  1. This came up in my "check this out later" pile and I'm quite sure it must have been a watmm recommendation, but I have no idea what thread I saw it in. Is this one of you? Anyway, really nice jams.
  2. Whenever I hear anyone say "lush" to describe music I immediately think of the intro to this track. The epitome of lushness. The pads "drop" halfway through Jumbo is also the epitome of lushness. When they fall to Eb maj it's like sinking into a cloud. I know these are relatively generic picks, might come back with some deeper cuts when I have time. Cool thread
  3. Absolute classic track and album, nothing can touch it. Picked it up in '99 and Karl's observational and stream of consciousness lyrics were revolutionary for me as a young teen. This new track is just really boring and lifeless, and seems to be referencing the past but in the most uninspired sounding way. If it was another Drift project I'm sure it would fit in, but if this is the first single off what is sure to be a hyped up album, it's a pretty weak start. IMO The other ones in that live set could turn out all right though ?
  4. Hmm ? Honestly it's all kind of a blur of bad plots and good laughs, just binge some lol
  5. Not so much "now playing" as "stuck in my head all day" ?
  6. silver and maroon and blue and purple and silver and red and silver and red and blue and yellow and white and blue and blue and red and grey and red and green and purple and yellow and black and black and red and green and white and blue and blue and grey and blue and white and yellow and black and white and blue and blue and red and white and red and grey and grey and red and red and yellow and green and grey and blue and blue and grey and yellow and white and silver and black and green and red and white and black and silver and white and grey and blue and blue and grey and silver and white and white and red and (?) and green and grey and brown and white and green and red and red and green and white and black and silver and silver and green and grey and black and black and red and white and grey and red and blue and blue and blue and blue
  7. It's just the raw soundboard. When they released AE_LIVE/onesix sets they had given them a full mixing treatment to sound better for home listening. Helsinki wasn't given that treatment (yet). Also they didn't really "put it out", I believe it was intended to be just for people who had attended the show. (but obviously we all got our grubby paws on it immediately)
  8. After all these years thinking the Simpsons should have called it a day by the early 00's, wondering how they could possibly have kept going all this time, assuming it must be total garbage since they had already gone downhill so badly by then, a couple months ago I decided to take the plunge and watch them all. After that initial period of shittiness they actually did a pretty decent job of picking things back up, aside from some unavoidable issues. The most notable of these issues is that they are by definition a 90s family, so the further along they push the show without aging the characters, the less their backstories make sense (e.g. having to continually update the time period of retrospective storylines) which over time just weakens the entire premise of the show - this is a no-brainer for the countless fans who gave up on the show around the same time I did, whose childhood coincided with those first 8-10 seasons. At first I thought, "It helps if you just think of it as a different show altogether." But they do a pretty decent job of staying true to the original characters while moving them forward through the relevant time period context. The writing is as patchy/inconsistent as any other similar show - Family Guy and American Dad for example have loads of zero-laughs, total dud episodes themselves - and some of these plotlines are genuinely moronic and on some occasions have a completely absurd wrap-up that would get an F in highschool English class. The absurdity factor works for those other shows but when the Simpsons try it it just feels cheap and out of place. But at the same time I have gotten some serious laughs. The overall quality has kept me going (I'm up to season 25 now), and while the plotlines might be a bit contrived or outright stupid at times, the joke writing is often very clever, which is one of the things that made them such a great show in the first place.
  9. It's haunted. Xektses sql is just a raw field recording of the ghosts in Oversteps House.
  10. The sub-sub bass on this (helsinki) is just heaped on. It's a bit too much and detracts from overall enjoyment, gets really fatiguing by about 2/3 of the way in. I still think this is probably what overwhelmed the sound system but of course can only speculate cause I wasn't there and generally never listen to audience recordings. They seem to be REALLY into these low sub frequencies over the past several years. Loads of it in S+P. I wonder if that has something to do with them getting older and losing some degree of hearing, sparking a greater interest in mostly "felt" frequencies. Or in this case it serves a specific purpose to the physical live experience. Maybe fatiguing on cans cause it's not meant for cans (yet). So personally I'm hoping to hear those frequencies reasonably mixed down in the final edits. Ymmv of course.
  11. I know these both have the Shobaleader name attached to them but to me they're completely different things (ie. Tom pretending he had a band vs Tom having a band). Aside from a handful of tracks, and kinda strange mixing, I actually thought D-demonstrator was pretty good. Some of those tunes are very well written imo, shows that he really can write solid pop tunes if he wants. Into the Blue and Abstract Lover remain top tracks for me. Elektrac was not very interesting for me past the initial novelty. Very impressive of course but also imo not really necessary. I haven't played it at all since it came out tbh. I think it would be awesome if he did a bunch of all new material specifically written for the band.
  12. For what it's worth Iradelphic had a lot of those same sounding drum tracks too. Roughly half the tracks on Iradelphic were pretty decent actually. Take out the bad vocals and a few other cringey moments. Combined with a few tracks from Phantasm Planes and Iradelphic Sessions there's an album's worth of good stuff there. That period didn't sound to me like he had lost inspiration, it actually sounded like he was pursuing new avenues of inspiration (and the obvious Bibio influence as he started playing guitar), it just didn't always work very well. The self-titled was not bad either, to be fair some of those tracks are quite solid. But maybe sounding less inspired there yeah. Like doing a survey of past styles. The hints of going downhill were there since Iradelphic but if I'm really fair it didn't get dire until he started adding children's choirs to everything. I agree with most people here tho yeah, I don't have huge expectations for the guy or anything I'm just bored on watmm.
  13. Xektses Sql is the sound of ghosts having a rave inside the walls at 3am
  14. Someone in a thread somewhere in the ae forum reported meeting Clark at a show, and he asked them if they knew where he could get any coke. Kinda been running with it since then. "Clark is a cokehead" is the new "Clark is in a wheelchair"
  15. He's doing too much coke. That album writeup reads like the ramblings of a cokehead.
  16. So is he gonna put out instrumentals or ...?
  17. I've become obsessed with arugula in the past couple weeks. Always thought of it as kind of a specialty thing but it's been dirt cheap lately, in those clamshell containers of mixed salad greens. Just straight arugula at the same price point. Whatever particular nutrients are in this stuff, my body is just like fuck yeah gimme It has so much intense flavour, I just eat it right out of the container. I'm dieting right now and trying (mostly successfully) to completely cut sugar and processed foods for awhile, so that could have something to do with it. Things start to taste better with that shit out of your system.
