  1. Oh but you do need to grow up keltoi, if you're not man enough to admit key points of your argument have been answered satisfactorily, or that some of what you are saying is spurious trolling that you just won't let go of for fear of being wrong (like how a 35 dollars donation over the course of a year for a place one would spend hundreds of hours at is a fortune, maybe for someone living in a favella in guatamalla, or a mud hut in the hinterlands outside of port au prince. All that has happened is that you don't mentally assign material value to this site. This is like when i go to the supermarket and waste a small fortune on useless crap like cheese or whatever and hardly give the money leaving my wallet a thought, but then when i need a new pair of workshoes i hold off forever and groan at the mere thought of the cost of something that is actually relatively cheap in the scheme of things, that i use everyday, and is actually pretty vital, but it's for work, fucking work, blarh, the monies!! - three dollars a year is fuck all - the fee does put a wall around the place for most miscreant behaviourists. - joyrex has expressed that he is very protective of this site and his reputation so you can cut him some slack for being a little freaked, especially when you keep droning on way past the expiry date of your points in a manner that is snarky and combative - i'm over this thread for a few more days, heh, long may it fall away into forgotten pages past edit - hi fred /waves i accept your points dleet, although "grow up" coming from the guy that chooses to communicate like a texting 10 year old girl is a little bit amusing. you're right though, i'm too old for this shit. sorry stepheng. you swing that purse with pride and don't ever let anyone tell you it's wrong. in my first post here i added a winky smilie (see how grown up i am) and a homer gif suggesting (so i thought) a playful intent. what started as a friendly dig turned into me having to defend where i choose to hang out and the people there. i retaliated and it escalated from there. i never intended to be the spokesman for bdb, fred is clearly the man for that particular job. text isn't the best medium for communication as we all know and i'm not as articulate and reasoned as some. i'm man enough to admit when i'm wrong and i apologise, joyrex. of course i understand you defending your baby. you've explained things satisfactorily and i only wish you'd done so back when i initially queried the donation bar instead of simply making it disappear. you can maybe understand why i leapt to the wrong conclusion.
  2. No, of course not - just is a bit frustrating when supposedly their stance is the freedom to do that, and then they end up not doing that, making their whole complaint to begin with moot. Could have avoided all the conflict to begin with. It's not "their stance" it was just my quick off the cuff explanation of what it is. You banned most of them anyway so your point on their stance is moot.
  3. Man, conversing with you is painful. Why feel the need to be so sanctimonious, condescending and contemptible all the time? I'm 40 years old... I don't appreciate being told that I'm a child and need to grow up. It might be hard to believe but I've only ever been on 2 forums in my life and haven't come across any others featuring in the news or media. Never been on something awful. Not everyone reads Forum Owners Monthly you know. I ask a genuine question and you have to be like that as usual.
  4. Oh, FFS - what do you want, bank records? that should suffice, as long as your accounts are in order. fred started it after you banned him, remember? the point i was making was that you obviously think it's full of trouble makers, perverts and dead beats (and it may be) but there's very little in the way of unsavoury content. btw, i've never heard of people paying for a forum, are there actually forums out there that charge people? can you name some? genuinely curious. seems like you're about to cull your membership for $$$.
  5. Sigh, more petty digs at bdb... All it is is a place for adults to relax and talk freely without reprimand or judgement. You'll notice there's little to no smut, porn, unsavoury content, etc without anything being outlawed. Of course it's slower than here but it's not trying or claiming to be anything like here. If it's not for you that's fine. + btw I'm not sure you've answered my concerns satisfactorily even now but I'm done.
  6. Joyrex how come you're quoting info from bdb if you can't get on it? Talk about petty. I didn't buy that jacket btw.
  7. 35 bucks is a lot of money to a lot of people. You're always waving your purse around here, stepheng.
