  1. ^ just finished Flanegan´s Haunting of Bly Manor which was pretty good. It manages to have a kind of innocent fairy tale vibe, unashamedly whimsical sometimes while going straight for the heart strings using traditional even old fashioned ghost story telling. Either that or they were all just tripping on the gardener´s Moonflower... think I might give Usher a go, maybe even rewatch Doctor Sleep and Midnight Mass which were both good as I recall. tis the season
  2. fooling around in line while the e kicks in before the doors to club tt1pd finally open
  3. I didn't think it even existed anymore, but 123movies has a pretty cool selection albeit totally jumbled together, just flicking through the first couple pages of the horror section you get one of the infamous Guinea Pig movies alongside Basket Case, Funny Games, The Gate and loads of weird looking stuff I've never even heard of. I settled for a Norwegian film called Syk Pike which was excellent. After that watched Salesmen, which felt like it could have been a really good Kevin Smith movie had he not gone off the deep end about a decade ago. Also rewatched The House That Jack Built, which was way better on second viewing, that last segment alone is worth it.
  4. Telemarketers was quite a fun watch, pairs well with American Pain for a double header of American Scumbaggery. Also finished Succession, and what a fuckin ride that was. The thing is a beast, execution tight to the point it feels like being locked inside some kind of corporate hell simulator. Good addition to the carnival and it's worth the torture for sure. I didn't get properly into it until around 6 episodes in, the way it just throws the viewer right into the fray from the get go and then just chugs along, around there, sixth or so episode where it seemed to hit its first kind of pinnacle drama point and after that I pretty much felt as hooked on the drug of it all as Greg "deal with the devil? Sure, souls are boring lol" does. I actually might rewatch that first group of episodes now with a better feel of the whole vibe cause I honestly don't remember a whole lot from them. I think a few more downright gags amongst the gang, like the part where the guy is unable to make an important live announcement due to getting wasabi in his eyes from Greg's poorly timed sushi eating, would've been a welcome tension releaser. But still, there's Peep Show'isms constantly hinting out throughout the dialogue to keep head above water in that regard anyway I guess.
  5. watched the recent Arnold Schwarzenegger documentary and it's amazing how much he just is Arnie in every aspect of his life, an ever accomplishing colossus of charm and energy, must be something else when experienced first hand. Until then I'll rewatch Predator, any mention of which was strangely absent, and listen to some prank calls, to which there's now three hours more of potential material!
  6. watched the recent documentary on Arnold Schwarzenegger and it's unbeleivable how he just is Arnie in every aspect of his life, a forward moving colossus of charm and energy with the added ability to turn emotions on or off as needed, almost to the point where the docu feels boring after a while. I would imagine his charisma would be quite awesome to experience at close range, but until then I'll re-watch Predator, any mention of which was strangely absent, and listen to some prank calls, to which there's now added three hours potential worth of new material!
  7. Beau Is Afraid. It was pretty impressive, weird fun sad, very creative like a cross between Terry Gilliam and Wes Anderson with a smattering of Jodorowsky.
  8. Upgrade (2018) This was a really decent slice of thriller sci fi. Only wish they´d gone more all out with the body horror/Tetsuo style elements. Searching (2018) I’m gushing over this film, I dunno perhaps I was just pleasantly surprised at seeing a normally abysmal technique actually tickle my goolies for once, cause I went in not really expecting much at all but the way this handles the ´screenlife´ concept was really engaging and a total joy to watch. Rather than a hurdle or gimmick, the tech here feels more like a natural stage for the story and there´s a degree of attention to detail regarding the placing of images on screen and juxtaposition of various open tabs/windows/applications etc. that along with some sharp editing and music create a dynamic of tension and immersion that works great for the storytelling, really impressive and actual holds a torch to films of the same genre done in the more traditional way.
