  1. "Bears are so cute, let's give them a ladder and then get the hell out of there before they tear us to shreds."
  2. I'm not minimizing anything, but again we wouldn't be having this discussion if the tracks hadn't been good enough to grab everyone's attention first. Which is what we were discussing right: how did it catch on? The concept only works because the music is there to carry it, not vice versa.
  3. All this about how "interesting", "clever", "well marketed" they are makes you guys sound like you think there's some evil masterplan behind them, or like you're desperate to rationalize the fact that you like their music. IMO they pulled it off by making great tunes, simple as that.
  4. Human After All had some strong tracks but overall it was rushed and all too repetitive. Similar to some of Bangalter's Roulé tracks in a way, but you'd have expected a bit more work put into an actual Daft Punk full album. And I sort of blame it for contributing to the trend of dirty rocking "electro" that's so overdone now. But that era of Daft Punk did yield Electroma, which even though it doesn't feature any of their music, was a pretty neat film. I liked the Tron soundtrack too and possibly listened to it more than HAA. Alive 2007 was always going to reach a much wider audience, it's like a mixed greatest hits compilation into which they snuck a few unpopular tracks. I think a lot of work went into the new album, judging by the sheer length of it, the time it took them to record it and the way it's being promoted... I have pretty high hopes actually.

  6. I liked the 15 sec thing more than that. I'm thinking that Soundcloud account isn't as official as it tries to look either, or this should have caused a bit more of a stir.
  7. Got my CDs from Bleep in the mail today, after seeing them on the shelves of a local shop last Friday. At least I paid less than what that record store was asking.
  8. So for our french connections here, did they air anything new today on Canal+?
  9. I don't see what's so lame about what sounds like a clip of Nile Rodgers jamming over a Daft Punk track, in fact I would be pretty stoked for an entire album of that stuff. I don't assume he will feature on all of the tracks though. But I know Giorgio Moroder said a long time ago that he also recorded something for them, so I'm expecting a real disco album.
  10. SL-1200MK2 (via a cheapish Pro-Ject phono stage), NAD C 515BEE CD player, and the analog output of my onboard soundcard -> NAD C 325BEE integrated amp -> Focal Chorus 807V bookshelf speakers I'm pretty satisfied with this, only upgrades I'd like would be a better room if I get the chance. And then some nice floor standing speakers to extend the bass range once I have the room.
  11. I got 26/50 ("above average") on the questionnaire from the OP and I thought that was most likely due to shyness and introversion rather than other autistic traits. For the Aspie-quiz: Good to know I have no talents be they Aspie or Neurotypical. I did think the first part of the Aspie-quiz where you have to guess what people are feeling/thinking based on their eyes only was frustratingly difficult. But it doesn't seem to be included in the debriefing so I don't know how I did on that.
  12. I'm digging it too, there's enough tracks that on the surface are deceptively simple or groovy to keep me coming back, and that makes me sit through the more random stuff as well. And in terms of sheer sound it's probably the best thing they've done, Confield era is almost starting to sound dated compared to this.
  13. For some reason yesterday I suddenly remembered the Roswell Return ambient/dub techno project from 2009 which I'd all but forgotten about. Just finished playing IFTODEX C0001 and am now on Probe #5, taken together I think that's all the tracks he's ever done, unless it was an alias.
  14. Worst thing about Exai is when you can't stop the cum coming out of penis, or when penis flips inside of your body like a sock.
  15. OK, price for the CD + shipping from Bleep was fair enough this time that I went that route. Downloading now. Hope my CD doesn't arrive looking like a truck ran over it again.
  16. why do you feel the need to listen to it on an physical media ? chances are it was created on a computer so audio files are its more original form. it's like waiting for some analogically recorded jazz album to appear in mp3s and ignore the original recording on a vinyl. In a nutshell: I have this thing about not paying for files, and I try not to "steal" music anymore these days, that's really all it is.
  17. I was feeling surprisingly meh about a new Autechre album, and won't be hearing it until I can get a physical copy anyway, but now I dusted off Move Of Ten again and fuck, so stoked for this album.
  18. Got it yesterday too, easily the most exciting game I've seen this year. I'm not even really a gamer anymore but this will get me hooked I reckon.
  19. Buddy Miles, don't know that much of his stuff but he gelled with Jimi like no other. He's a huge part of why Band Of Gypsys is my favorite Hendrix record. Brant Bjork, too, dude has the Midas touch.
  20. Nice topic bump. Probably my favourite album to come out of the whole shoegazing thing, but second the comments on not being in the mood to listen to it that often. Blue Skied An' Clear destroys me. Might have to give the later Talk Talk stuff a listen based on some of the replies here.