  8. Yeah, I get that - however, turns out my initial suspicions about why this was brought up were sadly confirmed - I got a rather informative copy/paste from another site where this whole issue is discussed, and of course my reactions are fodder for their amusement.Wtf I didn't make that thread and have no control over anyone there. What I said was honest. You brought the matter up yourself with your questionable version of events but obv didn't appreciate being reminded. Now you're trying to justify your dickishness by bringing up a conversation on another board which happened after everything here? Come on man! My "dickishness"? Really? Please explain how I've been "a dick" in this whole thing? If anyone's been a dick, it's YOU - stirring up shit out of some self-entitled sense of justice, etc. - I have no idea if you made the thread over there or not (nor did I imply/say you did), but your comments in it are very telling to say the least. You didn't create the thread here either, but you obviously felt compelled to chime in and "take me to task" for my "suspicious" behaviour when it comes to financing this place. you came straight in with a dig at what you called "my home from home". you insinuated that i had no right to contribute to this thread and that my intent was to "stir shit up". all of which is overly defensive and reactionary. that's where you were being dickish, and that's why other people chipped in to back me up. if you got a copy/paste of the conversation over there, you'll see the order and the names attached to the conversation. you can go and look yourself, you know where it is. my only comment of any relevance is that the main reason i don't come here anymore is because of the constantly rolling over donation meter and the subsequent ninja-esque removal of it when queried about it. left a bitter taste in my mouth... this, along with your sanitization and monetization of the site, although don't get me wrong, i understand that it's yours to do with what you like so my choice is not to frequent anymore... i questioned your recent explanation because it was not my recollection of events. the donation bar disappeared after i brought it up in the reality check thread. really, you want me (and everyone here) to believe that the software allowed users to enter an amount to donate but it didn't tally and accumulate the running total on the corresponding donation bar? so when someone donated money you just get an email saying "look out! someone's made a donation, please log in to adjust the donation bar 2 notches!"... lol, come on joyrex. i have no problem with you making a hundred bucks a month (sometimes) or whatever it was, but i have a problem with you not announcing that you've met your monthly target (and hitting your target up to 3 times and more in a month) as a result of your users being misled... why would i pm you to bring this to your attention when everyone that's donated deserves to know? maybe instead of making up a story full of holes to cover your tracks, just own up and admit you got it wrong? Joyrex is not lying about the donation bar in my opinion. I emailed him in 2013 because I had donated $35and it wasn't showing on the bar. I asked if he had gotten it. He didn't respond for about a week and then when he answered said he was busy on vacation or something and hadn't been online. As soon as he responded to my email the donation was showing. I'll track down the email and post it if I can find it. When joyrex mentioned that the money often comes from the same generous few and that sometimes the majority was paid by one person, I knew right away it was you and here you are making sure everyone knows how much you donated.
  9. Also btw your ip has only been blocked if you trolled the place by another name. Dunno where you're getting your info.
  10. I accept it appears I was wrong about the bar updating so for that I hold my hands up. You didn't explain this before. However, you still miss the main point... if you were updating it manually and setting it back to zero, mid-month, without announcing that your target was fully paid, do you not see how that could appear dishonest?

  13. i just haven't posted here for a while, it's not like i go around bad mouthing you or this site and i'm not some kind of enemy or threat. it so happens that i felt i had something to contribute to this thread when your "explanation" didn't fit with my recollection... i honestly didn't come back just to stir shit up as you keep saying. next you'll be calling me troll.
