  1. that's when he came to Houston in 1989 https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/shows/houston-matters/2020/02/21/361467/boris-yelstins-1989-visit-to-a-houston-grocery-store-is-now-an-opera/
  2. don't you member? electronic music killed guitar rock in late '90s.
  3. yeah. a lot of immorality in politics throughout the ages. but regarding the mental competency thing I was mentioning, the trump era really did open up the flood gates for legit crazy people to enter into politics. more or less legitimized elected officials getting away with acting like spoiled brat assholes. they used to at least try and hide it before. now they flaunt it, all to try and own the other side. I think if there was a way to weed the crazies out before they even have the chance to run for office, then this would make total sense. but this would also mean the politicians have to start policing themselves. and they know that if there were mental competency tests, or psychological assessments, so many of them would not pass. the age thing too. if 70 years old were the cut off, then bye bye to a lot of them. including Grandpa Joe. they all want to keep hanging on. the man's a walking corpse
  4. this is true. economics are a big part. the unofficial retirement age of 67 doesn't seem to apply as much anymore in the work force. there's also the fact that technological advancements in health care & medicine have kept boomers going mentally and physically more so than previous generations. a lot of folks in their 70's look and act a lot younger than their parents or grandparents generation. but politicians are public servants making decisions that can have massive impacts on the population. and for that I think it is wise to have them retire at a certain point, and not have 90 year olds serving as president or in Congress. I also think there should be mental competency tests implemented for politicians, just the same way they are given to a private sector executive level position. if a person wants to get a job as some executive at a company, they are put through some serious interviews and testing to make sure they aren't going to make stupid decisions that could have major financial impact. but politicians? as we've seen in the past 10-15 years, you can be completely and totally old or insane, and still become a congressman, or president! the founding fathers didn't game plan out that one day humans would all be addicted to internet devices in their hands, feeding their heads with social media bullshit. this IMO has led to the current low brow political shit show we are sadly all too familiar with.
  5. The Americans is pure gold. one of those modern drama shows up there with the best of them, like Breaking Bad or Sopranos. hardly a drop in quality throughout the 6 seasons.
  6. lol wut you probably know that the majority on here are going to vote for him this November, because we have no other fucking choice. the joking on here is not going to sway anyone into voting for the orange shit stain. same with Jon Stewart, or anyone else making fun of the obvious low hanging fruit - that Biden's a pretty old dude to be president. it is factual that once a human passes oh about 80 years old, they begin to decline mentally. it's not just Biden though, it's all the old fuckers in US politics. they are hanging on way too long. this is a legit issue. why can't they step down and pass the torch to the next generation, use their stature and experience as an opportunity to mentor the younger crop?
  7. ha I finally picked up watching Bosch again. I stopped after S1 because it sucked. I recently got through season 2, which I thought was great! I just started S3 and oh no, it seems to have retreated back into the shit quality of S1. I see you say it picks up again in S4. I hope I can make it through to that.
  8. what about penis size? they on the hunt for sweatpants boner *doesn't jot it down*
  9. they prefer smart, confident, witty, friendly, down-to-earth, genuinely positive gay men, over insecure, juvenile, smug, self-assured, slightly depressed straight men, who can't figure out a way to get their mental shit together.
  10. yeah the irony of the whole thing is he claims that the liberal media are a bunch of evil propagandists, when that is in fact exactly what Tucker Carlson is. he is not a legit journalist at all. this whole exercise is a gazillion percent propaganda piece. and I read that western media journalists have all tried to get interviews with Vlad since 2022, and it's a consistent nyet from the Kremlin. but a pro-propagandist puppet like Tucker shows up, and it's no problem! this should tell everyone in the world something. Russian media is the equivalent of Tucker Carlson.
