  1. He was dating Amber Tamblyn for a while. they're married Talk about trying too hard to get laid! lol i knew he was married which makes it even weirder that he looks like an old guy trying to get laid who hangs out in a shitty record store in williamsburg all the time
  2. yeah thats fucking awesome, this is actually very very similar to the stuff i've been working on for the last year, although this is a tad more minimal. really interesting to hear something like this (and it was made in 2008? i need to play some serious catchup!). thanks for finding/posting. This sounds like straight up Vl1 to me, the only difference is maybe the spatial placement, that sounds a little like the models emit stereo sound, which is something I've always thought would improve a physical model's sound.. so im very intrigued that this can all be done in Matlab(?) thats really surprising. I need to try and work with this group and their models, time to brush up on my academic sales pitch lingo.
  3. its crazy how homely david cross used to look and he like turned into a like painfully single arrested development (not the show, but the phrase) looking hipster trying to get laid really hard later in his life
  4. different mix is there a specific part I should be listening to for this? i cant tell, if its a different mix it's strange the track title would be exactly the same (doesn't seem to follow his previous naming conventions)
  5. the length is the same as the original track and so is the title, are people hearing differences in it vs the original? I feel like I am but i could be imagining it. would kill to hear anything else like this that's unreleased
  6. really nice track. so you're using Kaivo as an effect kinda (running samples through it?)
  7. oh lol, laptop speakers are a hell of a drug
  8. some of the most successful capitalists of their time took advantage of the same climate that Walt did, anyone involved in any major industry who wasn't fully blown patriotic flag waving could be easily labeled as being sympathetic to communism or being an actual communist.
  9. nice, very old school comb filtering style physmod , and sure if you want to try adding some real guitar over my stuff shoot me an email - peterjacksonitis AAAAATTTTTT geeeemale dot com Not my most expensive physically modelled VST though - That'd be Pianoteq 5, but oh my is it worth it ! Even an idiot like me can make a <30mb piano sound pretty realistic with a few un-quantisation tweaks and some tape emulation: yes you can make a piano sample library sound excellent, as you have :) BUT pianoteq really cannot be replaced with a sampler. There is a fader on the program to 'age' the piano or even turn a regular piano sound into something that almost sounds like a prepared piano with vastly different timbres for every key. Reid/Wisp has done some amazing stuff with pianoteq, not sure if he posted any on soundcloud
  10. how much CIA drug running stuff is there in narcos? its fun that finally the idea that CIA trafficked cocaine on a mass scale is no longer some bat shit conspiracy theory but now mainstream accepted truth. Kill the Messenger movie probably opened the door a bit.
  11. That's not a remix, right? Or is it? i might be wrong but i think its just a cover of something from an old bbc program intro music of the same name 'stop look listen'. there might be a sample of it in the actual song, but to call it a remix would be a bit of a stretch i think (but aren't all ae remixes)? so who knows
  12. america is doing a fantastic job on Corbyn so far, here's another treat
  13. hey guys, i don't know if you know this but in America it's already been made clear that Corbyn is a terrorist sympathizer and he shares a lot of commonalities with radical islam check out this rationally constructed headline from the the hip millennial american publication the Daily Beast a vote for corbyn is a vote for the Islamic State
  14. i wonder how they get funding for productions with a bunch of actors like that last one
  15. rob is looking quite the dapper these days i must say a bit of Clive Owen
  16. of the past 4-5 years of Autechre the tracks that feel the most perfect to me are this one and Tac Lacora. so glad Ae didn't try to collect every single rare analog synth under the sun and instead spent their time becoming some of the most interesting and emotionally compelling sound designers ever (no offense aphex)
  17. http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/lectures/cosey-fanni-tutti-visceral-sounds Post of the year flolHoooolllyyyyy shit Johnny boy must be red in the face right about now. lol why because Chris and Cosey needs money? RBMA pays people a shit load of money. A friend of mine got paid a lot more than the typical rate for a one night gig. i've hated RBMA for a long time dude, a lot longer than anyone I've known in real life being part of it. Disturbing thing is now adays in any thriving electronic music scene you will probably know several RBMA employees current or past 1-2 degrees of separation from you, and i just think its really fucking weird, creepy and sets a very bad precedent. so far Arca is the only big electronic act to speak against the idea of an energy drink marketing PR operation being taken seriously int the electronic music community, its just a matter of time before other smart people start calling out how blatantly fucking stupid it is. looking forward to that time it's actually gotten to the point now after seeing how much damage they've done to people's honesty that a series of investigative reports is in order about how RBMA actually started, what the intentions were, internal memos, shit like that. im determined to blow the lid off these assholes.
