  1. Yeah. . . I mean, wth. . . I want to believe Shane Black will do Predator justice but nothing seen so far bodes well. . . Lol so weird . . . we recently rewatched BW and then followed up soon thereafter w/ Veronica. . .for a film that was being touted as "SO SCARY PEOPLE CAN'T EVEN FINISH IT!!!" it gave me all the mehs. . .
  2. Yeah, maybe I'm just wrong? Something like "minipops" is a track friends that only dabble in electronic stuff really loved, but I somehow have a really hard time imagine them putting on 1st44 and nodding their head/blasting it in their cars. . . but it's also difficult for me to imagine NOT loving this stuff so maybe I'm over-correcting in my mind . . . I'd say yes mainly because many of my friends didn't get Aphex or was willing to really explore his material until Syro was released, and now a few of them are super fans. I'd imagine similar scenarios played out around the world. Very interesting - nice your m8's caught the Aphex bug!
  3. Here's a random question for you lot while we await high quality leakage (or September 14th, whatever comes first): Do you think Richard gained new fans on the back of Syro? Main reason I ask is, Syro was a relatively (relatively) immediately digestible set of tracks, even for people I would imagine don't necessarily listen to this sort of stuff. This EP is pretty way the fuck far out there, and I wonder if Syro might have helped pave the way for new fans to get into this level of mental ish. (not saying that was planned at all, or in any way - "intent and outcome are rarely coincident")
  4. I've been hesitant to give The Leftovers a chance - worried about Lindelof's capability to follow through on interesting ideas (see end of Lost, Prometheus, etc.). Does the series fulfill its promise? (like, generally - I've stayed pretty far away from spoilers b/c I know the fun of a show like this is NOT knowing too much) It’s perfect imo. I like the darkness of it and the dark humor. It’s definitely a story the viewer is trying to figure out but so are the characters. So it feels right. Good storytelling. Original. Weird. Has lynch like moments. 3 seasons is perfect length for it. Perfect arc. It’s a story that makes me forget the present. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sold. . . thnx m8!

  6. drukqs was my first one asswell and i got that WOW feeling with this one, hope you guys will 2 Yeah m8 - I had a friend who was deep into direction n'such so got introduced to Aphex via Chris Cunningham vids and was peripherally aware of SAWII and RDJ album, but my first "real" Aphex album was Drukqs (got it when it had just dropped). It was also my first real foray into electronic music (beyond ravey stuff like crystal method and whatnot) I remember popping that shit in the car, and the 1/2 punch of Jynweythek Ylow->Vordhosbn just fucking floored me. Remember thinking "oh, shit YES - this is the shit I've been looking for."* Instant, eternal love. Anyway, this is all to say, this EP is givin' me all the feels, in the same way. Like crawling in a desert for miles and miles, and you're so thirsty that you've gotten beyond thirst, like your brain can't even remember what water IS (because to remember would utterly shatter your spirit, given its absence), and you crest a dune and, laid out before you in the glistening sun is a sumptuous oasis, pools of crystal clear water ringed by the most resplendent fruit trees, coconuts, strawberry patches, mangoes, and you slough your weary body to the edge and with your last breathe of effort roll yourself into the pool as the wash of water cascades over your parched skin, spilling into your mouth, exciting every pore of your skin, washing the filth and decay and hurt of so many miles, so many sojourns, until you emerge, cleansed and free, devouring the life-giving nourishment of the bounty of nature that surrounds you, tearing with abandon through this garden of eden, dancing, eyes empty and aghast, to the sounds of god-like music that is coming from around you, in you, through you, the rhythms of planets colliding and the melodies of heaven leaking through the crystal spheres of the sky, until you collapse on your back, sated, refreshed, empty, reborn anew, utterly spent, fully alive. So. Yeah, pretty "wow" for me.
  7. loved Dewey Crowe, his four kidneys skit was sublime but this'll have to do We got the episode w/ the 4 kidney's bit last night. . . holy fucking lol I almost spit my drink out. . .
  8. Good shout^^^ I know this is semi-facetious, but it made me realize that, although I've listened to this about 50x's on headphones, I've yet to listen to it in the car (or on decent speakers). The mixing seems . . . different maybe than other, even recent tracks? Particularly during the "collapse" section I have a hard time tracking what the individual lines are doing (which is probably partly intentional). I think it might be b/c it seems like there are some drukqs-esque things being done, but in a (I think) mostly analogue way (that middle section in particular feels like using hardware in ways that it was never intended to be used). Anyway, thinking this track will open up (even more) on a good system. . .
  9. Just started watching Justified - wife and I are halfway through Season 2, can't stop watching. Compelling as fuck, Timothy Olyphant basically owns this shit (playing, I guess, a variant of his character from Deadwood). Basically, would watch this just to watch TO being a badass, but the show does a great job with creating characters who are shades of gray (even minor characters). Actually, in some way reminds me of the Wire. Tipping point was watching an episode of Hollywood Weapons on Netflix that tested a scene from Justified. That's a good show in it's own right - self-effacing host (ex-sniper) who clearly is just enjoying the job. Premise is he takes famous scenes from Hollywood movies w/ weapons and tests how it would pan out in real life. Sort of like Mythbusters focused solely on weapons - similar tone, lightheartedness, etc.
  10. Yeah! Had the same thought about the Rutterford video when watching this (though, in his case, apparently he did every frame sync by hand - can you friggin' imagine?!!)
