  1. Currently drinking this beauty. 10.5% abv ale brewed and then blended with its own test batches that were aged in various barrels with Brettanomyces and/or Lactobacillus. Starts fruity and spicy, ends tart, very nice overall.
  2. Get this if you can, not necessarily a RIS, but in that same vein and very tasty!

  4. Me and the gf liked the banana bread beer, we had it with breakfast though. I've been enjoying this New Belgium Frambozen lately. A brown ale with raspberries. It has a nice tart fruitiness that balances well with the base beer. Almost like chocolate covered raspberries, but not crazy chocolatey flavor, just a hint.
  5. I just said that to my gf last night. It would be cool if they continued the show past the comics by introducing other groups, and one per season could keep it fresher.

  7. Yeah, that's the thing. Here in the US craft beer is finally becoming big. Post-prohibition Budweiser and the other big names used their size and distribution power to kill off competition. This year craft beer has taken over a full 5% of the market. That's not a huge number, but the big guys are finally realizing that it's eating into their markets (they actually blame it on liquor and their increased offerings, while at the same time buying craft beer breweries). The thing that sucks is that they buy these craft breweries but the customer has no idea they're supporting AB-INBEV/Miller-Coors products because there is no indication on the label much like Stella Artois, Hoegaarden, etc (all of which are owned by AB-INBEV) Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
  8. Yeah, I fast forwarded through the one I got after reading about the fakes and mine is real whole film. There's another version that is only the first 10 minutes of the movie, then just anti piracy message with links to get it legitimately.
  9. I've downloaded The Comedy, but have yet to watch it.
  10. It was pretty informal, just pick whichever beers you wanted to try and pour a few ounces for yourself. I had to take a break and eat some food after about 5 hours. Even with 1-2 ounce samples I still probably drank 6-8 12oz beers, and most of the beers were pretty big, up around 8%+. The Bitches Brew was decent, idk if I'd buy a bottle if I had the chance. The 8 year old Beast was delicious, some mellow alcohol, lots of spiciness and caramel to it. Rob, the host, had been in contact with Adam Avery who said he was excited to hear about it after 8 years of aging. The anniversary Black Buttes are always tasty, well worth the price if it's $16-18/bomber I also had quite a few Jolly Pumpkin beers, sadly their distributor pulled out of Kansas a couple years ago so we don't get them anymore. La Parcela was awesome, they really don't make anything bad imo though.
  11. People like to share their passions Might as well make fun of watmm for talking about electronic music... I've also heard of people known as tickers that literally make a note of every pint they drink, if they like it who's to judge? They're not harming anyone. There are people that keep track of every kind of bird they see, every meal the eat, collect pointless objects, etc. I see it as no different. I see this thread as mostly a recommendation/keep your eye out for this beer kind of thing. I guess my real feeling is if you don't like it, don't read the thread
  12. I really enjoyed it, it was the only beer that I took multiple samples of. Nice raspberry/apple/pear notes up front with really well balanced tartness that finished dry. If you like lambics/sours definitely pick it up if you have the chance.
  13. I had an epic night last night. There was an event called Robtoberfest, hosted by the owner of the best liquor store here in Wichita, Goebels Liquor. Over 400 beers, most of which you can't buy here in KS, plus beers from his personal cellar. That picture doesn't even include the fridge packed with the best beers that he introduced and passed around. Highlights included: Avery The Beast (2004 vintage). A test batch of Boulevard Brewing Co. Bourbon Barrel Quad from 2007, and their collaboration with Sierra Nevada that was only poured at SAVOR in D.C. earlier this year called Terra Incognita. I also had a few different Stone Brewing Co. Epic Verticals, Best by 11.09.12, and 10th Anniversary Ruination. Dogfish Head Bitches Brew, Ommegang Aphrodite, Deschutes Black Butte XX, XXIII, and XIV, and so many more.... I checked in to over 60 beers on untappd yesterday (add me up if you use it too) and that wasn't even all of them. It was an awesome time all around, tons of amazing beers, lots of good food, and lots of cool people!
  14. I'm hoping I can pick up some of this soon!
  15. You gotta eat a pound of hair or else the winterman won't come!
  16. I got a bad case of limplip....
  17. Milk cools off hot food ya dingus!
  18. Yeah, esters thrown off by the yeast create the banana/clove character. You can actually control the flavors via fermentation temperature. The particular strain of yeast I use for my hefeweizens puts off more clove at lower temperatures and more banana at higher temps. My gf loves the banana flavors so I don't even bother trying to control the fermentation temperature. I actually do a hefeweizen spiced w/ corriander, orange peel, and thyme that has had good reviews from my homebrew club. I'll probably submit it to a competition eventually, just have to time it properly so I can send it off as fresh as possible.
  19. Currently having a Buffalo Sweat stout infused with strawberry and cocoa from a firkin that I had the honor of tapping!
  20. Had a few of these yesterday while brewing up an IPA, very delicious. It actually just won a bronze medal at GABF over the weekend. It's from Free State Brewery, based in my home town, Lawrence, KS and was the first legal post-prohibition brewery in the state.
  21. The issue with beeradvocate/ratebeer and the likes is that they're dominated by beer nerds so unless it's a huge beer or really out there it's less likely to have a good rating. I haven't looked, but I can almost guarantee you that the highest rated stouts will be big ass imperials and RISes, which if you're not ready for, you will definitely not enjoy. Edit: I highly endorse ghosty's recommendation of Buffalo Sweat if you can get it in your area. One of my favorites!
  22. Finally managed to find a nice scwarzbier!