  14. cheers manmower... Cocaine is a hell of a drug Seriously though - the meter "rolls over" once the amount is met, so now we're 24% of the way towards next month's hosting costs. In other good news, our hosting company has doubled our HDD space at no extra cost, so I'll be getting the updated Downloads module for the forum and we'll be putting up the Downloads (officially) again, so Chaosmachine won't have to host them anymore. More importantly, we'll have an interface for adding new downloads. The extra space has given me some ideas for EKT as well... then shouldn't it say something like "thank you! we have reached this month's target" or "we are now collecting for next month's fees". in theory, with this set up, it can "roll over" many times in a month and keep indicating that we're way off target, which encourages more donations when you already have your funding... maybe it should stop at 'fully donated' until the change of month, then jump to the new month's donation level? as it is, it's extremely misleading and totally unethical. i'm not blaming you, especially if it's built in to the forum software, but it should definitely be changed in the name of fairness. I see what you're saying... this is the limited free version of the donation meter addon, so perhaps it's time to invest in the "pro" version that has more features (like multiple goals, etc.) - that might allow it to be more clear on what the current month's goal is, versus a long-term goal, etc. Cocaine is a hell of a drug Seriously though - the meter "rolls over" once the amount is met, so now we're 24% of the way towards next month's hosting costs. Perhaps there should be a yearly target as well. I agree that if we contribute we should have some indication of how much is left to be paid, when you have a financial stake there shouldn't be any haziness. As i was under the impression that we were just making enough to get by, perhaps some stats would help bring this home to people that we are really month to month. I do think that all users should contribute something though, regardless of hosting costs and what have you. If every medium to heavy user gave 10 bucks, this place would have plenty penny. I like the idea of a yearly target - the biggest issue with showing a monthly goal (and reaching it) is a lot of people see that and say, "oh, they've got this month covered, I won't bother donating" and then we run into potential deficits. The old donation meter was like that where it said the month being collected for. like i said, all kind of stinky.
  15. Yeah but if I remember correctly, the bar showed until which month enough money had been given for the forum to work - and the bar cleary showed that we were raising money for the month of, let's say, July when we were still in April. Which was clearly a good thing in my opinion. Anyway, sorry to have asked that question about the donation bar nope, that would have been an honest way to do it.
  16. I noticed it and initially kept an eye on it quietly, saw it roll over up to 3 times a month, again and again, so I spoke out back when I still posted here. I dont post much (you already had a pathetic cheap shot at where i choose to hang out for some reason) but I still browse occasionally and read your explanation and thought that smells like bullshit... I posted so that people have an all round view of where they're putting their money. I just don't buy that you had to adjust the bar manually. I also don't have a problem with you making money for your hard work maintaining the site but this doesn't sit well with me. I spent a lot of time here and felt justified to pitch in. If you think I've lost my right to contribute by spending some time elsewhere, then make it so.
  17. Heh, good post, very true. Sometimes I think some of us keep the record industry running lol. I think watmm is essential imo (for me at least) and I would happily pay a sub. But I wouldn't want young forum members to be alienated. I was thinking of donating some money this christmas as Joyrex has worked out of his skin this year. Respect. By the way I was wondering about the donations : there was like a status bar just below the donation box, showing how much money had been given and for how long that money was enough to run WATMM, I thought that was quite good to show people how important it was, maybe you could put it again ? The biggest issue with the status bar is it wasn't interactive - in other words, I had to manually update it every time there was a donation, etc. Additionally, if the bar was sitting at say 10.00 at the end of the month, invariably someone would jump in and make a donation to ensure we met the 50USD (Great!). The problem was, it was the same small group of people who felt it was important enough to ensure we met our hosting costs, while many didn't bother, or on the other end of the spectrum, it was at say 45.00, nobody would chip in the last 5.00 to ensure we made it. It also didn't factor in the VigLink payments, etc., so I ultimately removed it for my own sanity. nothing to do with me pointing out that it was maxing out more than once a month? ;0
  18. 1. North Christian Church, Columbus, Indiana. That dude designed some nice chairs too. 2. ? 3. McCormick Tribune Campus, Illinois Inst. of Technology. BOOM! bravo. hint: Columbus Convention Centre, Columbus, Ohio. (i got this from the image tag, not my architectural knowledge)

  20. Yeah, this is definitely a must watch, loved it! Even more so because I primarily watched it for the Fela Kuti story, but the rest turned out to be even more awesome. Also, "what a drummer! what a cunt!!" should be the catchphrase of the documentary if it should ever be released on DVD. I watched on dvd!