  11. Transcription from video (all credit to bridgetocherokee on Reddit who paused who knows how many frames to transcribe this): this track is called collapse by the way coz when the bass bit kicks in and the tempo starts slowing down its like a collapse of sorts I'm gathering visual references at the moment is there any other point cloud or other references you like I should look into nope I don't think so.. I still love ascii visuals also.. surprised it never got used more but maybe it has, i don't get out much.. sure,, I'll look into doing 3d ascii point-cloud cross over maybe when you get up close to the point cloud it's look more like ascii... yeah i see you're doing point-cloud with midi <<yeah i see your point with midi.. but you could just edit tight to the beat manually anyhow can't you? Yeah i could, but with your kind of music, it would take forever With midi files would be instant and tight as f**k What places to include would be relevant in London? deffo the silver box in elephant and castle that'll be one of the focal points in the video,, a bit like the monolith in 2001 collaged within the Cornish stuff anything else in London? nah all crap how about sun on cafe next to Clissold park collage stuff, top yeah.. mad how quickly they add woods stuff in that star wars thing...crazy realistic maybe we should do something with political slant in this video, like how media can manipulate things to make you think oh been getting into simulation theory of late didn't realise a lot of prominent science are now saying the chance we are living in base reality is about 1 billion to one! love it.. simulations in simulations in simulations for ever probably..god is just an ai I don't want to accept it although I agree its feasible,, I'd rather think it ?isnt? all these normal people who watch shit like "Britain's got talent" and such like is the proof it's not a simulation, (cos why would you bother simulating that) or its proof we are living in a failed simulation i cant see why it would be a problem accepting, i quite like the idea I think thats what i hate the most about it,, that it opens the gate for creationism interpretation yeah well science is not much better, can't explain how life started or what was before big bang and loads of other stuff just evolution and even that has gaping holes was just chomping on a peanut butter toast with Swedish jam.. thinking the idea that code i.e. us can imagine something is pretty wild code re-writing itself and envisaging the future re-writing of itself this obviously applies to any act of imagination: imagination>making something>then observing it then re-writes ?the future version of itself? as you watch/experience what you made and then repeats if you do it again. man what kind of jam was that? sounds like it was fermented or something to give this inspiration and that tip, I've been well into Almond butter and manuka honey lately anyway was thinking if was all a sim,, the technology would be so advanced its probably beyond code ,,, like many levels steps further analogue-digital- like some semi organic technology like in Existenz..
  12. I think . . . I think the extremely low quality bitrate and mono does an extreme disservice to this track. I still played it like 23 times last night, but lament I didn't have more self-control. Now that version of the song is getting embedded in my brain wrinkles. Anyway, that's just to say: people who have held out waiting for the official video (or rushed to judge on the basis of what's out) - continue to hold off/take a break and come back when it's in full quality. Suspect it will make a not insignificant difference.
  13. Thanks for saving me the 1hr on this one. Have been on the fence since I saw this pop up on Netflix, but this (probably 100% accurate) description makes it sound like the worst found footage horror film ever made. *watches next two episodes of Justified instead*
  14. Oh maaaaaaan. Oh well. Just dreaming, but what if this was a full-on Aphex/Cunningham collaboration and the EP goes with a set of videos all directed by Cunningham (like, the "Collapse Project"). Someone noted that chriscunninghamstudios website is down currently. . .
  15. Trico, proudly displaying his utter decimation of the money tree in our livingroom.
  16. Thanks for reminding me of this! Did you ever see their film "Spring"? It's highly divisive (as I imagine this one will be), but I found myself incredibly, deeply moved by it.
  17. Lol, basically you summed up all the problems with the book (well, except the Shining stuff - that's unique to the movie) - funny thing is, the movie actually improves on all these aspects (but, yeah, still ends up a confusing muddle). That being said, I enjoyed it - probably b/c I went in knowing all of the inherent issues with source material. Plus, say what you want, but Spielberg is a more than capable director. The action scenes in particular are some of the most coherent, well carried off spectacles (even when 10 bazillion things are happening all at once I had 0 issue tracking what was going on).
  18. This is brilliant. All my future movie reviews will no longer be rated out of 10 but, rather, "X/Zaphod Reviews" because you, literally, couldn't make a movie as genius as this commentary. Hats off. Please go see more terrible movies and review so a)I can be sure to avoid them and b)somehow still derive enjoyment out of them.
  19. Yeah, 100% with you on this. I had the same experience with Lost Highway (which I hold to be one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen) - people were laughing at times that seemed utterly incongruous with what I was experiencing. It really is subjective - and I think (even for myself) a different day/mindframe could totally change the experience. I'm very glad you enjoyed it - I feel like it's one of those things that either clicks or doesn't - and when it does, it's gotta be incredibly compelling. . . actually makes me think a little bit about The Shining (which I suspect had a similar divide). @Gocab - I know you're being somewhat facetious but there are definitely certain things that probably benefit from being in the theater. If this movie sounds up your alley, I would wholeheartedly recommend watching it on the big screen (even though I didn't prefer it). Horror is best when it's large and looming, and you can't press pause or open the curtains or escape to the kitchen for a snack.
  20. Crap. I'm going to get so much hate for this but, god, I really, really disliked it. It's very strange - all the elements for what should be an amazeballs horror film are there: great acting, great direction, sound design was impeccable, intricate plot that doesn't spoon feed the audience, etc. But. . . yeah, I almost fell asleep. Two people next to my wife and I left the theater about halfway through, and I found myself insanely jealous of them after the movie was over. My initial thought upon leaving was: "that film would have been the most terrifying horror film ever if David Lynch had directed it" My second thought was: "Should I ask for my money back?" -sideways 8 Lynch's/10 *prepares flameshield*
