  1. Oversteps = Tangerine Dream + Vangelis + Gerald Donald = Epic.
  2. I recommend the Tuss + Analord releases if you've yet to get into vinyl. Autechre albums as well are neat. I love my copy of LP5 - sped up at 45RPM it sounds pretty similar to Aphex at times.
  3. This is pathetic But understandable. edit: strangest review I've ever read besides Robert Chris?Das?asd's shitty efforts. Are the Wire always like that? Yes, I've always found The Wire's reviews to be arty to say the least. Their interview with Autechre after the release of Quaristice was a bizarre read with extracts of real interview interspersed with strange vocab cluster-fucks. I believe the promo is the real album, or at least very close (there may be a few tweaks in the real tracks that may not be present in the promo, who knows?), but to ease the blow for you The Wire have fucked up before. You may remember them playing tracks off Quaristice on their internet radio show, before the album was released, without Warp's permission.
  4. I got that vibe too. Awesome thing is I'm attending a Gamelan workshop 8 days after the album's release. So pumped for that. March is gonna be one hell of a month.
  5. Wow, cheers for posting the link! That totally removes my thinking of this being an Ae-made fake, which is obviously a shame (two Ae albums released within a couple of months would've been killer!) but I'm not majorly disappointed... at least not yet. My thoughts: -I'm leaving the leaked file to rust until the release date. I've only heard it once all the way through. -This album is a MASSIVE change in direction for Autechre. I wouldn't say much of it is like their back catalogue at all, apart from perhaps maybe some of the FM synthesis being similar to LP5/EP7 stuff for obvious reasons. -known(1) is a really nice track and I don't get all the hate whatsoever... -Ae don't need to push the boundaries or do anything like that in my opinion, just make the music that they want to make. -That one time I heard it, my inital reaction was "whoa, this is weird but I like it" then it started to drag on a tad until the point I barely noticed it was there playing. I don't think I'm going to touch any Autechre releases between now and the 22nd or whenever the WAVs come out. I hope it'll make me think more of Oversteps when its released. Wish me luck.
  6. Join the Elektron Users forum and browse through the uploaded files.
  7. They'd only have to make some recordings of basic Max patches or even ready-made early demos of tracks...
  8. Seconded. I'm thinking this way more and more every hour. I only listened to the album once though and said to myself to leave it until the proper release - I don't want some of the confusion that some guys have here.... I'll be honest I don't think Ae would get one of those, they'd just use Max. Someone's already made a Max For Live patch which replicates the really cool turn-your-MachineDrum-into-a-melodic-synth mode. And unfortunately I'm not getting one :( I have no monies after buying the special edition Oversteps
  9. And for that time it proved to be REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING.
  10. Can Bleep please tell us in some way whether this is fake or not. I'm losing my patience. :P
  11. First three tracks + See On See + Treale + D-Sho Qub (or whatever) = Awesome. The rest gets a bit samey. Hopefully the wavs + vinyl + poster + omfg new package in the mail will make the listening experience on the proper release better. I prefer what I heard in the leak over Quaristice though.
  12. Just a thought: Massive lols if this is gonna the new Plaid album sent out in these promos and the Plaid promos pressed up were copies of Oversteps :P
  13. That fade in to See on See is just weird though. Doesn't sound right at all.
  14. I removed the extra ilanders in there as well. may not be exact cuts. total length 69min 24sec. It is real. Right, I don't think my download completed then. The file I have here is an m4a and comes in at 63:38.
  15. Indeed, it's fucked up but it's a damn cool sounding album so far. I wouldn't be too surprised if this was a fake by either Ae or some of their mates though. Sean's said in interviews that they have "made fakes" and put stuff out on the web without people grabbing it....
  16. Guys, I really hate to tell you this but I think this leak is either fake or incomplete. My guess is incomplete, though if this is real this album is such a change in direction for Ae. From my calculations which were posted in the orginal Oversteps thread, the album Bleep are putting out digitally is going to be anywhere between 66:45 to 68 minutes in length. This leak comes to 63:38 with Ilanders repeated, so the leak's version of the album should be under 60 minutes in length. In that case, either something's missing or it's a fake I want to believe. This is awesome so far. Perhaps Ae have put their own faek out?
  17. An album of Drane2 = Epic win. An album of Perlence Subrange whatever it is = Oh GOD no.
  18. Isn't the 23rd a US release date while the 22nd is UK/EU/whatever
  19. Um, yeah... wtf? Some of the sounds in those tracks really reminded me of OPSHIC3. Apologies if I'm wrong... perhaps some one is faking your fakes? Seconded that the lack of appearance of a London date is a little bit odd... not sure if it's a letdown or the premise of something coming alongside the date announcement...
  20. Whoever's behind this second fake (or whatever it is) knows what they're doing. Metric modulation in the very first track is pretty well done, a signature Autechre technique and hard to do as well as Ae get it. EDIT: Hmmm.... Treale and Krylon sound strangely like some of gl0tch's work...
  21. holy FUCKING SHIT i swear i'm just going to go back and listen to lady gaga and start dancing pointlessly in the hope that my being a low-iq heathen will offset at least 10 of you acousmatic scene fucks. THERE IS NO ACOUSMATIC SCENE. THERE ARE ONLY SUPPORT GROUPS! Dude, chill.
  22. Short answer: Yes. 24 bit > 16 bit. Long answer: In digital audio storage, you have two key "parameters" - the sampling rate and the quantization depth. The sampling rate defines how often a new level/"voltage"/wave displacement is output and is measured in Hertz, while the quantization depth defines by how much levels are rounded. This is because if you have a binary string of so many bits (i.e. 8bits = 1 byte), that string can only store so many different numbers or in this case levels. Therefore, the more bits you have, the longer the string, the more numbers it can store, so the less something has to be rounded - the levels are more precise. Hopefully that makes sense. It isn't a great explanation but it should get you there.
