  1. It's pretty clear that Richard, etc, many artists imprint stuff, but with intent, and with the desire to imbue even those psychedelic oddities with their own idea of 'good'. Or at least express 'there is no emotion here'. So it's an odd thing to hear a lot of his stuff that tries to combine the tracker insanity w/singing, etc.
  2. It is interesting that like...his youtube doesn't have Songs About My Cats on it, which I loved. Always just a lot of traumatic imprint on all his stuff. "Winter in the belly..." starts w/the Dad content....with some luck he rounded out a whole era of trauma, because "Dad" is a very early song w/him singing, and late releases include a lot of that sort of stuff. Also (and I know this is very annoying psychosocial tone...) a lot of his sexual stuff was more in the middle of his arc. I dunno. I remember listening to Meathole in high school art class. I got a lot of energy from the structural aspects of his music. But the content was never very relatable. It felt like a full indulgence in like......tim burton mixed with Requiem for a Dream, then shortly thereafter stuff like Into The Void. This was a theme I found many ppl go through in the 2000s. It was a level of horror mixed with detachment that I never actually related to. Being older, I can hypothesize it was a mix of childhood trauma, small town sickness (which I do relate to), then like...antidepressant medications. Odd drug use (which to me would be more chemical than say, weed and shrooms). Anyway. I think he managed to come out ok thru it. Glad for him. Drugs + trauma happen but many ppl never produce anything from it. Will say that Songs About My Cats to me is the perfect level of confusion, human approachable release of his. Maybe he learned how to deal w/other stuff thru that. Being alone w/a cat is a good thing.
  3. Yeah I gotta agree that he said publicly like 8 years ago that he was in a bind (that was right after he put together a massive modular thing), so taxes seem likely. Since...yeah I dunno. People get burnt out work and life-wise. I dunno. Beyond "Traditional..." some of his stuff around that era didn't have a lot of the raw energy of his earlier stuff. I think migrating from the style to a more 'mature' well rounded musical thing was also likely very tough.
  4. Very cool! Worked at a book publishing place recently doing programming and printer repair...also a kid who great up on MYST, this is very cool. Design is fantastic. Also did game development for a few years. Big fan of the 'purity' of puzzles.
  5. Oh, I guess here's some other way older stuff from 10 years ago or so, 'beats' i suppose.
  6. Hello, I'm in a bit of a period where lots of experiments over the years are getting fairly congealed. Figured I'd post a few things. First a test from today after getting my devices all going properly via MIDI, and having it all either controlled by my Yamaha Q70 or Ableton, without having to switch anything. Also have everything applicable running into a USB 3 hub to allow for patches/samples to be interchanged at will: Also a few various older tests of all kinds of wide variety: https://cheephardware.bandcamp.com/album/turnythirthy4 And a list of 50+ hardware test jams from a few years back: https://emeneeaudion.bandcamp.com/album/acid-experiments If anyone wants, be glad to talk about any of it, or about setup...my thing (out of necessity, but also interest) is old, weird cheap gear. So any questions about MIDI, interfacing w/DAWs, etc. be glad to talk about. I do realize there are a million threads as well. But hey, just reach out if ya want. Pat Non-glamorous shot of my cheap crap.
  7. Hey thanks appreciate it! Honestly the entire show (beyond making the song earlier that day, gathering the gear) was 99% improv...and I was doing all the cameras and effects, much of the audio, in realtime running around the room. I do totally agree with the feedback - we keep wondering about diving back into these stream of consciousness shows and plucking out some good bits, refining etc. I think too we really just mock everyone - in many ways I completely distrust the covid vaccine companies themselves, and also can't stand the nonsense of the anti-vax crowd. I'll check out those two you mentioned - thanks for taking a watch/listen!
  8. Hmm this is fun. Been doing a live A/V show on and off for a few years called THERE'S NOTHING WEIRD ABOUT IT. I guess I'd pick this years old episode re: covid where we did a nice "My Generation" cover. Then one I did solo this year. "My Vaccination" Latest "OK" solo ep: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1837281613?t=00h33m15s
  9. Try a cheap PYLE preamp and some sony speakers from the early 80s, hook it up to one of those outdoor batteries.
  10. not personally a big fan of his music, listening-wise, but i can get to him as a person. i do like ariel. vaporwave was kinda interesting at first but 95% of it is junk. can't imagine the sound at that show is going to be all that great, heh. re: the jan 6th stuff, they were pretty much there just to see what big event was going on. the event was a fuckin joke.
