  1. Just finished Gomorrah. Damn. When Bulgaria happened I worried they had jumped the shark, but no. Awesome (and awesomely violent) present day organized crime stuff. Just ace.
  2. What's that ... OctaMED?
  3. Hey ... didn't know there was a comic book / graphic novel thread. Cool. Love me some comic books for grownups. Last one I read and really, really enjoyed was part four of Riad Sattouf's excellent Arab of the Future. Great story, great use of the medium - art and text often at odds with each other - great art. Just, uhm, great.
  4. For what it was trying to do, 8/10 for me. Also the first Gaspard Noë film that did more than merely annoy with lame attempts at being shocking. Saw it on a big screen, which I'm sure helped.
  5. Nice! Reverb truly makes miracles happen sometimes :-)

Yes. I read the New York trilogy. Thought it very boring. As in "tries to hard to make 'literature' out of nothing" boring.

Just finished part four of Riad Sattouf's very excellent "Arab of the future" series of graphic novels. If you've never read it, it's about a little boy with a Syrian father and a French mother who move around between Khadaffi's Libya, Syria and Brittany. Everything is seen through the eyes of the boy which makes everything seem even more bizarre than it actually is. Comics are great for this sort of story telling, what with the art being able to tell a completely different story than the text, and Sattouf's is quite a master of the technique. Also, the art is really good.
  8. It's the aerodynamic rear wheels that make all the difference.
  9. This sounds stupid and shameless - what with the silly sample and all. Very good. Only thing I'm not too keen on is the bass that comes in at around 1:55. On my earbuds at least it sounds overpowering - in a bad way. Love the Detroit style acid line though.
  10. Pajaros de Verano Native Colombians get involved in the marijuana trade. Fantastic pictures. Great story. Interesting setting. No new agey nonsense. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6386748/
  11. Bold melodies. Brave man. Drums, bass and pad seem to be fighting for the same bit of spectrum in the part before 1:10. Later it clears up. Lots of movement in the sounds. That's always good.
  12. Never heard of this guy (m/f) before but like what I'm hearing so far. Will check it out more in depth as soon as more tracks become available.
  13. Liked it ... but in the end I just put on Drexciya and UR instead. Guess I'm growing old and jaded ...
  14. Wow ... Not one but TWO Benjolins ... Classy!
  15. Impressive ... what sort of modules did you build?
  16. Nice - love the home made Eurorack ... uhm ... case.
  17. Maybe you shouldn't? It's definitely dated and if it's the aesthetic you're after there's tons of other places to get it. PWEI was mostly for the critics - because of the whole sampling / eating itself thing. Everyone else danced to Happy Mondays instead.
  18. ^ | They're sampling. Only they're not having a device do it for them they're copying bits and pieces from other songs and playing them themselves (or at least pretending to). It's also pop, so, you know, pop is eating itself. The aesthetic is just what was popular at the time. EMF and Ned's Atomic Dustbin had it as well (to name but two examples besides the ones you've already given). I used to like it a lot and seeing it again after a these years doesn't make me feel like there's very much wrong with it. At least it's fun. Then again, maybe I'm just old.
  19. Indeed. " The risk of contracting HIV from anus sex is approx 17.25x the vaginal equavalent, thus if vaginal sex were the legislated national safe speed limit, then anus sex is already many fold above the speed limit and should thus be prosecuted with the harshest penalties available"
  20. It was rainy, cold and windy but my new commuter bike has 44 / 16 gears so I went for a ride anyway. Now I'm cold.
  21. Very nice. Like a sixties brothel with an Ikea cart.
  22. Doesn't sound all that much like Autechre to me but it *is* really nice. Thanks for posting!
  23. Pretty sure there isn't a single piece of gear in existence that Aphex *hasn't* used by now :-) Fun. Could be used standalone quite easily if you load some soundscape samples into it. Latest firmware (which I haven't installed yet) even comes with a mini synth. The sound is a bit boxy and in your face. Might be me, dunno. Hi-hats (often complained about) are fine. I *really* like the snares. For what the MK1 is going for second hand it's a steal.
