  1. New version is up with a bunch of new voting options - Richard asked for a hidden 'most loved' and 'can't get into' vote on top of the public top 30. Before I shoot out an email to everybody, can WATMM'ers please test + let me know if all OK? http://user18081971.watmm.com/ 2015-07-05, @xfxf: votes now automatically save (no save button). "reset vote" is now where save button was. now supports additional dynamic polls now supports making polls private (rdj requested) two extra polls (rdj requested) - loved (10, multiselect, hidden), can't get into (10, multiselect, hidden). original poll renamed to 'my top 30' (30, single select, public). mobile and tablet specific responsiveness changed/improved, new UI for mobile navigation/popup menus added FAQ added, profile expanded on many backend/frontend improvements tracks default to random sort, instead of uploaded date. can still sort columns.
  2. a new track was just posted to the official aphex twin account - actually never mind, apparently was posted 2 days ago? how did i miss that? edit, no, 9 minutes ago. says 2 days ago on the actual page above, but 9 minutes ago on the account page. assuming was uploaded 2 days ago, only just made public
  3. hey guys, i'm after some testers for the new version, particularly around how easy it is to use. no functional playlist functionality yet but a few new bits + pieces. message me if interested in providing feedback :)
  4. A big problem is there are more than 30 amazing tracks!
  5. as an aside - if anybody here has organised parts of the soundcloud dump into their own soundcloud playlists, could you message me the link (or heck, even paste here for others)? have some new functionality i want to play with.
  6. All good - I reckon I'll add a FAQ section or something too to give more info about the whole thing. You're right, an overwhelming amount of info here to wade through. The feedback is appreciated!
  7. I asked rich about excluding tracks and the answer was no. I'm aiming on a new version of the site to go up this weekend which will have a new private vote - made some comments on this a few posts back. I think I'll leave the existing top30 vote alone and just add new polls with new vote options. Playlist voting definitely happening too (it'll pull in playlists from SoundCloud - future playlist functionality is one of the reasons I tied it to SoundCloud logins). Site already works independent of SoundCloud for the voting, except for the inbuilt player. There are alternative solutions to that but they'll shoot up hosting costs a bit (mirroring the files on s3 and playing from there).
  8. There are close to twice the amount of signed up accounts than those who have voted. Many are yet to vote!
  9. So the way I *was* working on this was to leave the current top30 the hell alone indefinitely, as the default poll that loads, and have a "other polls" option that let us experiment with alternative ideas (including playlist voting). Sounds like I should stick with that? Is the general consensus that the current top30 is working or needs further changes to work better (current ideas being allowing multiple votes, etc)?
  10. To be clear, the reset (this isn't even a thing yet, purely discussing ideas) isn't permanent as in the votes are lost - they just get saved and a new voting round starts. I'd implement appropriate weighting based on the rounds voted in. I'm personally not convinced a simple.vote like the way it is now is going to be representative once this thing gets wider exposure - hence encouraging discussing improvements Feel free to shoot down my ideas as terrible, this is why I am inviting input :) btw: I haven't even voted yet myself so I assure you I understand how non trivial picking 30 is haha
  11. Something I think I may do is implement a vote reset every two months (and have it email everybody to come again for another round) if there is enough interest. The votes all get saved on another page, but it stops tracks dominating an existing list and I could optionally do a blind vote for a round. The final top30 is made up by combining several of the rounds together. Of course I might be needlessly overcomplicating this - I'm just sure there are ways of improving this to get more interesting results
  12. Because it makes the voting far more interesting than having it blind, and I theorised that it would probably lead to more representative votes as it would encourage people to discuss between theirselves what the current high votes are. It's one thing to make an initial vote, its another to have a realization when a track you really love isn't getting attention. Note that a second different type of poll will be launched in the next few days which is not public.
  13. I'd not allow for 30 votes on one track, maybe allow 5. Comments are a good idea, been thinking a lot about that - SC's comment system leaves a lot to be decided
  14. i'm surprised you lot aren't discussing improvements that can be made to the voting system rather than just going 'ah well, that's it i guess'. the 'top30' vote was only ever intended to be the first type of vote. but the site can have other polls. i'm currently implementing a completely seperate "page" of votes (at rdj's request... taking longer than envisaged though, yay work taking up most of my time), but i can fairly easily mix the rules up a bit as i've made it much more dynamic. here are some ideas - i would love community feedback tho as I can't implement everything - * the private for-rdj-eyes-only "top tracks" vote (which i am currently implementing) * allowing multiple votes on a track - so there are 30 total votes, you can spend all 30 on one track if you want * having another top 30 that resets once a month, and records the results * allowing people to import their own soundcloud playlists of organised user18081971 tracks, and vote on the best playlists * as an alternative to the above, having watmm curate this list of 228 into 5 or 6 seperate playlists, and having a seperate vote on each of those (so a certain style of track doesn't dominate) guys, what would turn this into an awesome voting tool? this is an entirely custom platform so within reason i can implement anything.
  15. oh rad, he said he was gonna do that but I was trying to get some new vote options finished first. looks like I'm working on that today! there's been over 100 new account signups in the last 6 hours alone
  16. lol is that rich's email address? watch out for 9 million emails now ah, not his, somebody else already discovered this a few months ago: https://m.reddit.com/r/aphextwin/comments/2ubsud/hes_back_for_more_and_this_track_is_available_to/
  17. he's around, had a brief reply to a Q i had regarding the voting system approx 10 hours ago and it looks like he's removed the info/links from the account description in the last day or so too - but ya, looks like that awesome flurry of activity we had for a few weeks has stopped. glad we had that, some incredibly interesting comments/insights into his process or past. keep in mind too this has all been happening in bouts; there's been months of inactivity at times
  18. Ah, it's from the people who did Gemini Rue. I really need to play that game again now that I have an iPad i adored gemini rue. i reckon i enjoyed this one more...
  19. http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/games/technobabylon/ this was fkn amazing - absolutely solid dystopian cyberpunk future adventure game. i highly rate all for wadjet eye's games (gemini rue is also pretty amazing - sci-fi noir) but they're not very well known
  20. ya I suspect the voting will change a bit when more people know about this - right now there's about 1000 accounts signed up but only 600 or so have submitted a valid vote. there are more than 600 votes technically if I count revotes.. figure would be 5x bigger or so.
  21. was relatively easy to modify my voting scraper script to print out all those without a valid download URL - Nightmail 1 Pretend Analog Extmix 2b D14 - 26 Soahcie2 Phonge 5 7z 24 ems-alias mgroove 22 string slush 21 Gak Police 11 Phlid 2 9 Summer2 8 Glock+onion [desperate housewives mix] 3 Organ Velocity CHEETAHT7 Teac Cheetah3 Teac Asthma1 Jcj868e 2 Bradley Un 14 Cornish Spreek5b [st. 22. there are more voting options coming (just taking a bit to get it right - I don't want to release a confusing system as it will have negative onset effects to vote accuracy)
  23. There's only 527 people in the world that care about helping RDJ create an album playlist? I've had the greatest time this past year. It continues.... dude this thing has only been up for a week ;) it's going to run for months
  24. good point, i'll ask. wouldn't be too hard to exclude tracks from voting
  25. ok, some really interesting stats from one week of "top 20" voting, which i'm snapshotting here. 527 users in the system have voted. below is the top 50 or so tracks currently. looks like people's preferences hugely vary!