  9. Had a drawn out and problem infested day at work yesterday, it one of those days where the first curveball of the day arrives early actin like a bad omen that seems to attract more as the day goes on. So when I finally got home, the stresses had followed me there and I was strung out and tetchy, a state when I´m in I know I shouldn´t get high but found a half roach in cig packet and smoked it anyway, almost in a self sabotaging "fuckit this day cant get worse" way. This wasn´t so bad, but didn´t exactly alleviate any stress and just left me somewhat despondent and restless. Since by this time it had gotten to be early evening, around 7, I decided fuck this day, took some ashwagandha ate a banana and crawled defeated under the duvet. Still too wired for sleep I start with defeatist thoughts of inadequacy in every aspect my self sabotage mode mind can come up with, so i just lay there wallowing and reeling for some time until i turn my mind to thoughts of a friend who had lately been cropping up in dreams. He was an old friend, from childhood, my best friend at the time and a very reliable sort, old beyond his years and impatient to grow out of childhood. I noticed that just thinking about that had relaxed me and slowed my breathing enough to use it to start an imaginary scenario in which he, through our recent "dream correspondence" had now come to my rescue and had brought me to a secluded wooden house in the middle of a forest on a rainy afternoon where I was laying on a bed while he silently stacked a fire. Once in a while he would gently put a reassuring hand on my shoulder and tell me that "we had a month here, so no rush". Heeding his words I kept the idea of unlimited and perfect tranquility alive with a few recurring themes; my friend moving slowly around, tending me and stoking the fire while i fell in and out of sleep and always waking to the sound of rain all around outside, the notion of endless time for recuperation and luxurious comfort. Soon I was (irl) sleeping like a log. I awoke around 3 hours later like I´d been on some massive and important adventure, the main portion of which was obscured and only the aftermath was recalled: being on a beach just before dark and recovering my (orange) minidisc player and discovering a very special tune on it, like a pearl found within a clam. i proceeded to the bathroom to pee and I felt fantastic in every way, limber and ready for a fuckin marathon! This was one of the greatest sleep experiences I´ve had, even though i couldn´t even remember the main part of the dream, its sheer force was buzzing within for hours after. I had the feeling that it was the kind of dream that, had I not "fortified" myself with the initial pre sleep scenario, I would have woken up much sooner due to the sheer intensity of it (whatever it was) that took place on or around that dusky, seaweed infested beach.
  10. this was a harder watch than I anticipated. There's quite a bit of footage of the kids from when they were under the control of this guy, and its tough to watch, the change in personality they exhibit is so drastic it seems unreal.
  11. yeah this was weird, and hard to really make much sense of with key characters being completely absent from the making of this docu. The real "curious case" here seems to be that of the Barnetts, who seemed really shady, their fragile facade of perfection shattered by the arrival of Natalia, who I reckon was just a handicapped kid (def not 22 but not 8 either lol) with various quirks brought on by abandonment issues. But who knows lol. very strange indeed. The way Michael Barnett increasingly hams it up (and the lawyer lady to a lesser degree) did lower it all to something bordering on the farcical, which just added another level of confusion to the whole thing. The neighbors seemed pretty genuine though. I especially liked the cat lady with all the crucifixes xD
  12. Influencer. I was expecting alot of scenes of mobile screens with text and emojis flying all over the place, but despite the subject matter this was handled really well, maturely even - resulting in a decidedly "old fashioned" thriller style movie, with a kind of cool, ominous style that reminded me a bit of Nicolas Winding Refn vibes (sans the gratuitous violence) Infinity Pool. I went into this only knowing that it was made by Cronenberg Jr. it´s the first of his films I´ve ever watched and I really liked it. It might be a far fetched, even nonsensical idea, though I thought the fictional country angle was a really cool idea, but man does it make up for any shortcomings in atmosphere, weirdness and general solid filmmaking chops. Very impressed with this actually.
  13. dam, tubi.tv isn´t available to me. Any other streaming sites that specialize in those tasty obscure flicks? I have POV Horror but its only found footage stuff. I also normally come up empty handed looking on piratebay, though one can sometimes get lucky there
  14. and yet he had a perfectly comfortable chair all along, with wheels on it to boot! All he wanted to do was chill, get up at noon and wheel on down to feed the ducks. Pesky know it all doctors with their advanced technology and fancy notions, bah!
  15. One thing I simply cannot stomach about Nebraska's film posts is that he never says where he found/watched those movies, cause I can never fuckin find them anywhere xD
  16. another vid (from same channel) is pretty dam cool too
  17. if nothing else, then another youtube Q&A chat sesh with Sean the shifu, vapin n´ chillin on the porch in the old Norwegian woods would be cool

    Now Reading

Haruki Murakame's Killing Commendatore. The people and locations in this book stuck with me from since a previous read through (where for some reason I got sidetracked and never finished it) In the three or so years since, certain situations or thoughts would conjure the pit & shrine, Tomohiko's mountain house or Menshiki's mansion up clear as a place I'd once visited in real life, so naturally I was immersed doubly this time round. Loved this guy's books since I was given Wind Up Bird Chronicle around 2010 and recently reread Kafka on the Shore aswell, which used to be my 2nd favorite after IQ84, but I reckon Commendatore has nudged it into 3rd place. And recently found out his new novel, The City And Its Uncertain Walls, has been released in Japan! Wonder how long we'll have to wait for a translation..
  19. I liked the last episode. Like you said, it picks up the pace a bit towards the end of the season. The part where they're bumbling around in the brush had some good, anime style slapstick vibes. Though the season lagged a bit in a (large) section in the middle it was deece, and looking forward to the next season. Been watching Rabbit Hole w Kiefer Sutherland and Charles Dance. It's straight up story driven heist/conspiracy style thriller and is doing it pretty well so far. I never got round to watching 24, but I see the two have been compared.
