  1. Having never heard of OZmotic I thought this was gonna be one of those low-key awkward label enforced collaborations but boy was I wrong. Probably an early contender for AOTY for me, this one. Probably the sunniest and most joyful he has sounded since Endless Summer and OZmotic provide an excellent glassy, jazzy counterpoint. Their recent album on Touch is worth a listen too. Kinda regret missing out on the wax now.
  2. Spinning this rn. Nice homespun organic sound, different from the stuff I've heard from her before (which is normally a bit more clubby iirc). Lots of skittery IDM hihats, tuned alien 'hang drum' style percussion ( a la Autechre's x4) and very subtle treated and autotuned mouth sounds. Somewhere between Ben Bondy and Claire Rousay. Will def investigate further.
  3. Had this one on repeat quite a lot recently. Its footwork but with floaty BoC style detuned pads all over it - shouldn't work but it does. Top quality stuff.
  4. I feel that, and still miss Rephlex. On the flip side tho, every time Rephlex would sign a new artist everyone would assume it was an AFX sockpuppet for a while. And they werent very good at hiding it when it actually was him because his style is so distinctive. I reckon if he wanted to do an anonymous release he would probably just set up a temporary imprint to do so.
  5. Really don't wanna be a negative nelly but I agree with Satans Little Helper here. I could never get into Ital Tek despite my numerous efforts over the years. It always feels like a hugely impressive surface covering a heart of nothing.

    µ-Ziq - 1977

Mesolithic Jungle is my favorite on here, it sounds so dessicated. Very much loving this album - its got the murkiness and gloom of the 2 Rephlex albums but somehow also the polish and clarity of production of his modern work. Guys on a roll.
  7. Twoism have an 8 page thread already, in an almost mirror image have a comment mocking us for being too cynical. We know the real truth: There aint no BoC and there never was
  8. Methyl Orange 2×12" I wouldnt mind a return to the moody jazz of MIRON/Budakhan, but with his more polished modern production. Just don't want any more Shobaleader One - that light poppy funk stuff just isnt my cup of tea sorry.
  9. Im on the same Clark journey as everyone else in here, Iradelphic was a glancing blow to the chest, with Playground In A Lake being the coup de grace, and the first Clark album I didn't buy. Am now checking out his stuff with bemused detachment rather than as a disappointed fan.
  10. Would it be less annoying for you if he came out on stage in jeans and a tshirt? Wearing mad garish sparkly shit is kind of in the job description, dude looks like the Cat from Red Dwarf.
  11. NTS Radio have put out a dungeon synth compilation album on their in-house record label. Various artists, from the early 90's. I am a complete philistine on the subgenre but it sounds like good stuff to me.
  12. Maybe. I have noticed that quite a lot of PAN's recent releases have been digital only. They have become a little more selective about what warrants a vinyl release, I can only assume for business reasons.
  13. Out now on Warp. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but its more of his poppy stuff so I guess if you dont like that then youre screwed. Lots of driving punky basslines, brass samples, hooks and stuff. Like the subtle robot effects they using on the vocals. Interesting his last album managed a 3 page thread, and this ones been out a week and nobody started one yet. Maybe people are losing appetite for this style. Or maybe nobody could be bothered with the long title.
  14. I think I prefer this new one for its slightly more icy atmosphere.
  15. West Mineral Ltd. Experiences Ltd / 3XL Motion Ward Soda Gong Quiet Time Tapes Lillerne Tape Club Constellation Tatsu Shelter Press Heres a bunch of my fave recent labels that are generally ambient adjacent
  16. I might be very late to the party here, but I just discovered the title track on here is basically a remix of Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi.
  17. Out now Already really enjoying it. Doing a rave inspired album is a bit of a cliche at this point but coming unexpectedly from this artist (whose usual m.o. is all ambient twinkly fantasy type stuff) it really works. First of all she's really nailed the break editing, and kept her usual fuzzy synth lushness there but in the background. And its got that Shitmat/Ceephax style cheekiness with the vocal clips/artwork just right as well.

    µ-Ziq - 1977

Excited for ambient μ-Ziq, it seems like unexplored territory. The last time he eschewed the beats was on Duntisbourne and while it was a slow burner, I ended up loving that album a lot.
  19. Really great interview, finally good to get a bit of insight into the EDM journey, and a bit of context for these albums after all these years. Can't believe its soon to come to an end. I was skeptical myself as were many others on here that he would complete a 26 album series, but here we are. Can't believe there's an unreleased Aleksi Perala collaboration! amongst other unreleased albums, utter madness..
  20. 1998 was one of the tough years to call, as well as the Railway Raver LP which is a classic, there is Buzz Caner, Goon's Cradle of History, Flyin Lo Fi, Virtual Farmer by Mike Dred/Peter Green. I went for Leila because of originality and cause Ive probably played it the most of all those records.
  21. This got a 7.7 off Pitchfork today. Ive given it one listen, I enjoyed it, its a success. Its got the usual warm groovy techno sound from his earlier Workshop stuff, but the sound design is more like the spiky sci-fi stuff on Disclosure/Scorched Erden. Hasn't blown me away on 1st listen like some of his stuff has, but think it might be a grower.
  22. Its nearly 10 years since Rephlex closed for business, and I've been on a bit of a binge recently. Instead of the normal 'whats your favourite' topic I thought I'd ask everyone what their top release of each year they were in operation. Since youre all a bunch of rankers who love ranking it shouldnt be too hard. Cause of their sporadic release schedule some of these years were incredibly tough to choose, while other years have comparatively slim pickings, either way its quite fun. 1992 - AFX - Analogue Bubblebath 3 1993 - Drexciya - 3 Molecular Enhancement 1994 - Vulva - From The Cockpit 1995 - The Gentle People - Journey EP 1996 - Cylob - Cylobian Sunset 1997 - Kiyoshi Izumi - Effect Rainbow 1998 - Leila - Like Weather 1999 - Bogdan Raczynski - Samurai Math Beats 2000 - Yee King - SuperUser 2001 - Pierre Bastien - Mechanoid 2002 - Transllusion - L.I.F.E. 2003 - The Bug - Pressure 2004 - Kerrier District - Kerrier District 2005 - AFX - Analord 2006 - Voafose - Voafose 2007 - Dopplereffekt - Calabi-Yau Space 2008 - Bochum Welt - R.O.B. 2009 - Wisp - The Shimmering Hour 2010 - DMX Krew - Wave Funk 2011 - Steinvord - Steinvord 2012 - Jodey Kendrick - Steel Erector 2013 - EOD - Volume 1
  23. https://kmos.bandcamp.com/album/workshop-32 Got high hopes for this one, his last LP on Workshop was a classic, and his other 2 are great as well. He's been quiet for a while too.
  24. https://bblisss.bandcamp.com/album/tranquil-flutter-engulf-my-heart Another new one from 3XL, bit more minimal than their usual fare. The kind of luxuriously rich perfume-scented ambient made by the likes of Malibu and Romance.
