  1. X: I changed my mind on this after reading about wii u and have chosen to revoke my flaccid rant.
  2. If I could get any game right now for wii it would probably be metroid prime 1 My list of games to play Xenoblade Skyward sword Chrono trigger Windwaker Not sure if skyward sword is worth it. It would be nice to play something recent though.
  3. Trying to beat ocarina of time. It's really long and at times tedious but its a classic in the purest sense. It's huge though and I'm starting to get tired of it. Too much outdated stuff like not being able to skip text and other minor problems that make it a pain at times. Tried playing resident evil 1 for wii and it wasn't fun.
  4. nearly on the level of the idm godfathers i think he's awesome. OWE is up there with all of it
  5. berberian sound studio - 6/10 upstream color - 8/10 the turin horse - ?/10 because i turned it off
  6. That's a seriously amazing film. Paul Thomas Anderson is a genius. i agree. seems to be agiging really well/ didnt like it at first. now i like it more. star trek DS9 and next generation are must watch the original is should watch some of the movies are should / might as well watch the reboot movies are shouldn't / can if you want I guess watch
  7. agreed. melodies, harmonies, arrangements, and beats are all either good or great but the lyrics and persona basically renders it completely unlistenable, taking what could potentially be brilliant and turning it into... shit. it does sell, however. what I find personally disturbing/annoying is that whole "MJ gone our nigga dead" stuff is considered "genius" by pretty much everybody. it's like, come on. no. harmonies, melodies, there are some good bits to it but overall its really not that different from Bieber and Gaga. certainly not different enough for supposedly tasteful critics to slobber all over it. (especially when most of it is just sampled loops) some good bits but you know, 7-8 range I guess this is what happens when you let retards run culture
  8. I've come to think that the absolute best way to improve at composition is to understand other composer's compositions.
  9. I think the number one way to succeed in music theory and more complex composition is to follow along with the score while listening to pieces of music. Start with Mozart and Schubert to get an idea of symmetry and form. Then you can branch off and get more complicated with rhythm and other weird shit looking at whatever you want. Piano music, quartets. In order to analyze music well you need to have a basic understanding of basic music theory. Honestly I think this is somewhat debatable, I think a lot of the old way of thinking about music theory has gone away somewhat. I think it's just good to know the basic things: scales, intervals, chord progressions. Knowing what they are. I really don't like "notes" and having to think inside the whole G sharp C flat blah blah paradigm. Piano roll. I think being raised on the whole G sharp shit and having to know all the note names made it a lot more confusing than it needed to be. More "serious" composers would probably disagree. That said, it's strange how a knowledge of counterpoint can help your composition. Often times fifths are really useful, going down a fifth is a good way to move forward generally. Having basic knowledge of what intervals and movements composers are using is useful to get an idea of how to employ that when you lack the "ear" to know exactly what you want at a certain time. I'm not a pro in theory, and every time I've gotten lessons or read up on it I've come away a better musician. That said, I also think that it's not necessary to make great music, as certain academicians would probably think.
  10. I think all four of the albums are about the same level. Maybe I'm retarded or something. They all have different merits though, that's for sure. G+MHTRTC are masterpieces, TCH and TH are really, really great albums by the same people who made those masterpieces. Wouldn't that kind of be like saying that if G is Beethoven's 9th then TH might be his sixth or fourth or something? That's an analogy, for those with bad logical ability. In other words, Maybe TH doesn't have the greatest melodies in their entire repetoir... it has other virtues. It might be their most immersive and widescreen, atmospheric. When I listen to it I feel like it contains many areas. It's a journey. Check your expectations and comparisons, is all I'm saying. It would be genuinely idiotic to just discard it as a letdown and a bad album. The exact same thing can be said of mbv. I am really starting to realize they weren't joking around about this album having more subliminals than anything else they've made, including G! In fact, the production detail and nuance makes G sound like MHTRTC. Melodically it's less interesting, but it is more like ambient music than Geogaddi was. I think it's more comparable to FSOL's Lifeforms or something.
