Check out Inch By Inch by Press Charges, I think its a masterpiece, the snap off the drums unreal

Cheers so much, this album is the best thing I've heard in ages. Been listening on repeat. For me the tune "Tighter" was the one that - ahem - really got a hold on me.

  2. Daaaaammn, this is so good, in content and recording quality. Almost soundboard quality, very minimal crowd noise. Incredible.

In case anyone else is as late to this party as I am it's on The Internet Archive but I can't post a link here.

I always thought it was just them. This has maybe been discussed elsewhere on this board. And yes, after listening to London B, I am even more convinced. They probably built some Max patch that does all this insane scratching based on some number flow input. And it would make more sense to put out a one hour jam of this under the Gescom disguise. That jam is killer, loved hearing all these old school samples! And hearing the "fresh" sample in London B gave me a BIG smile!

I've only really started listening to AE_Live 2022 these last few days, my summer was dominated by Ceephax. The 27m-42m section in HELSINKI reminds me of tt1pd, maybe some distant cousin..? The intensity is different, but the fingernails-slidin'-down-the-washboard hats, the insane buzzy synths later on.. Maybe thinking of Autechre in terms of tracks just doesn't make sense anymore.. Even with the albums. Maybe, since at least the 2014/2015 live stuff, it's all just Autechre in it's purest form. This shit is free.... Completely unfettered.

I'm fairly sure Sean confirmed this in twitch stream, he made a machine to do scratching and that's what he used for AMKS. Not sure tho, brain doesn't always brain so well these days.

Sean addressed the AMKS scratch session in the AMA, it was definitely them

OK good to know it's not Mandela effect/early onset dementia

Annoying. Keeps me from buying. Want to be able to hear the whole thing first. So Im forced to hunt down alternative places to listen to the entire thing.

Won't always keep me from buying (like in this case). But even though I have streaming elsewhere I usually prefer to stream on BC. Then if I do it too much I get a reminder that I am a cheapskate and should pay for the music I'm listening to.

I don't agree with most of their ratings, but Pitchfork's rating system itself isn't that weird, just multiply the score by ten and think of it as a percentage. Giving Exai 59% is fucking dismal but one of the things that really gets me is that that their score is based on multiple people who work at the place's opinions but the review is only one person's take. As a result, these don't always match up. Pitchfork is mostly best for their coverage of things like indie rock rather than anything electronic that isn't Cut Copy or Neon Indian, etc.

I'm sure I read (somewhere) that the ratings are added after by editorial staff and are independent of the actual review.

I admit I still check out pitchfork cos often the reviews will throw up good/interesting stuff that I wouldn't hear about otherwise, for example this: https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/noemi-buchi-matter/

I'm gonna have to hard disagree here — The Barbican set (first one, didn't have tickets for second one) was the clearest I've ever heard them. I was sat in the balcony, directly in the middle though so maybe where you sat affected the sound that much.

Can confirm. First set sounded terrible for me, sat somewhere sort of mid-front-left - as described by others, everything swallowed up by bass/kicks. Second set, sat right at the back near the centre sounded in-cred-i-ble.

I know where I'm sitting next time I see music at the Barbican.

even the 14/15 set had big changes: the last ones summarized the original part in 20 minutes, and then expanded in new directions, yet the soundboards came out only when all the material was archived. This makes me think that the same thing will happen with the current set: they will do new dates, with a lot of news, but there will always be a point of contact with the 2022 dates, and the soundboards will be released when they decide to work on a completely new set. However, the Helsinki file has created a historical precedent, and in the wake of this accidental fact, they may come to publish the other dates without the "publish only archived material" orthodoxy

I reckon (pure conjecture here) that they will release some European tour sets similar to Helsinki before any more touring, and use the 2nd London set material as the basis for a future (North America/Japan/elsewhere?) tour. Although I think some sections from near the start of that set popped up on some bootlegs, the bulk did not, and I get the impression that most of the European tour was based around the same material as Helsinki. Which leads me to believe they are saving the material from the 2nd London set for something else.

If I'm right I won't get to relive the 2nd London set anytime soon ?. I really hope I do get to hear that soundboard someday though, it was a real treat.

  8. My immediate response to Chiastic circa ~2001 (when I was first getting into autechre) was "oh this is great" and my opinion never changed much from there.

My response to Confield was "Yeee too much", followed by a 20 year route to being one of my favourite albums ever.

I was going to say that Chiastic is more a shower than a grower, but realised under this metaphor Confield is less the other way round than "Jeez, I'm not sure if that thing is ever going to fit in there".

Chiastic gets my vote. Confield hasn't quite "unfurled" for me yet and I'm not trying to rush it along

it does have some minimal moments.. i mean.. a bunch of their tunes are pretty stripped down aren't they? but i was hung up on how she said 'minimal' for a long time because of her accent and me being a dumb idiot for not stopping walking down the sidewalk and having a conversation about it with her or whatever.

I mean for a random stranger to have any response other than "never heard of them" is pretty unusual on its own tbf

I heard this as a targeted ad on my Instagram feed, best ad targeting I've witnessed.

Maybe not "like" autechre, closer I think in vibe and presumably method to Topdown Dialectic, but some algorithmic composition that is very very nice.

Have been messaging with the artist, friendly solid seeming dude. Sent me a link for a free EP of some alternate album cuts:
