  1. mostly thanks to sunk cost fallacy i finally managed to wade through this.

    it's not a bad show...

but rather average for a lynch joint and really disappointing for a twin peaks season imo.

some really good bits (audrey + charlie, episodes 03/08 (tho the latter could just as well pass as a standalone short),
the sound design (as always), the build up and ending were some A+ trolling ("welcome to rl"), "i am the FBI")

some plain awful (everything diane, pretty much anything actually happening in twin peaks besides the sherrif office being
blatantly tacked on fan service, most tries at humor being cringeworthy (wally was great tho), poor man's tarantino scenes)

and lots, LOTS of drag. (dougie)

some of the dialogue was so arbitrarily drawn out with silences in the most clichéd arthouse kinda way i couldn't help but think he's taking the piss.
then again, even as a joke it's tiring after a while.

yeah, so davey sure loves to play with expectations... now, to me the reason why the twin peaks of old worked was because it built up expectations first,
then farted on them. between lynchian horror and sickly sweet soap opera you really felt anything could happen, genuinely weird.
at times season 03 was just disjointedly plodding along with hardly any opportunity to actually bond with any of the characters.
i don't need to be spoon fed emotional responses but at least make me give a flying fuck now and then, will ya?
that being said the over-the-top dead kid scene was worth a chuckle.

it's kinda funny how this is working pretty much exactly the same way as the last few lost seasons
(an ultimately visionless, gimmicky piling of "mystery" shenanigans all revolving around some shady cosmic good / evil dichotomy never to be resolved anyway) but while the latter
were called out as tripe by pretty much everyone this seems to be universally acclaimed in mainstream media.

no secret lynch is more and more disappearing up his own ass (inland empire was a snorefest and going through the lynchian motions already but at least only
for 3 hours instead of fucking 19). on top of always having been a bit of an esoteric dunce it seems some early dementia is setting in, too.
sure, doesn't hurt his general imaginativeness (maybe quite the opposite) but reading this thread and what certain acolytes
are projecting into this meaningless wank (not that there's anything wrong with that) to fend off even the tiniest speck of criticism was actually more entertaining than watching large parts of s03.

i kinda get he's still scratching an itch like hardly anyone else does, tho.

    whatevs, rave on folks! <3

    lol.

  2. through with hard mode, got the remaining achievements along the way except god mode... i think for that one i'll restart on easy XP.

great title, athmosphere and gameplay tight AF, despite laughable patchwork story (most prolly intended), shallow side"quests" and some OP skills towards the end (although i guess you're supposed to sandbox once done with the story... it's just some trees finish too early). easily top 5 of the year material.

sorry it'll be over soon... the again devs confirmed 3 DLCs in the near future, story and arena endgame... or so i heard. wee!

  3. yeah i think i got the tactics down (hit n run, deploy shield if possible, regain energy by trashing vampires, rinse n repeat) it's more a thing of getting into the flow by now. but dang that uzi hurts.

I want more in this series.

no shit! there's quite alot of unused concept art floating around the webs:

    ...

also there's supposed to be a limited physical copy coming this month, think i'll make that an early christmas present to myself :).

  4. yeah i'm stuck on shadow on hard atm. man this game only gets better once you get the hang of it, some skills are easily abusable tho, like the air drop and overload. on normal i ended up cheesing the last fight with shields and an endless stream of electras, just shooting away blindly and ending up with like 3 spare minutes, rather anti-climatic.

devs are already busy patching tho, button binding is supposed to be around the corner, there's already been some damage balancing. very responsive fellas in steam discussion, cool folks!

ps: anyone else notice the aphex button on HER? :)

    edit: quackshot <3

  5. ^ I find keeping your distance and shooting is not a good idea in most cases, at least until you've leveled up a bit and are more powerful. enemies are much more precise shooters than you.

yup, stuck to up and close strategy and got B+ in the parking lot B). shotties and melee are the way to go! liking the charge upgrade, very satisfying :) also getting better at laying paths for dashes. still struggling making good use of shield.

those akira drums tho... presentation 10/10 no doubt.

