Hadn't heard this before, but I sure know both of the Balil and Atypic samples. What I find interesting is that I had heard something from a Lone podcast that sampled Otaku as well as the same string sample that comes in around 2:30 on this track. So no word on those Balil and Atypic sets eh? Would like to hear the new material of course, but as long as that material will be released eventually, then I am much more interested in hearing if they arranged their older tracks differently. I noticed a couple of other performers that night have their sets up on Soundcloud. Perhaps their sets go back and forth between old and new, unlike their other set that Mr. Spencer shared with us? If so, maybe their older tracks could be cut out as standalones?

WHAT!? I don't....I don't even. Does this have anything to do with the witheld Part 2 of that recent recording!? I mean Balil getting mixed into Virtual...come on and Psil-Cosyin! I'm speechless....after all this time they are FINALLY doing something with Balil & Atypic. Did someone win the lottery and commission this to happen? I would love to hear what they do that night, BUT if it's material that will be released later on then I would rather WAIT for the real deal! Best damn music news I have heard in a long time!

Someone was kind enough to post the entire work Plaid did for the Strata series a couple of years back. [youtubehd]ZwJiO_Iro38[/youtubehd] Those choir pads and the strings in the centerpiece portion absolutely slay me, so fucking beautiful.

Snow White Lies remix definitely showcases Ed's drum programming skills. Some of the best 808 programming I have ever heard. Way more intricate than anything they have done recently. Think it's time they dusted off that 808 and got back to the "basics."

There were a couple of girls at that show (ND 501) who were introduced to Andy and then went to the back to meet Ed as they all came back out later. I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but I said something to my girlfriend to the extent of I bet those 2 girls couldn't even name a Plaid song. They looked like they were there just for attention.

I was hoping this was one of the tracks to make it on Scintilli. I can see how it never did as it would have been out of place. Let's hope it shows up somewhere down the line when they get to making some of that "dance-floor" oriented stuff that was mentioned in a recent interview. Might be a good chance to bring back their old pseudonyms. All they need to do then is dust off/fix their old kit and have a good go at it. I wonder about that though. I've been to 5 (soon to be 6) Plaid shows in the 2000s, and they haven't gone that far back in their catalog during each respective time. Not too mention all of the youtube + slsk uploads over the years. It was just recently Parasight came out. No doubt they played some of this older material before in the 90s (when it was new), but compared to how many times I've heard New Family live or stuff off Spokes/Greedy Baby it's really no comparison. I would love for them to give some attention to that older catalog along with the newer stuff. Their discography is quite large.

I was talking about Reishi. :] I love that track. They don't seem to play there older material live. Parasight is the only tune (that I know of) from their earlier catalog to finally make an appearance. But now that you mention it...I would be very interested in Ed/Andy taking a new spin on Virtual for their live shows.

Virtual Hmmm is my favorite version of Virtual and Reishi is easily one of their best tracks. A track like that NEEDS to be played out live. I wonder if they have ever played that one out? How about a nice surprise tomorrow? I can only hope.

Just post videos of their old songs. If Plaid decides to hammer out Parasight or some other oldie that they never [rarely] play live then get footage of that one. Also, I am quite pleased to here about the idea of writing more dance oriented tracks.

Have they played Parasight yet this recent go around? I was lucky enough to hear The Melody Remix and a different variant of their Scorpio Remix last time around in 2008. Hopefully they have a few surprises in store for us.

Interesting M meets Plaid interview. I can't say that I'm surprised by any of what they have said, but unfortunately I am still stuck in the past with their sounds. Of course I've liked much of their material since they have crossed over into a dominant digital environment, but it's not quite the same. From recent memory both "Host" and "The Melody Remix" are on the opposite side of the spectrum. No doubt they are burnt out from using the same drum machines/synths all these years, but I think they can still give us a lot more to appreciate with them. Sometimes less is more. They are still able to easily give me goosebumps from their melodies (Strata 3), but it's that old material I've heard hundreds of times that is still able to consistently do it. I'm stilling waiting for Scintilli in the post, so no expressions yet, but did they use their 808 or 606 on the album? Ed and Andy's drum-programming is severely underrated in the community IMO.

This is the track they have played live the last two times they came to Chicago (all three were different variations). I really thought this was going to be one of the tracks that made it onto Scintilli considering how often it pops up in their live shows. Definitely reminds me of Cold from Peel Sessions, but at the same time it's quite Trancey. I would say this is the closest they have come to Trance since Parasight.

How could I have missed these uploads!? 4:57 into video two is where it is at, just absolutely amazing! Someone finally got a recording of Parasight live other than that minute snippet from last year. As much as I want new stuff from Ed and Andy as Plaid, I cannot deny how much I would love some new Balil/Atypic/Tura/Close,Up,Over material; be it all original or reworkings of older material. Going to be playing this one A LOT!

First off - thank you Boredroom, you sir are the best and I hope you are able to locate some more Black Dog/Balil material that is stashed away. As for the Jam Session itself, yes the quality is bad and could obviously use some mastering, but there are quite a few songs on here that are absolutely fantastic and should have been released if it was at all possible. The notion that this is something that you would listen to once or twice is kind of overblown. Yes, there are some filler tracks in there, such as the 808/MC-202 workouts by Ed on Side B, but tracks like Merck (mix 3) and Rosery Pilots (Mix 2) are absolutely brilliant. I myself would definitely pay for material like this and other unreleased stuff if that were ever a possibility. Coming from someone who has Balil tracks flooding my top 10 songs of all time, I am extremely grateful for having the opportunity to finally hear some of these illusive tracks. Thank you again!
