  1. "us guys" is the first issue of the OP, but certainly not the last. Do you really want this place to be nothing but men? The irony is how closely this aligns to 3rd wave feminist principles of women being potentially put on a pedestal by a patriarchal system, but not for the work they do, but rather for base sexual desires. The way to fix this is to get an environment where there aren't gendered imbalances to begin with. There's a whole lot to be done on that front.
  2. Clouds of Sils Maria Binoche is great, as always (the list of directors she's worked with might be the most impressive I've seen). On that note, there's not a bad performance in this film (I'm not huge on the character Chloe Grace Moretz plays but she did as good as anyone could with the role). There's a lot of ham-fisted takes on generation gaps with the ultimate attempt at a one-sided acceptance unearned. Kristen Stewart is also great in this film. There is something so effective with her performance that shows how a relationship that's not romantic at all can have the same tensions and intimacies. As well, the cloud sequence is as pretty and indulgent as you'd want. Now I'm even more curious about the time-lapsed cloud shot in Herzog's "Heart of Glass".
  3. Wintertime so this will be getting a lot of burn on the TB system:
  4. Samuel Fuller's "The Steel Helmet". Tarantino's got some shitty influences.
  5. Ken Russell's "Mahler". I used that image as a Mixcloud icon once. For all Mankind?
  6. Showing a little love for Stratego. Love that game.
  7. This might be the most meta-IDM thing ever Does anyone have the recording someone from Australia did reading a plant review of an old The Flashbulb record? I opened and closed an old dubstep mix with snippets from it. Lost the full recording and would love to get that back for laughs. Here's the mix if you want to hear what I'm talking about:
  8. This is exactly what came to mind for me. Also, I really like the way Andy Stott treats 909 hi hats.
  9. This is a great lecture detailing the birth of FM synthesis from one of the DX7 patch designers. (yeah the volume is super low, still worth it)
  10. The Computer Music Tutorial by Curtis Roads. There is supposedly a 2nd edition coming out, which is so awesome if true.
  11. First off: Apologies for the sharpness of that post. Not a good day for me yesterday and it was inappropriately reflected there. Also, apologies to @Nebraska, my observation here should have stayed my own. Per-what I meant. I've seen several posts from you marginalizing Nebraska's posts and views on films solely due to the fact that they often comment on exploitation films in this thread. I've seen you do this multiple times, and have always found it flippant and unsubstantiated. Furthermore, I prefer to see content that I may not be familiar with, rather than films which I could find discourse about easily throughout the internet. Nebraska is certainly referencing more unfamiliar content to me. As a result, I bristle at anyone trying to shame that. This is a great thread that discusses a pretty wide spectrum of film. I want it to stay that way.
  12. Winchell's > all other chain donut shops
  13. I was mean to poseur kids who got really into the Beatles around the time of the Anthology series in the 90's. I don't regret it.
  14. They're intended for transport controls and numeric data entry/preset recalls. 14 of them can be reassigned as a cc or note. Any control (button, knob, fader) can let you set minimum/maximum values.
  15. From that pic alone, bet Malick loved it. (but obv. not as much as Jayden Smith and Cara Delevingne) haha Photek did the music for it
  16. Unfortunately Bastl only did 1 limited run on these: https://bastl-instruments.com/instruments/60knobs#diy I swear by my Evolution uc-33a
  17. Yeah flash memory saves everything else. Just the MIDI channel. You're probably right, just a quirk in the device. Sucks 'cause Roland/Boss rarely fix those. edit: Ok, so above, can all be disregarded hahaha. I just turned it on and it was saved now. I am baffled as to what I could have done differently to get it to work this time. Yay user error!
  18. Got a Boss RC-505, it's awesome. However I keep running into a single thing that is driving me insane. Anyone know how to make the thing save the MIDI channel if you change it in settings? It defaults to 1 every time I turn it on (want it at 13). I change it, his write, save it to both the preset and userset. Next time I turn it on, it's back at channel 1.
  19. ^ Well put on the 0-Coast
  20. Herr Hainbach has collaborated on an iOS app with Bram Bos (one of the best app developers) to make a Gauss-inspired tape looper for iOS https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gauss-field-looper/id1530684073 Very cool
  21. Got the World at War set. I have officially become one of those people who is physically repulsed when an aspect ratio is manipulated from the original intention for viewing (some filmmakers like Kubrick shot in ways that provided flexibility but most don't). Academy ratio is ok! If it was shot that way, leave it that way!
