  1. ah i thought u meant someone involved in the doc... Ha, nah I already hated Varg so didn't need the doc for that. With that said, I had never heard of Frost before the doc (not a big Black Metal fan), and thought the guy was a completely full of shit charlatan after an initial watch. I then go and look him up online and see his prowess as a drummer. That totally changed my view of him in the doc. I went from thinking he was just your average empty exhibitionist, to an exhibitionist who was willing to take major risks that could hinder his talents as a drummer, just for a momentary performance. Not sure respect is the right way to describe it, but I was far less critical of the actions.
  2. who are u talking about? who's smarmy and bitter? Ah yes, thanks for the title correction. And I was referring to Jonas Åkerlund.
  3. His portfolio is awful. edit: And Spun is one of the dumbest films I've ever seen. But a serious question, if I've seen Before the Light Takes Us, am I getting anything other than a smarmy and bitter "I WAS THERE, MAN!" manifesto of someone who never made it in that scene?

  5. Criterion finally announced they're putting out Bruno Dumont's first 2 films (La Vie de Jesus, L'Humanite). Been waiting years for this. *keeps fingers crossed for an eventual release of Hors Satan on Blu-Ray with English subs*
  6. I have a 1640i and a couple of the channels are starting to get a bit noisy, which is quite irritating. Other than that, big fan of the mixer. The EQ's don't quite have that filter sweep capability a Soundcraft can get but they're nice for quick removal of unwanted frequencies. I use a lot of patchbays to make it as flexible as possible.
  7. Went and saw Ceylan's The Wild Pear Tree last night. Not sure anyone can shoot a rural landscape better than Ceylan, but there are few worse as far as dialogue and narrative structuring. Bloodless, unfocused, and rather misogynistic for no discernible reason.
  8. One of my all-time favorite scenes in a film. Everything about it is perfect. I am amazed Eisenstein got to finish/release Pt. 2 after this (it's not the most subtle analogy to Stalin at the time).
  9. Maybe you have another interface that can work in tandem via-ADAT?
  10. Knew nothing about this and then find out this *isn't* a remake of the Stuart Cooper film. Had it been a remake, that would have been bad enough...but this looks like its even worse.
  11. I hated Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! so much. The reverence for Almodovar never ceases to baffle me. Long-form Loreal commercials with specious empowerment themes. A good sense for lighting alone should not afford such accolades.
  12. Lots of iOS apps adding MPE support if you want to go that route (Volt Synth, Spacecraft which is a really neat granular app, Animoog, Quanta, etc.)
  13. My radio show from Friday is all film music, check it out! https://forum.watmm.com/topic/95058-very-old-member-idi-amin-new-mixes/?do=findComment&comment=2695998

  15. bump, folks should check part 2 if you want a change of pace from the normal style of my mixes
  16. Legrand also worked with Davis on Elevator to the Gallows (typically isn't credited, but he was involved). So yeah, pedantic but could be from either.
  17. The movie this is for (Louis Malle's "Elevator to the Gallows") is great, btw. (edit: it may actually be for the "Legrand Jazz" album but that's all a bit of a time blur)
  18. Interesting point about Brakage. My go to is usually Ae's 'see on see' soundtracking The Dante Quartet, but you're right about visual rhythm. I recently showed Rage Net to a group of high school students and they got it, had interesting things to say about how the rhythms, color, and composition are evocative of the subjective experience of rage, the gropings for a reasonable explanation to calm down and then the next eruption of irrational emotional reaction. We were doing a lesson on the early days of film and I self-indulgently brought Brakage in after showing the colorized version of Melies' Trip to the Moon and talking about how each frame was hand-painted, but it paid off fortunately. This is awesome! That's the coolest high school class I've ever heard of. Probably not age-appropriate, but 23rd Psalm Branch is quite the companion to Rage Net
  19. Get ready for an adventure: http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000.htm
  20. Thus begins Savannah Guthrie's long but inevitable journey to become the modern day Anita Bryant. And the angle that somehow Black Hebrew Israelites were the real catalyst for all this is one of the dumbest things I've heard this week. Should be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard but we're in uncharted waters with Trump where new precedents are set almost daily.
  21. That's a very interesting comparison and one I'd never thought of before. I know Bertolucci and Storaro have both spoke at length on this film, yet I've never checked any of it. Need to do so. One of the most visually stunning films, esp. with the color choices. And Dominque Sanda... Bertolucci's career is fascinating. A ton of terrible films (and a couple good ones) that also happen to have fascinating premises and ambitious production values. 1900 is an awful film but it's totally worth a watch nonetheless. Tonino Guerra's fever dream (I'd have rather seen Pontecorvo direct it but that was never gonna happen).
