  1. It's really weird to think this album has caused such a stir (and rightly so) and yet seems completely unknown outside of this forum. That's fine, I guess, but I would like to see this artist get some major acknowledgement for such a stellar piece of work. It's great to a big hit on here but it needs major PR for the artist and SKAM to reap any financial rewards. You have to sigh at all the crap that gets hyped up by Pitchfork, Boomkat and all the other on-line outfits. And yet this maybe the best album to come along for a long time.
  2. Well nearly the end of December now. This was album of the year for me. Haven't heard anything with such a sense of identity and beauty since BOC's debut back in 1998.
  3. What's that vocal sample on 'Motions'? Gah. Everytime I hear it I think "Oh it's..." and then it's gone
  4. Had a good few listens to this now. Not really a bad track on the entire album. With one or two exceptions, Trademark Ribbons Of Gold frankly shames what Warp has been putting out these past few years.
  5. Anyone in the UK remember this? Only available if you knew the guy who ran the video shop. http://www.filmsamling.se/instick/Xtro_UK.jpg
  6. For me, VHS Head completely nails that slightly sinister aspect of the 80's when we were on the edge of the analog-to-digital transition. My teenage years were the 1980's so tracks like Red Lens Effect (with its Tangerine Dream/John Carpenter homage) really speak to me. There's so many moments on this album where I hear something I remember from back then but cannot quite place it. Last time music had this effect would probably have been BOC.
  7. Mary Ann Hobbs played 'Remote Control' on her show broadcast 12th August 2010. Mary Anne Hobbs-Experimental Show (Radio One)-DAB-12-08-2010 Track is at 26:13
  8. The name 'trademark ribbons of gold' was a reference to the pre-cert era of video tapes . This was the true golden era of home video A "pre-cert video" is any videotape issued in the UK before the introduction of the 1984 Video Recordings Act. Pre-cert videos were not required by law to be submitted to the BBFC so the era was unregulated, leading to many uncut releases of videos which would have fallen foul of the BBFC's strict guidelines. Some of the smaller independent companies decided to take advantage of this by issuing "strong uncut" versions depicting graphic violence and gore. A whole barrage of titles previously banned by the BBFC from getting a cinema release suddenly ended up uncensored on home video.
  9. 'Red Lens Effect' sounds like a homage to late eighties Tangerine Dream (the Froese, Haslinger, Franke line-up).
  10. I love how he makes the 80's feel so sinister and uncomfortable. I think that's where people are picking up on the BOC vibe.
  11. Previews. Sounds incredible (as if you didn't expect that). Here
  12. is that your blog? Whats with all the sleeve notes? Autechre never write anything! I just posted a comment about it on the blog It's a biography of the band. These sleeve notes are pretty standard issue on Japanese CDs. I just picked up the CD this afternoon. Tower Records were giving away posters too. There should be a picture of it on there somewhere. I could tell you all about how great it sounds but most of you will have downloaded it from Bleep by now. Regards
  13. Out in Japan now. http://jasonnewton.posterous.com/ regards
  14. It is a huge thread. However, I predict the next Boards Of Canada release will create a thread that will require its own dedicated server.
  15. Its on the Warp front page now. No date except 'Early 2008'.
  16. 3rd September now. for CHRIST'S sake, c'mon. Isn't he playing live this month. Surely there must be a live/album release tie-in thing?
  17. So when is this coming out? Must be soon now.
  18. I'm surprised they had the complete track available to download free - before the 12" is even out? Maybe I got it wrong though! :ermm:
  19. Scroll down for 30 second samples. http://www.midheaven.com/bin/search.cgi/datedartist=bibio
  20. Mush records still have it as March 7th but there's nothing on Boomkat. WTF?
