inflation is not rising, it is coming down. inflation was a global consequence of the pandemic and USA under biden has been recovering well.

I'd say historical graphs showing annual rises/falls don't matter to the average red hat wearing citizen. they look at how prices are today, this week, etc., and make their Biden good vs bad determination based on this. gas is expensive. meat's expensive. mortgage rates still high. Biden's fault. shit like this. they don't take geopolitical factors like Israel vs Iran affecting gas prices into account because they pay more for gas and that's all Biden's fault!

inflation also looks to be up down up down up down depending on the week right now - https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/13/surging-inflation-fears-sent-markets-tumbling-and-fed-officials-scrambling.html

that's awesome that you're engaging with people like that. it's not easy but those difficult conversations are a necessary part of the way out of this mess.

lol I have no choice to engage with them. I don't get into a debate tho as it's not my style. a lot of people I deal with for work are between Arizona to Mississippi - hardly pro-Biden states. I probably run into more T supporters than Biden out in the wild.

buy yeah... the end goal here should be to try and get more people to fall off the trump train. sadly this is not as easy as it should be. why tf anyone supports him is beyond reason.

taking unemployment from 10% to 3.5%. inflation is currently at 3% which is roughly normal, biden brought it down after trump helped ratfuck covid, contributing to the global inflation that countries around the world experienced. cranking the GDP and job creation, continually. these are significant accomplishments that surely his team was involved in but also i don't think you can take them away from him as though they occurred despite him. they were a result of his administration.

I agree with the assessment that Biden and his administration have been good for the GDP and job creation. but we know a large chunk of people vote on what effects them personally - and the rising inflation isn't helping Biden - since voters will blame him for it. GDP is good for businesses, but high food/gas prices are what the majority of the voting population are more concerned with.

I've heard from T supporters that they're voting for him because "he's good for the economy." there is some truth to that, if you consider 2017-2019 data linked in the article below:

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-biden-economy-gdp-wages-inflation/

my response to them when they say that is along the lines of well look at the economy now under Biden - do you think this is somehow bad? look at the stock market if you need proof, since that's probably the quickest/easiest way to understand economic health.

covid was an anomaly that effected global economies, not just US. Trump could be seen as the unfortunate guy sitting in the white house at the time, and the economic shit storm that it caused was not of his doing. yes Trump's handling of it here was a disaster, but since covid is gone from the news cycle, many voters I don't think really care about who or how it wound down exactly.

you know I'm largely playing devil's advocate here... I will not be voting for Trump. but I also want to remind you that Biden is not some white knight that has been a home run for the entire country. I still don't understand why the democrats cannot find someone other than him within their party that has broader appeal. they should be focusing on creating Obama 2.0 if you ask me.

  3. I'm a few episodes into this new adaptation of Talented Mr. Ripley -

    spacer.png

film noir fans take note - this is beautifully shot. I haven't seen the Matt Damon version in ages, so I forget a lot of the details about the story. this version goes into extra detail on everything, maybe a little too much that is slows down the plot a bit. the actor playing Ripley is excellent.

plunging into total darkness is pretty much the only thing that can bring the U.S together these days

ironic I know... if only more of these events happened lol

in the "it'd be nice" category - it'd be nice if celestial occurrences like this would make people think more on the fact that we humans are all just evolved animals living together on this big rock floating through space. religion / cultures / politics - all of it is moot in the long term, since the flow of the universe dictates the wave we're all riding known as reality...but yeah, now this eclipse thingy is moving out of the news cycle, the collective we in this country can all get back to disagreeing over man-made bullshit systems that were invented a long time ago in order to keep the peasants from revolting against the few who think they are actually in control of the way things are.

bunch of places in TX did this too. they even cancelled schools today for the eclipse, worried about afternoon eclipse tourist traffic. hotels jacked up their rates. local news going crazy talking about it non-stop...so much HYPE that gets everyone riled up for nothing. they forgot about clouds tho. it's cloudy here today.

