  1. haha I was joking, although keeping source files there would be a snap. :) Git is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You definitely could keep audio there too. They are actually already working on (or have already) support for viewing 3d files online. :D What would be even cooler would be a way to pack up all your audio files as a dependency, so you could do something like $ beep install and install all the dependent wav files in your project. :D (goes off to make a repo for numerology files) EDIT: It looks like a numerology file is text based, meaning GIT would even be able to merges and diffs! :D
  2. Getting really close to finishing the synth cave. :) We got an extra ±12m2 basement room in our building that I'm converting to a little studio. I just finished a wooden floor and now I'm finishing up a large desk. Just no time to use it at the moment. :p
  3. ya. I've decided the next thing I buy will be a real sampler. I traded my 2 first gen electribes for an ESX (the sampler one), but I must say it has not really struck me as a very flexible thing. Gonna sell it to get an old Akai or something. The later ones are amazing looking. The same time I got the ESX I also snagged a yamaha qy-70 for cheap, and I like it a lot more than the ESX haha. It's a great little sequencer and I love the way it forces me into linear song creation. Working in a DAW lately just leaches out all inspiration. I think if I could work faster and have to think less about the software it would be better, but for the time being the simple functions and button interface of the qy-70 win big time.
  4. I have a Preen FM and use it all the time, but I'm afraid I don;t have much to offer in terms of theory or technique. :p Only that 2 or 3 operators at the same time seem to be the easiest to get workable sounds from. :D
  5. here's a rather impressionistic view of the basement studio space I recently acquired. I still will be building a rockwool ceiling for low end absorption and isolation from the flat right above. Probably some type of hanging broadband absorber along the back wall also. So pumped to finally have a dedicated space for music. But this old rolltop secretary cabinet is the real star :) It exactly fits the width of my keyboard synths. I also added a ikea hacked slideout desk for other gear.
  6. photosynths are awsome.
  7. awesome studio space? Do you have a generator out there or do you work directly with the sunlight?
  8. haha do you really install music software in the command line? lol. how idm. sudo mktrk -m -a "EP001"
  9. Yeah, basically this. Vocal Studies, One Word Extinguisher and Extinguished are ridiculously good IMO, but after that I only find the odd song I dig... I have some of the early S&S stuff, which I quite like too. Nothing after Apropa't though. this. I saw him and it was awful There was some drummer who literally could not even stay on point with the beat lol. Made all the worse for the fact that battles opened for him, and they are fucking insanely good musicians. Studio tracks are great though. He's just a big pussy when it comes to playing live, and seems completely unwilling to take any liberty with his music in a live context.
  10. So the first month of Daily Ambient is now complete. I have so far made 31 tracks. Not quite one each day, as it's been tough to keep up with a young kid. :) Anyways, if you like the previous things I've posted, head over and check out the new stuff! dailyambient.com
  11. fuck. I was about to buy a novation bass station, but then realized it was probably unwise as I don't get paid over the summer. :p Stupid teaching job. I might still do it... my kids will just have to eat bread and cheese for a couple of months. Daddy needs an acid box. Get back in the closet.
  12. Great tip. I do think though that without a fundamental knowledge of what is going on there simply knowing what the masters did, is not enough to really synthesize that into your own thinking. For instance I teach design at the university level, and we do several exercises where students have to analyze some existing work. This is great, but before they can effectively do this they need an understanding of the descriptive toolbox. They need the vocabulary to say "Van Gogh used complementary colors here to create emphasis and break down the figure - ground space", or "color values in the background are desaturated to give a sense of spacial depth". Without those words and concepts looking at the same works would have much less meaning. I think this is really the main thing that theory will add. An uderstanding of those words and concepts which give structure to musical works.
  13. Ya I agree. Plus it accommodates my laziness very well. :D
  14. Here are the tracks from this past week. I finally was able to get the iTunes podcast setup, so if you're into that have a look! I'm getting quite some traffic on the site too which is exciting! I've discovered the magic of Reddit haha. r/ambientmusic and r/chillmusic are gold mines you guys should checkout. I've also made some tweaks and optimizations on the site, so it should load a bit faster now. Hurrah for jsmin. :p Here's the podcast: on iTunes Day 10 | Sands Shift http://wp.me/p3yOqP-gj Day 11 | Curious Forms http://wp.me/p3yOqP-gm Day 12 | Days Moving Quickly By http://wp.me/p3yOqP-gr Day 13 | Ripples Along a Plane http://wp.me/p3yOqP-gw Day 14 | A Rush of Blood http://wp.me/p3yOqP-gB Day 15 | A Feeling of Remembrance http://wp.me/p3yOqP-gE
  15. This is probably the best place for this, but it's still a bit off topic. Anyways. I love midi that looks like this. https://www.dropbox.com/s/15en2kmwfyicgcx/Screen%20shot%202013-06-14%20at%2011.27.36%20PM.png
  16. @PSN, are you worried at all about security? I'm even a tad nervous moving stuff to the basement of my building haha.
  17. BTW archive.org has a torrent feature. If you're into that have a try and see what it does. Not sure how it works. If it adds new files to the torrent as they come in, or if you have to re-download the file again. https://archive.org/download/dailyambient-2013/dailyambient-2013_archive.torrent
  18. Sorry for not posting these on time. :p I did do them on time, I just didn't manage to also post them to Watmm. I managed to get some hardware setup for these. :) Enjoy!