  11. I like Soderbergh. I can agree that he never really pulls through with a "masterpiece" but it seems like part of his philosophy with film. He's kind of just good at making movies but doesn't really care. Shit man. He's probably one of the best directors of all time but more into making little pamphlets instead of big time crazy shit. You know, he really should just devote the rest of his life to directing TV shows for HBO or Netflix. Seriously. I would love that. Imagine something like Contagion or Bubble except more detailed and brought across a Wire level format. I don't like how we can't compare the Godfather with Sopranos without feeling like we're making an error. We need to put that behind us and bring TV into a higher level of art, seems like Soderbergh would be a great guy for the job. Possibly the best.
  12. Love the whole thing start to end. Up there with their other material. Better in some respects.
  13. I'm fairly sure that rougesfoam guy is something of a "twat." It seems like he primarily just likes the same shit that FACT and RA do, and doesn't back up his theoretical ideas very much by linking to music that has purposefully been doing these things long before Zomby+Burial. To clarify, I think he is theoretically and philosophically intelligent, but his taste in music, and actual understanding of music, is fairly conformist and pretty bad. Do you read what you write, man? Super fucking dumb thing to say. I dunno man, in this ADHD age if anyone is willing to write multipage articles exploring the aesthetics of experimental electronic music then let 'em, I say. You may revise your statement on further reflection. I have no problem with him exploring that work it's just that his idea of infinite music has been and is continuing to be implemented by various musicians and he chooses to investigate Zomby, which, while being interesting in various respects, is not exactly "infinite music." And like I said, to clarify, I think his exploration of aesthetics and understanding and writing ability is very admirable. I just think there is better music to focus on. EDIT: the fact that he has not investigated existing "infinite" or postmodern electronic music leads me to think that he just doesn't have good taste in music. Ikonika. I should make it clear for purposes of openness that I do have a stake in this, as I am personally interested in this style of music. I believe it is a new genre, and I don't think Zomby has anything to do with it. Vaporware a little more so.

  15. I agree that he's overhyped, boring, pretty much mediocre. And I personally don't think 8 bit belongs anywhere near real music, or at least very rarely when its pulled off well. There have been a few good tracks, decent at least, educational for better producers who can actually do something original with a few of the techniques he makes to carry them through to the point where they are no longer disposable tracks that are best heard in 192 kbps. In short, I think his music is good but not nearly good enough to justify looking past the attitude. There is too much other music to listen to and the fact that there is so much hype for such... decent... stuff, is a very good illustration of the fact that weak bitch ass opportunist bloggers have taken over the criticism industry. Only those kind of people could fall over eachother so fast to hype something so bland. Not to be a dick, I just really am not a fan of how twitter and so on encourages that kind of behavior, and the fact that it's impossible to differentiate between most sites like FACT and your average run of the mill blogspot. All that said, the "With Love" trailer looked alright. It's not going to be enough for me to get over the plagiarizing and sense of entitlement.
  16. his work with Burnt Friedman is currently in my personal favorites
  17. the shots of the people at like 23 minutes while his music is playing are pretty funny. yes. the lecture is enjoyable as well. and agreed, HD is fantastic. i turned my dad onto it, he used to be a big kraftwerk fan
  18. really not in agreement with the overt negativity surrounding this. It's not great, I do not think it's a great album but I would definitely lean toward an 8/10 or so. I think the production is really fucking good and it's pretty listenable. It's unique music in a certain way. it will probably end up n the same level as Human After All if not a little bit higher. It's not as repetitive, and has a few good songs. I think the live feel plays out better when fleshed out over the course of the album. Put all this together and despite its obvious faults and non-genius AKA non-Discovery... it's still something I wish more musicians these days were doing. Making good music, essentially. All the elements are here. also to anti-Retro people, totally agree. I've been wanting to read that Retromania book. I still think these guys are being postmodern enough on this album to keep it fresh. I specifically really do like "Fragments of Time" which is quite good objectively imo.
  19. "fragments of time" is pretty great. I'll listen to it again. the casablancas track is terrible as is the panda bear. a lot of it could have been better with a little more work but the idea is good and its very well produced on the whole. still a better listen than 99.99% of other "album based" music coming out
  20. dont really understand Animals... might need to try again tonight my 3 most useful albums are Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen Roxy Music - Avalon A Guy Called Gerald - Black Secret Technology all chill, good melodies, sexy, spaced out, soulful, respect for weeed