You don't have shit to say about the 2022 negotiations in Istanbul and how this whole thing could have been avoided.

this whole thing could've been avoided if Russia had NOT sent their military into Ukraine and started indiscriminately massacring civilians and destroying infrastructure. all in the name of a BS false flag "de-nazify" operation. or Nato involvement. or land. I can't remember which story they used to justify this...remember that Vlad was given BS intel by his yes men that they'd be welcomed with open arms, and the whole thing would be over by the weekend. Russia could have very easily backed off once they realized this wasn't the case, but due to Vlad's massive ego, had to keep marching on, killing more people in order to save face (and he would've more than likely been assassinated if he backed off so soon).

ask yourself the basic question- who's fault is this exactly? is Ukraine to blame for Russians coming into their country and killing their people? did Ukrainians somehow deserve this? if you believe that is the case, i.e. there is justification for one country's military to go into another and start killing people (civilians!) and blowing shit up, then brother, you are wrong...

war is wrong, period. killing people is wrong. any arguments in defense of killing others are wrong. delusional human beings believe they have a reason for killing others. Putin is definitely one of those.

and I wouldn't rest your laurels on that 2022 Turkey negotiation meeting. depending on what website article you look at - western media or pro-Russia - both sides may/may not have been at fault for not coming to a ceasefire pact. Ukraine blames Russia for sending low-level delegates with no authority to end the war to the talks, and Russia blames Ukraine for not accepting their home run of a deal. if you ask me, just more grey area bullshit that causes people to not accept the truth of the matter...classic Russian tactics. "could be this, could be that" is the grey area psychological zone that has been drilled into the heads of the Russian people for a hundred plus years. manipulate and brainwash the population in order to control. can't let them know the truth about what is really going on.

trump knows what he is doing and he is continuing to do it. the uprising he pushes fantasies about won't happen but some small amount of idiots may end up killing people needlessly.

I'd imagine there will be deaths related to the outcome of this election no matter who wins. violent protests, police clashes either way...with the level of societal chaos and domestic terrorism threat that swirls around him, I'm surprised some special op lone gunman hasn't tried to take him out by now.

i don’t think i’ve seen anything from Coogler but anyone other than Carter is probably a good idea. he was great in some ways but obv not the best at other things so letting the idea of an X-Files be taken on by another’s vision is potentially good, at least.

i’ve still never watched the S10+ reboot stuff, trailers looked bad and i heard 90% bad reviews so didn’t want to even try.

Carter of course came up with the idea for the show, largely influenced by '70s B-horror TV show Kolchak Night Stalker. he also lucked out finding some very gifted writers/directors early on (Howard Gordon, James Wong, Vince Gilligan, Frank Spotnitz). and obviously Duchovny & Gillian Anderson nailed it... but IMO, Carter didn't have much in the way of talent outside of that. the eps he wrote/directed weren't as good as the others, and the shows he launched thanks to his X-files fame all tanked.

they need to leave the show alone at this point. it was a mid '90s gem that has been rebooted twice with horrible results. the story line has run its course. but that's not the way the money machine operates... I also don't know Coogler, but an easy comparison point would be what Jordan Peele did with the recent 4th or 5th reboot of Twilight Zone, which was absolute garbage. and then there's the subpar track record in terms of quality for all TV reboots in general. not a good omen.

of the S10/S11 eps, I remember there were probably 1-2 decent ones each season. the "funny" eps I remember were p good, largely because they brought back Darin Morgan to write those. he wrote some of the '90s classics like Jose Chung's from outer space (the one with Alex Trebek) and Clyde Bruckman's Final repose. incredible stuff.

I did find this more recent somewhat relevant article. was announced last year the powers that be are in fact trying to reboot it, sans Chris Carter:

  10. lol this is the same CIA that has gone on record saying they were forced to withhold sensitive information from trump because of what a threat to national security he is. creating "bogus" internet persona's to try and somehow undermine the Chinese govt. sounds exactly like some sort of scooby doo kindergartner chewing on crayons low ball shit the CIA would actually feel comfortable letting trump claim as his op. the adults need to let him wear the big boys pants every so often.

just got this one. I was pretty sceptic at first due to the big font size and the abstract writing but I like it a lot actually.

I'm also a fan. I like reading a few "chapters" every so often in between other things I'm reading. he's great at pointing out really obvious stuff most of us probably have a good idea of, but have difficulty articulating about the creative process. it actually inspired me to start recording music again, as opposed to constantly noodling about.

