  1. (album cover taken from the music video below) We Are The Music Makers | Volume One by Various Hey everyone! I have a new EP coming out May 14th called "Chill Tracks Vol. 4". It's five tracks of mostly IDM and synth-pop kind stuff, including the song "Glassy", which I made a silly little music video for: Fans of Syro-era Aphex might like the song "Dec 2023", and fans of BOC might like "Slow Grind", so I'm looking forward to releasing those songs as well once May 14th rolls around!
  2. lol, ok i had to do one more: link 3 really happy with my prompt on this one
  3. oh, for sure. the refined product will be mind-blowing for musicians and music listeners. we're on the cusp of a huge shift in music (and culture and art as well, of course). i do think it's a hilarious tool for joking around with your friends. link 1 / link 2
  4. oh, it's definitely not as good. i kinda want to train my ear to be able to recognize sonu, kinda like how you can recognize midjourney and chat gpt in different images or writings.
  5. I just discovered this software the other day, it's honestly insane how good it is at generating music. I was able to get it to pump out quite a bit of vaporwave, lo-fi hip hop, and ambient tracks without much trouble: link Obviously this isn't really that new or surprising, this has been coming for a while, but I'm blown away at how good it is at what it does. Anybody here have any thoughts on what this means for music and music listeners? Seems like it could be good for music in the sense that this will push artists to be less formulaic and more experimental or adventurous in their creativity, but it could hurt the bottom line for a lot of musicians for hire and help contribute to the corporate-approved nature of pop culture. Pretty soon, we'll have tools like this integrated inside DAWs, so you could easily incorporate this into your workflow sometime soon. Some of the songs I prompted under the IDM tag were pretty interesting, and I may build upon them as an experiment to hear how that turns out. So, while this will cause a lot of problems, I think real artists are going to use these tools in truly exciting ways. Do you think that would take away from your enjoyment of the piece at that point?
  6. i wanted to make some kind of lo-fi house track, so here it is
  7. i'm curious about your workflow. could you talk a bit on what you did with this track?
  8. We Are The Music Makers | Volume One by Various here's a few recent ambient tracks of mine that i think work nicely together as a release. i used a variety of methods for experimentation, so i'm curious to hear any feedback. check it out!
  9. this is a very rough draft and rough mix, but i think this jam has its moments.
  10. the bones of this one are good, i think, but it needs some more finishing touches, IMO
  11. lol, that's basically what i made the track for, so reading this made me very happy, thank you.
  12. here's another experimental track. i think this one is pretty interesting with how it morphs and changes throughout the song.
  13. i'm curious what people here think of this one. some people might think it's weird or whatever, but i kinda love it and think it's beautiful. i like how it's murky, shifting, glimmering, ascending and descending. here's a similar track: i'm probably going to make some kind of ambient release, maybe even trying out putting this stuff on cassette, who knows.
  14. Probably still a work in progress, but I like how this turned out. Been trying to get back to making cerebral / emotional acid bangers, and I think this is a good start. edit: i ended up working on the track a bit more, so here's a later edit: really feel like i hit a home run on this one, at least in terms of what i was trying to accomplish. i want to make a serious long form album of stuff like this to make an attempt at a "proper" release with some kind of strategic marketing, etc.
  15. wanted to make something dancey and fun, and i think this worked out pretty good.
  16. got it. i think i may have been a little sensitive because i don't have much money either. all good.
  17. i'm not sure how sarcastic you're being here, but i work hard and don't have many expenses, so i was able to buy the octatrack after a long time saving and working a lot. i know the meme about expensive equipment, but the reality is that i have been doing this for 15 years, so now that i'm in my mid-thirties, i felt completely reasonable buying something that would improve my creative works (for years to come).
  18. Thanks!! It definitely took a while to understand the Octatrack, but I've been mucking about with grooveboxes and this kind of stuff for a while now. Honestly, once I understood the system and the lingo, it quickly became loads of fun to play--much more than any other live setup I've worked with in the past. It's funny how opaque the process for making electronic music can be from another musician's perspective. In listening to your stuff, I'm very intrigued by the textures and sounds you're able to achieve, and while I have my own educated guesses on how you achieve your sounds, they're still just guesses!
  19. Playing around with some dnb on my Octatrack, and I think this work in progress is coming along nicely!