  6. Decided to give Ruiner a spin. Only got thru the prologue so far. It's like Dark Souls meets Ghost in the Shell I guess.

Seems like Devolver is the go-to publisher for Polish indie developers these days.

lol spend a good 30 minutes failing against the first boss on normal, trying to be clever, divide n conquer and be mobile to take guys off strategically one by one shooting and dogding... then i just took out my melee and mashed the fucker down :D.

getting super meat boy feels. phew.

    edit: 88 deaths, a solid E!! XD

  7.

    Ruiner is great

    color me intrigued :o

was playing it for a couple of hours last night, only had to stop because it was 5am and I had to get some sleep for work.

frequent points of criticism seem to controls and difficulty... the latter is deffo a plus in my book tho :) what do you think?

It definitely needs the ability to rebind controls (I can't believe an indie developer is putting out a game in 2017 without the ability to rebind controls, that's just fucking crazy).

I am finding I'm hitting a brick wall at the moment, so yeah it's a bit difficult.

thank you. doesn't sound like something a patch couldn't fix eventually. SOLD!

    also

started playing Ruiner. love it! it's basically Perturbator: The Game.

thank you for this comment, as it made me check out this "perturbator" guy's latest EP and it's pretty fucking great, like carpenter on steroids. (yes, i am living under a rock)

  8. snuggled up in retro heaven sandwich between mega man collection 2 and sonic mania these days. bit disappointed the original challenges of mm 9 and 10 aren't tied to steam achievements, which are rather l-/tame... i want dat e-peen and people to knoe godammit! other than that there's not much to say except i still feel 10 is underrated!

concerning the latter: it's effing amazing. before release i was kinda sceptical towards the old school level remixes (re-hashy cash-grabby?) but NO WAY those are actually the best thing about it! like your misty-eyed memories coming alive, going through childhood family pictures and on one everything is familiar and on the next it still kinda is but your mom got teresa orlowski boobs or somethign I LOVE IT! that's not to say the design of the new ones isn't spot-on, too, particularly digging the western and film studio ones. if there's any gripe at all it'd maybe be that compared to 3&knuckles the last few stages don't quite convey the same level of epicness, like doomsday zone in space n shit. titanic monarch can't quite hang with that, still cool tho. sure there's one or another legacy level i'd have switched like i could do without flying battery, rather do want ice cap but that's just a matter of taste really, selection is well rounded.

really makes me hope for mania pt. 2.

on another note i'm pretty much in the mode with shenzhen i/o by now, only missing one puzzle of the main campaign but it's really doing my head in (fucking color changing shoes ugh... after spending hours on a terrible solution i figured i had written the instruction incorrectly so had to more or less start all over, now i'm either missing exactly ONE effing line or board space square... :( ) so in my desperation i went back to TIS-100 and my progress with i/o immediatly showed: got loads of puzzles down i had bashed my brain against before, the graphic onces actually all proved to be not too hard as all and were fun as hell, now i'm down to the last row sans signal divider. also finally started optimzing early puzzles in both titles and doin the alternate-solution achievements of TIS, surprisingly for myself i got em all rather quickly except NO_MEMORY... when in doubt: jro!

  9. while the unapologetic sentimentality and existential subject matter of the leftovers always resonated quite deeply with a part of me i'm probably not the most proud of i've got to say:

that finale just fucked me right in the soul.

    fuck.

(also quite remarkable from a technical point of view imo)

oh yeah and got s7 was a bit shit innit. "shame" ... 'specially following the s6 finale, which was one of the best.#

    edit ozarkzzz.

... unfortunately shipping is US only. i even opened a faux adress with stackry already but then realized i'd have to get a credit card, too... meh.

(maybe some US watmmer stumbles over this having a heart to help out? :3)

  11. Got Ikaruga on Steam - forgot how frikkin' hard this game was. Got to the third stage mini-boss and fell over in my chair.

apart from being hard it's also a completely unique masterpiece in game design. <3 :gamer:

from my experience the hardest part is finding another maso to join you in 2 player mode tho... so much potential there!