  12. Deep Sky. documentary on the JWST. saw it in IMAX and found it quite emotional. starts off with a history of the project, short interview clips with the scientists who helped make it possible. then it launches into those incredible magical images from the telescope itself, displayed in all the glory of IMAX...I'm just sitting there like

biden didn't run after obama left. deferring to hillary. i think he even said something like "it was her turn" but at the time he and lot's of people thought he could've won easily over the orange one. so it goes. well known story now.

but the republicans have no one in the wings waiting either. there's a lack of 'young stars' in both parties.. at least people who could run for president and appeal to the masses.

my bad on saying O replacement planning. after hillary went down is what I was thinking.

anyway like you said, the lack of young blood in both parties is worrisome. that's why we got who we got right now. 70/80 year olds who both are from generations past. this is not the direction I think the political leaders in this country should be heading. but there are no worthwhile alternatives. old dudes lead to voter turn off and apathy. that is, of course, unless you're a maga cretin, who wants the country to go back to white bread evangelical tent revival segregationist bullshit.

It seems like democrats are doing the same thing now, but in different ways. I honestly do not understand why the did not just pick different candidates to run against Trump. They decided for god knows why to just try and jam Biden down everyone's throat.

yeah one thing I never quite got was how they ended up with old man joe. he was obv chomping at the bit to jump in the ring, since he's a career politician, Obama's #2, and all that. but ffs...was there no one else semi-competent in the dem sphere ready to step up? I would think the democratic party could have had better O replacement game planning. IMO it's entirely their fault we are at this neck and neck BS with Biden and orange dickwad.

that's what is so depressing about all this...and by all this I mean looking at a T comeback. the dems, a.k.a the other party not tied to a racist con man piece of shit, can't get a decent candidate that would actually be able to swing the swing states. fuckin grandpa Joe is a throw back old guy. and a lot of people out there don't want that. so that says to me that anyone still semi youthful in the dem team doesn't want to become US pres, because of how shit show'd the oval office has been reduced to, partly thanks to donald and the current state of things all political...

the dems are looking weak. R's are a party of racist ego maniacal insane buffoons. this is what we have to choose from this election. it's like humans just never learn from their mistakes over and over again, and we are getting dumber at this governance shit.

How can humans be so full of hatred and utter apathy.

a lot of it stems from judgmental belief systems forced into their heads by their parents since they were kids. once those beliefs are baked in and turned into undeniable truths, it's really hard to ever see things in a different light. and I mean not just these humans in the middle east, but all over.

This world is going down the shitter, isn't it. All downhill from here. A sad fucking shitshow.

it's been going down the shitter for thousands of years because of humans. a quick browse through history shows how horrible groups of people have been to each other when they don't agree on something. now we have the unfortunate luxury of witnessing it all in real time thanks to internet / phones / media.

that's it man. try and spread positivity in your daily interactions and relationships. helps to keep in mind there's a lot of stuff in the world you can't control. a lot of bad out there, this is fact. but you can control your own head space and actions. best to focus on that before trying to throw the weight of the world on your shoulders.

    televised RICO trial

fingers crossed this does not happen. the last thing anyone needs is him getting more TV time. him being on a televised trial will only gain him more supporters. you'd think it would work oppositely, but logical thinking is persona non grata in the T world.

  18. I posted some similar pics awhile back, thought these qualified as interesting things...

these are taken from inside of a rail car. reminded me of some weird visuals you'd probably see flashed up on screen at a squarepusher show or somthin. black substance lining the walls and pooled at the bottom is asphalt.

she at least came off as sane, which is rare these days in the R party.

now the in-house challengers are out of the way, the R's can all hail the orange clown. rally round the king of the con. the shredder of sanity. the reality star guru, who can barely answer a simple question. donnie boy just drifts merrily along, following the dao of some primal snake oil instinct. he accidentally became president. it was done half-jokingly. the result was he pulled off the biggest grift the world has ever seen. can he do it again? will grandpa Joe stroke out before November? will donnie be in jail? lmao! stay tuned!

oh yeah. someone should probably change the thread title to 2024 US train wreck / dumpster fire / shit show / clown car / dude I'm so high right now / Jesus fucking christ / resurrection / erection / election
