Did it occur to you that Ludwig 'von' Beethoven is a misspelling based on the fact that he was a German-born composer where 'von' is used instead of the dutch 'van'?
It's called hypercorrection and I have told you about the phenomenon before. Remember about how I told you that I grew up being taught that the proper spelling of "dilemma" is "dilemna"? And then I explained how various inconsistencies in the english language would lead people to try and apply what they'd learned from words like "condemn" and "solemn" to words that don't share the same etymological origins. U Member? I am not sure u member.
