR gets announced. They need to do two obvious things though: 1 make it wireless, 2 increase resolution. First person games were meant for this platform, it just needs to evolve a bit more. Other then that I beat Sekiro so I've moved on to Nioh. Also playing Original Sin 2 coop every once in a while.
  21. It is necessary to 'render' some of the final mixes, maxing out u-he plugins in 'divine' high quality mode and being able to use more nested functions in Tidalcycles. check my Soundcloud ?
  22. need to fix the camera on my phone, but these are somewhat clear. usually I'm doing stuff on my laptop, but when I need the faster CPU I use this. it's also my gaming rig when I swap out the Xonar Essence STX for a GTX 1070 mini. i7 6700k, 16GB ram, a few SSDs, dual boot Win10 and Fedora. Silverstone mini-ITX case not pictured: my Sennheiser HD25s
  23. I'm going to keep playing Sekiro. Gameplay is on point and it just feels like a very well made single player game, I think most people that start it will eventually bucker down and complete it. But I get that it is kind of a step back to remove online coop or pvp.. Also it's lost some of the addictive incentives of broad stat building compared to DS and BB.
  24. Google says it's based of freeBSD which /= Linux. My point was that Sony is publishing the game so they are going to keep it exclusive to sell their propriety gaming hardware