  18. it's a corporate attempt to insert an energy drink brand into underground culture for no other reason than to sell energy drinks and increase brand awareness. For someone who is a fan of industrial music/throbbing gristle you should automatically understand why this type of corporate bullshit is bad, and ultimately not good for the health of a scene. The dishonesty part comes in when people seem to have a hard time facing the reality of the disingenuous intentions of corporations and instead say shit like 'whats wrong with it man they're giving artists a voice' 'well at least they pay people' 'they have good people working for them' 'they have good taste in electronic music' (makes me vom). a Red bull radio host cunt in [unnamed bigger local city] literally tried to steal energy from from a very vital dark electronic circle out in [unnamed smaller local city] (ingratiating himself, buddying up with djs, acting like bros, etc, and then vanishing) basically his crew tried to recreate something with a similar but dumber more watered down vibe in [unnamed bigger local city] (and the ticket prices are twice the price). Problem is since its 'successful' just like standup comedians who steal other people's material no one gives a fuck that its a ripoff of another smaller cooler collective. Red Bull has taught him well edit: sorry redacted the cities because the piece of shit probably reads watmm hey daniel, i liked your AE reviews better than r+7
  19. i can see why artists don't like coming to a place like watmm where they might actually see brutally honest (as well as knowledgeable) opinions about their work. artists are very shielded these days in real life, everyone pats everyone on the back and acts like bros. phony as shit, but thats the way it is. we're still not even at a basic honesty level with how ridiculous it is that Red bull Music academy even exists, people still bizarrely defend it all the time must be extra intense though to be an artist watmm has painted a target on the back of , and we dont have to mention names (of people who may have had brazilian style ass implants). there are just those certain electronic musicians who get fucking hammered over here
  20. anybody ever see his horrid Showtime sketch comedy show from like 2008? It seriously seemed like something that was produced for Def comedy jam in 1998, shelved and and somehow rediscovered but it wasn't, it was actually made in 2008. One of the most extreme comedy failures i've seen in the last decade. IT was like if someone thought some of the shittiest Mad TV sketches would be amazing if they peppered them with a bunch of 'fucks'
  21. dont want to steer the thread into too much of a critical direction, but im curious to understand this statement. At first those kaoss edge tracks gave me the feeling you expressed above and 'i bite through it' felt like an artist retreading something almost too obviously and not adding too much to it. In a way i give more of a pass to R+7 because while i didn't like that album i still felt it was really different from what he had done before, this feels like Daniel smackdab in the middle of current electronic music lexicon instead of very ahead of the curve. So maybe you mean it in the sense that its an artist who has refined a particular style (which i would agree with). Its only one track though. prob too early to judge (last post)
  22. Rayban knocked it outta the goddam park more cute physical modeling at 23:05 still loving those kaossedge tracks more than anything else new of his i've heard, hopefully there is some kind of side release of stuff like that at some point
  23. i heard his NIN and recent live stuff has been really cool. The only time I saw him was out here in san francisco it seemed like he was playing back an already arranged ableton session of seemingly unmodified tracks from his Rifts era + old school 90s cgi demonstration video stuff (and some of the video content on the eccojams DVD). I'm a bit picky when it comes to experimental/ambient shows though, i always feel that something semi improvised or conceptual like a piece that fills an entire 30 minutes is the best way to present music likes his, but then again im old and out of touch. There was a poster here who said they used to see him play all the time with just a synth and some looper pedals (maybe they already posted in this thread?) that sounds really cool.
  24. its true that their philosophy was handed a whole new set of parameters but im willing to look past it