  11. it's just sad that so many red hatted people in this country will watch that, and totally buy into it. Russia good! Ukraine bad! and this will no doubt pressure the R's in congress to back away from any Ukraine aid packages, playing into exactly what vlad wants. why can't these R idiots see this! or they see it, and explain away their pro-Russia behavior because king donald says so
  12. I haven't watched any of S4 yet (will wait to binge it), but I too thought it was bad form for him to sorta bash the show he was responsible for creating. I think Nic got dropped from input on TD more or less after S2 sucked, and probably is still butthurt about it. I think he is a bit of a one hit wonder, tbh. he had a peak creativity moment with coming up with the idea for S1, then slowly fizzled. I, like everyone, was a huge fan of S1. after watching that I read his short story collection and Galveston novel (the movie was totally botched), which were ok, not TD S1 amazing or anything. then he more or less had a misfire on S2. I thought that season started strong, but got too muddled/confusing after a few episodes in. the writing was all over the map. the one missing ingredient S2 lacked was Cary Joji Fukunaga, who directed all S1 episodes. apparently he and Pizzolatto didn't get along, so he left after S1. so I'd say he was probably a massive part of what made S1 so great, maybe more than Nic. the official ranking is S1 > S3 > S2
  13. looks like we're soon going to be treated to a huge word salad of anti-Ukrainian propagandist bullshit from Vlad, thanks to America's #1 patriot Tucker handing a delusional murderous dictator a golden megaphone: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/06/world/europe/tucker-carlson-putin.html
  14. any noticeable effects? less worrying about everything? you spelled it wrong haha I was reading on npr that this is a thing - https://nofap.com
  15. the good news is that pretty much all of these over priced, over hyped tech gadgets rolled out at a retail level usually fail. remember 3dTV's? Google Glasses? this Apple vision thing looks cut from the same cloth as products like that. the "primal fear" thing mentioned is an intrinsic safeguard mechanism the mind taps into, which helps the human experiencing it to steer clear of making a dumb decision...like buying a $3500 pair of ski goggles.
  16. in honor of the recent passing of legendary bad ass Mr. Carl Weathers, I decided to give this a whirl: classic grindhouse blaxploitation film shot in a totally gritty 1970's downtown Kansas City. Carl has a minor role. the plot makes little sense, but who cares. lots of ass kicking. Pam Grier is in sultry goddess mode. great funk/library funk soundtrack. it was awesome.
  17. after ignoring all this taylor swift maga nonsense I've seen in the headlines, I finally decided to read up on it to find out what all the noise is about. wow. this is folie a deux on a mass scale, shared insanity among millions. I know I shouldn't be shocked anymore by all this clown shit coming out of the maga world, but still. hard to believe this is reality. the pentagon had to make a statement indicating that there is no psy op involving taylor swift to get Biden re-elected. that's pretty nuts they had to actually address this.
  18. further proof...I live in TX and there was hardly any coverage...why is the BBC reporting on it...chicken prices at the grocery store are really high right now...there was an X-files episode about chicken farm cannibals...it's all linked man///you just gotta know where to look
  19. finished Fargo S5. was excellent. the final ending scene took a minute to sink in, but am glad that's how it went. this season was far more supernatural than I think some of the past ones were. a lot of really great cinematography and visual elements as usual, like those Tim Burton Halloween masks. yeah the MN accents were definitely over the top, but they were like that in the movie as well so if I were to rank the seasons, would probably be something like 2, 1, 5, 3, 4
  20. I am tired of them but what can I do really. there is no other option. pick the lesser of the 2 evils is what it boils down to. if there was a viable alternative, I would be more than willing to give that a shot. but we get 2 choices. old guys. one is mentally insane. the electoral system in this country is long overdue for an update to bring it into modernity. this ain't the fuckin 1700s/1800s any more. but every time we go through the motions to get to election day, it sure feels like we are living in some outdated good ol boy era. I mean yeah it could be worse, we could have no choice, just get whoever cheats their way to the top. but I think most people out there still think of the US as not one of those totally corrupt countries, which is why all this scrutiny gets thrown at our shit show elections.
  21. interesting...designed by teenage engineering. aren't they known for product hardware / QC issues? wonder how long these little gadgets will last before breaking. and that screen is way too small for internet pron. they totally forgot about that in the design phase
  22. The Fury was a blind thrift store vinyl purchase for me many many years ago when I was looking for '80s music to either sample or mix with. this thread has made me realize I never did either haha
  23. handling of the conflicts aside, remember trump's whole juvenile mantra of "America first" certainly didn't do the US any favors when it comes to the isolationism aspect. he openly sought to wreck America's relationships with its allies, all to placate a bunch of racist red hat wearing buffoons. I am no big Biden fan myself, but I would say the Biden admin's handling of the conflicts is probably lower down on the totem pole in regard to how other countries view the US. if I were "other countries", the main thing that would impact how I viewed the US would be the potentially disastrous implications of having a sociopathic orange maga man back in the white house...unless of course those countries are Russia, N. Korea, or any other place where an unethical full of shit dictator is at the helm.
